  • Great playing, at this moment I'm learning your great arrangment from the book you brought out a few years ago ,its the first time Iv'e heard you play .

    all the best

  • @telios96

thanks. but i'm not Spencer Doidge. but he does have a youtube channel at "gjfanatique". he also replied to this video (see below)

  • What memory leak? I didn't notice anything. Looked and sounded great to me.

  • @philipglaser

    thanks. It's at 2:50.

Yours is the first comment in 8 months on this one. so double thanks

  • Questionb for you: which of these was easiest for you to learn? I'm struggling with Maple Leaf, but I have it smooth and sweet. I'll have it up to tempo soon. I'm wondering which I might try next and... welll...I'd like to do one in less than a year next time.

  • probably this one or 'heliotrope' was easiest. 'sunflower slow drag' is hard. 'gladiolus' which i never made it through is harder still.

  • Thanks so much for your reply. Heliotrope is on the agenda, now, for me to abuse it with my steel string OOO-18. -Mick

  • Sweet. You're good, dude. You make me proud of the book. Your guitar sounds beautiful. It's nice to hear these on steel. I did them on nylon.

  • Thanks a lot! I'm proud of your comments. The book is great. Have you published more?

  • Fingerpicking Ellington, but they discontinued that. Seems they didn't like paying royalties to anyone, least of all me.

  • You SHOULD be proud of that book. It's a helluva an accomplishment. I would like to see "Fingerpicking Jelly Roll Morton" or Fats Waller, but I guess you're out of that business, now. A shame.

  • That's an interesting idea. If I could get a flat fee from a publisher, I would do it. The way I saw it work, the publishers have to be looking for something to fill a slot in their catalog, then they hire somebody to write it. A friend advised me to take a flat fee, and that worked. When I took royalties instead on another book, they cheated me, and I never got diddly. Once I offered a major house another book. They said no, then did the same book themselves two years later.

  • I love Fats Waller's tunes, but I find them all hard to play. He's such fun to watch in the videos we have, especially The Joint Is Jumpin'!

  • Wow! Great job on a great guitar!! you can't beat the sound of that mahogany!

  • Oh no! Strike that! Mistake! I thought I was replying on my own page. Sorry about that!

  • 5/5 and fav

  • This sounds great on guitar and you do an excellent job! Also, your tempo is exactly the same as mine on piano!

  • thanks, man

  • muito bom

  • Pleasant Moments is my favourite Joplin waltz and you did a great job bringing what that waltz was about to us!

  • thanks. it is a nice piece.

  • good job.

  • You are incredibly adept at capturing the essential "lilt" of Joplin in your guitar playing that many piano players seem to struggle with.

  • First comment in nearly a year on this one. Thanks! I appreciate it.

  • but why it must be mahagoni?

  • Probably because he enjoys the tonal qualities of mahogany.

  • Wonderful timing and phrasing.

  • I just discovered your guitar solos on You Tube, and I am deeply impressed. Classical, popular, jazz and ragtime - an impressive body of work. Congratulations on achieving this, and thanks for sharing it with an obviously appreciative audience.

  • I'm a huge fan of your playing. just brilliant!

  • thanks!

  • soulful

  • Just one look to say: Let other people playing for once! And come dance this Rag with me! Thanks, Tony!

    Kisses from Rio.

  • as always, one more great performance. was wondering if there were any other instruments you played. I play acoustic 6 string for the most part.. But I also have a 12 string, mandolin, acoustic bass, dobro and also a banjo..lol still working on that one. anyway, let us know!

  • nah, just guitar. like to get a 12 string and an 88-key korg and try to re-learn some piano at some point

  • I still have my piano.. but my ex-wife got the korg in the divorce.. i miss it. I say all of us that subscribe to you should send you a few dollars each.. that should cover the price of a 12 string and a keyboard.. who knows. you might post a PO box and see what happens..call it the starving musicians fund

  • i'd like to say i'm a struggling artist, but one look at my waistline and people would know i must have a comfortable day job. lol

  • we have alot in common music wise ....you play alot of spanish style guitar , yet neglect bach , I bet you could do a great job on bach couterpoint .

  • thanks, but not true. i've got 2 bach things up there already and i'm working on more now. cheers
