  • Can someone please tell me why he wears a indian flag pin?

  • Shame he never got to make that documentary.

  • Please tell me what Hitchens said at 4:45, I can't hear it.

  • The world will miss you Hitch

  • RIP Hitch

  • In order to rip you have to grip...OMFG That is the funniest fucking thing I've heard in weeks!

  • Sagan. Hitchens, soon. And yet Hawking is still alive. wtf.

    Really hope Hitchens pulls through.

  • I'm glad Hitchens is still with us, I hope we get an update on his condition, haven't heard from him in a few months, wish him all the best! I lost my dad to cancer 2 months ago and it sucks, I hope we have Hitchens write and say a bit more, and fight on!

  • @ViperRob42 His cancer has metastasized to the rest of his body. He doesn't look good and he won't be with us for too much longer.

Depressing news. Literally for the past two weeks I have done nothing but read Hitchens and listen to Hitchen's debates and audiobooks and reflect upon the impact that this man has made in our lives.

  • Maybe someone will still make that documentary. I wish he had started to live a healthier life sooner.

  • great interview. excellent interviewer and fantastic subject. get well soon Mr Hitchens xxx

  • I love Canada ,, wish to visit it someday

  • As a Scot, I've never had the chance to see this show. This interviewer actually listens to his guest and allows him time to answer. This gets the best out of the interviewee and makes for a flowing conversational style. It's like watching a young Parkinson. A good thing.

Seeing as the guest was Hitch, it worked very well. :-)

  • I agree with the philosophy of IT. I have difficulty following their orders because of moral weakness.

  • lock up lawyers not soldiers!

  • I would imagine that most people watching the Hitch are atheists, but the clever advertisers have Christian Dating adverts popping up...

  • Two men at the top of their game...

  • Strombo is my favourite interviewer hands down

  • it's sad to think that the movie he was talking about near the end will most likely never get made :(

  • @spp41 What? Oh, No!!! Do you know why?

  • @Trund27 he's got cancer, it's unsure how long he's going to live.

  • @spp41 Oh, no.....Damn. Thanks for the info

  • Torture: All pain, no gain.

Also, "terrorists" will be more inclined to fight to the death, possibly killing extra US soldiers.

  • Did he make the movie??

  • This guy is so good at fucking interviews.

  • @lilsm555 George is moneyy check his channel CBCtheHour

  • I have to lol at how everyone is saying that they are amazed with George. This is how things are done in Canada, and the rest of the world. Its the US that has lost its journalistic integrity...

  • @sigmayacht Amen bro! I feel sorry for people that think Fox News or MSNBC is the way it is anywhere else in the world

  • I guess 8christians don't like this.

  • Wish that documentary had been made

  • @MikeEmery9 It was made, it's called Collision.

  • @LowleyUK I don't think that's the same thing

  • @MikeEmery9 Yeh you may be right actually.

  • Comment removed

  • like other comentors here, every time I run across a clip with this interviewer Im deeply impressed with his lucidity and attention. He seems to really be listening and be interested as opposed to other interviewers which often seem as though they are simply reading off questions and then preparing for the next question or setting up a joke while being oblivious to what the interviewee is saying.

and yes...I want to see this documentary

  • I hope a documentary like that really happens...

  • anyone know if this documentary is really happening? If so when's it coming out?

  • It is quite foreshadowing how they talk about Hitchens smkoing habits and how bad it is. Sad....

  • AtheistMediaBlog, at first I thought you misspelled George Stephanopoulos' name. Then I realized that this was not an ABC interview. Boy, do I feel dumb.

  • I WANT TO SEE THIS DOCUMENTARY

  • I like the interviewer he asks the right questions unlike some American hosts such as Bill O'Reilly.

  • Yes I am constantly impressed with this interviewer, he deserves more limelight, including the UK.

  • Haha! Brilliant Maher-diss at the end!

  • @LiBlub1 haha, no kidding. It's true too.

  • That exchange about the waxing was brilliant!

  • this guy is a genius

  • @LetJimiT8keOver Yeah major let down. Major bummer. Not only the documentary being called off, but the reason likely behind it.

  • @ProRanting is it really called off?

