Bill does out-do everybody because hes the one playing some really harmonic jazz licks over a blues. Its not just blues hes playing, its jazz. Its hard for the other to compare to his playing except Marian cause shes a bad ass as well. All have contrasting ways of playing though so comparing is very difficult.
With Patrice Rushen? I knew she could play and did play jazz, but I didn't not expect to hear that name. You guys know she was on the radio back in the day? THE RADIO!!! Why can't we have that now?
Straight no chaser from Newport (58 or 59?) with Miles Davis. Comes to mind immediately, Bill plays his tail off on the blues, even if Miles did get Wynton Kelly to play on Freddie Freeloader in the studio.
@kcmccloskey are you arguing that it was fairly common? Because it wasn't. At least in my collection (65+ albums) I don't have a single blues chorus played by Bill... maybe that's not very authoritative. :P
This is a great gathering, and I think Bill really shows his original style in his solo versus the similar swing styles of the other three. Great clip!
This is just superb :D fantastic!. I'm still new to learning jazz. I just know what I like, but yeah I definitely agree - its interesting you can clearly hear Bill's style stand out from the rest. The other three seem to have a more 'traditional' swing sort of sound (which i *love* - dont get me wrong) but yeah Bill's got that unique edge - unmistakable.

Also, Bill Evans. Dig that look. I'm used to the old, black and white with neat, slicked back hair Bill Evans lol

nope, just that it's definitely happened, and that he smokes it (with serious blues feeling) when it has.

I'm an admirer of Evans' earlier work, but McPartland is easily the best here.
