Great playing, at this moment I'm learning your great arrangment from the book you brought out a few years ago ,its the first time Iv'e heard you play .
Questionb for you: which of these was easiest for you to learn? I'm struggling with Maple Leaf, but I have it smooth and sweet. I'll have it up to tempo soon. I'm wondering which I might try next and... welll...I'd like to do one in less than a year next time.
You SHOULD be proud of that book. It's a helluva an accomplishment. I would like to see "Fingerpicking Jelly Roll Morton" or Fats Waller, but I guess you're out of that business, now. A shame.
That's an interesting idea. If I could get a flat fee from a publisher, I would do it. The way I saw it work, the publishers have to be looking for something to fill a slot in their catalog, then they hire somebody to write it. A friend advised me to take a flat fee, and that worked. When I took royalties instead on another book, they cheated me, and I never got diddly. Once I offered a major house another book. They said no, then did the same book themselves two years later.
I just discovered your guitar solos on You Tube, and I am deeply impressed. Classical, popular, jazz and ragtime - an impressive body of work. Congratulations on achieving this, and thanks for sharing it with an obviously appreciative audience.

as always, one more great performance. was wondering if there were any other instruments you played. I play acoustic 6 string for the most part.. But I also have a 12 string, mandolin, acoustic bass, dobro and also a banjo..lol still working on that one. anyway, let us know!
I still have my piano.. but my ex-wife got the korg in the divorce.. i miss it. I say all of us that subscribe to you should send you a few dollars each.. that should cover the price of a 12 string and a keyboard.. who knows. you might post a PO box and see what happens..call it the starving musicians fund
Dear Tony,My dad and my sis play classic and flamenco guitar. So at my home you're the no 1 favorites performer and I'm the second. Actually 3rd cause I love your playing even more. You're a great inspiration.
Ok, Ok, so that does it. Must start lessons today. I really enjoy your posts and videos, thanks for the share, and the way you video, makes it easy for me to watch the fingers.

probably this one or 'heliotrope' was easiest. 'sunflower slow drag' is hard. 'gladiolus' which i never made it through is harder still.
troubleclef 1 year ago
Thanks so much for your reply. Heliotrope is on the agenda, now, for me to abuse it with my steel string OOO-18. -Mick

Sweet. You're good, dude. You make me proud of the book. Your guitar sounds beautiful. It's nice to hear these on steel. I did them on nylon.

Fingerpicking Ellington, but they discontinued that. Seems they didn't like paying royalties to anyone, least of all me.

I love Fats Waller's tunes, but I find them all hard to play. He's such fun to watch in the videos we have, especially The Joint Is Jumpin'!

You are incredibly adept at capturing the essential "lilt" of Joplin in your guitar playing that many piano players seem to struggle with.

but why it must be mahagoni?
kavePizzaHunter 3 years ago
Probably because he enjoys the tonal qualities of mahogany.