  • So i'm guessing the God is Not Great Documentary has been called off?

  • great interview. i'll have to look out for mr stroumboul... i'll have to look out for george.

  • Yes, the interview was great, and the interviewer was excellent. It goes to show just what intellect Hitchens has when he is allowed to say all that he can say.

  • excellent interviewer. he asks intelligence questions, sometimes with humour, and doesn't interrupt. the anglo-american media needs more of this.

  • ohh shnap, i wanna see the new christopher hitchens doco! fuck yea, that'd be awesome.

  • Fantastic! Gotta love this guy. Great interviewer, too. I hope he gets better and IS able to make his documentary. What a great service he's being and giving to all man-kind (oops, human-kind).

  • God is now great, but Christopher Hitchens is!!!

  • Hitch, you must do ONLY ONE THING for us!... plz live long enough to make a God is not Great movie!... =3

...and live another 40 years just to be safe = )

  • hitchens is the man, i love how he can be serious get his point across, and still joke around.

I like interviews like this where they actually talk to him, not like news channels where he brings facts and what people have said to back him.. and the interviewer just screams over him

  • Hahaha Hitchens is hilarious and very logical. His knowledge capacity allows that logic to flow so simply from him. It's awesome to have someone like this with so much understanding. I really hope he recovers from his cancer. For all those Christians out there, I hope Hitchens goes to your heaven and has a few glasses of scotch with Jesus as they watch Christians do their foolish stupidity.

Jesus: "I came down there, performed a few magic tricks and they STILL don't get it LOL"

  • At 1:50 Hitchens says "there is this huge industry of illusion."

He could just as easily use that description when discussing religion.

  • Stoumboulopoulos did a great job as host.

  • I wonder what ever happened to that movie..

  • @Muthsera80 Hitchens was diagnosed with esophageal cancer....so I think the movie is on hold until we see if he can beat it. Which is something I really really hope happens.

  • you can tell Christopher enjoyed being interviewd with this guy, at the end of the show he shakes his hand and places the other hand on top of the interviwers hand, which Cristopher rarley ever does.

  • Torture is banned under the Geneva Convention and the USA is a signatory. It really is as simple as that.

  • @jonno2019 It's just a shame people don't pay attention to old conventions any more. After WW2, the old "I'm just following orders!" excuse doesn't work any more, but people still use it - and get excused for it. Absurd.

  • Christopher Hitchens is one of the funniest men alive. His quick wit is displayed at the end of this vid, and he even indulges in a brief but rare chuckle at his own wit.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery Hitch. The world needs you.

  • And now Christopher has cancer of the throat, too bad. It's a bitch to quit smoking.

  • OH MY FUCKING GOD. is this dude (CMVD777) below me serious?

    What a douchebag.

Only reason i won't respond to him and point out the many plain errors in his tirade is that I don't want to feed the trolls.

  • @ThePassiveFist

I did a point by point rebuttal yesterday and he has yet to reply. He has also copy pasted all of his messages on a LOT of videos. He must be a troll.

  • 5. Mostly atheist, are against GOD's morality and justice but never refer the same to other candidate: satan.

    6. Bible maintans evolution after creation, earth have billions of years etc.

    Atheism is a dead concept.

  • @CMVD777 Troll

  • @BlackBeardDelight187 In addition, CMVD777 appears to be a past national spelling bee champion.

  • @BlackBeardDelight187 Who? Why?

  • @CMVD777 dead :D

  • @CMVD777 You are a class A idiot. I've never read such tripe.

  • @djairborne2006

    Oh....and your "arguments" are....****

  • @CMVD777 I didn't present any arguments, I'm just saying you're an idiot. There is NO proof for the existence of god, and I'm glad there isn't! To claim otherwise is to be deluded.

  • @CMVD777 im an atheist i dont believe there is a god and i dont believe in satan or heaven in hell. When i die im dead i think it will be just like before i was born

  • @CMVD777

1 Prayer has no effect on cancer/sickness etc.

2 they are isolated from scociety, so they seek belonging

3 most ppl in jail are religious. About 0.21% are agnostic/atheist.

