I also think it's genius, but that's no reason for me to like that crappy synthesizer sound... Check out the related video "Fingertips (Parts 1 & 2 Live)", wouldn't you agree that the sound of real horns is much more pleasing?
@SammyJoeH HANG IN THERE SAMMY, IT WAS THE SAME WITH STEVIE WONDER AT HIS TENDER AGE WHEN HE STARTED SINGING. THEY HAD TO BERRY GORDY AND PAUL TRIED HARD TO FIND THE RIGHT MUSIC FOR A PRETEEN TO TEENAGER BECAUSE OF HIS VOICE AND THE CORRECT MATERIAL.
Stevie Stevie Stevie... Never a dull moment. They say he's always had a crazy sense of humor even durng his days as a child at Motown. Bet Mike and his brothers woulda got a kick out of this had they been there.
Because he was also a child star and had his firt hit with Fingertips when he was 13. The joke is that Motown wanted to can him when his voice started changing. He used to give a little comedic speech before doing this. It's only one little part of the show to have fun.
And yes, I agree with Larry here.. he can do whatever he likes.
He has some effect over his microphone doing this just for this song, because he had a high voice when he was little and this was his first num. 1 single when he was 13!
did i hear the ''S'' word at 6:16? :o

I know most of you won't believe it but, Stevie IS NOT using a Harmonizer!!
I saw him at Madison Sq Garden do this not only on stage but also back stage after the show WITHOUT A MICROPHONE!!
This man is one of the most prolific vocalist (and all around musician) of our time. His hearing abilities are phenomenal, and yes "he is a genius"!!

Oh god that ending was hilarious. "MY VOICE IS CHANGING! ITS GONNA RUIN MY WHOLE CAREER!"
I think using a harmonizer to sing Fingertips was a great idea. Even if it is a little squeaky

nellerdrengen01 3 years ago
the song is in C minor
thankgodjohn 3 years ago
yeah Eb major and Cm are enharmonically equivalent, but the songs chord's are all Cm so I guess he was using a C chromatic
