Not even mentioned the RMS Titanic. Shame on you. It did sink on it's Madien voyage, but that's what makes it history. It's a story that will live on for hundreds of years as of next year 2012 it will be it's 100 anniversary and we all remember what happened.
@megacurtis09 Errrrr... NOT, it sunk on it's maiden voyage. Pretty epic fail in the seafaring world. Most memorable and loved though, for the same reason!
Yep- I'm afraid as a patriotic Englishman even I have to agree that the Normandie was the finest liner ever to put to sea. Placed side by side, the Queen Mary might have belonged to a different era- even though she was the later ship!! She only needed 2 stacks and her machinery was revolutionary, the same system being adopted some 30yrs later by ss canberra. Queen Mary was slightly faster but burned more fuel. Although Q M was beatiful in her own way- Normandie was best - I have to be honests
@scabycat Yes it's a tricky one. Certainly the lines of the Normandie are beaitiful and uncluttered. However, on the Normandie, you always had to be on "best behaviour" -- it was not terribly friendly. Although the QM was maybe less flashy, it was a lot more cosy and warm. If you held a gun to my head and I had to choose a week on one? Probably the Normandie provided they included a set of Savile Row cllothes !
I absolutely agree with your list. When you listed the Queen Mary as No. 2, I knew No. 1 had to be the one and only Normandie. Sadly, there will never be a ship like her again. The only solace that we can take from the situation is that much of the beautiful artwork was removed before the ill-fated attempt to turn her into a troop ship.
The R.M.S Titanoc is the best once, and wats that anoying jazz son bits always in this video, that video, etc, etc.