4 Scandinavia is one of the least religious countries, they also have low criminality, very good living conditions. If you look at the most religious countries christian or muslim, you'll see a change in the living conditions. The US is very religious and very high crime rate.

Sorry if my english is bad:)

  • @shady200684 Except from the fact that Scandinavia isn't a country, good answer :D

  • @NorthernRealmJackal It is in Risk =)

  • @SketchyBack Touché

  • 3. Blasphemies: if anybody will do it, is puniched very soon and anybody is free to try it, even right now! This one can come immediatly or later and it doesn't mean death or going to hospital (but can also happen).

    4. In Bible, we find two (2) candidates to be called GOD, but atheists are arguing just with ONE,not with other pretendent.

  • God exist! evidences:

    1. In Bible we find a lot of prophecies which happened and are happening, examples: vatican, midle east, united states, new order etc.

    2. If anybody will follow what God asks (ex: praying), everybody will have whatever they want (ask). Note:Praying in a right form, following the INSTRUCTIONS in the Bible (keeping the 10 commandments - including keeping the Saturday as the 7th day etc.).

  • @CMVD777 the tooth fairy exists. EVIDENCES: children eye witnesses and even some adults

  • thats bull shit that cigs are easier to quit then heroin. its like the difference between getting kicked by a child to being kicked by someone from the ufc

  • "Tougher and funnier, tougher and funnier..."

  • Oh, I hope he was serious whit the movie

  • a god is not great documentary...wow......Hitch is Great!!

  • "Is it an angrier version of the Bill Maher documentary?"

    "No, Funnier."

The funny thing is I think that Christopher Hitchens is funnier than Bill Maher.

  • I'm sorry Mr Hitchens we are said that we are to up hold the constitution, but we are also told we must follow all orders, and we do get into trouble if we do not follow orders.

  • Go Hitchens! Congratulations for quitting smoking. I'm pretty sure he can keep it up actually. Now...for the booze...

  • Comment removed

  • One has to admire an investigative journalist with balls like Hitchens, even if they are temporarily bald.

  • love him but he has started smoking again :(

  • @AIDINSWE point?

  • smoking is bad, doohhh

  • Aww...I just noticed that after I wrote my post hoping he could keep it up. Damn.

  • The interviewer looks like he's going to be terrible, this ain't the case. His interview with Dawkins is equally good.

  • This interviewer surprised me. He`s got a lot more gravitas than a lot of people give him credit for. Good interview.

  • @PXR05 strombos dope

  • @PXR05

I agree - I would go as far as saying this guy is the best interviewer I've seen on American television. Intelligent, well-informed, asks good questions...superb.

  • @garethac81 Unfortunately, this is a Canadian program on CBC. And yes, he is quite good at what he does.

  • @Bringerofdeath9753

Oh...just when I thought American standards were rising! So, it's well done Canada, then :)

  • After watching this, I think I'm going to take up a habit of watching The Hour every night again.

  • @PXR05

Yes, alot of people dismiss him as a hipster but he is actually one of the better interviewers out there.

  • @PXR05 I was just going to say that. Very true.

  • @PXR05 He's a brilliant interviewer

  • This is one of the better interviews with the Hitch. George S. is a good interviewer too.

  • @fubintien yes, and you can tell that hitchens like him.

  • Comment removed

  • He's says through citizenship

not when they enter the military

  • I do solomly ( I cant spell) swear to support and defend the constitution of the United States...... I said these words as an enlisted man twice, it goes on to say against all enemies, foriegn and domestic, etc. I beg to differ from your post. CHeers.

  • Yeah they make an oath. So what?

  • @controllerbrain They're legally bound as soldiers, and it can be held judicially against them to counter the oath, much like perjury in the courtroom after an oath of truth.

  • if you can manage to smoke only 2 0r 3 a day it can be quite an enjoyable deadly habit. the trouble is that it is a slippery slope and before you know it your smoking a pack and a half everyday.

  • @TomCat2800 where did you get the idea he advocates torture? He explicitly states that he's apposed to waterboarding...

  • yes, you can watch the video where he personally volunteers to test waterboarding, and says that he wouldn't do it to anyone.

  • i think you are confusing him with sam harris who equates torture with casualties of war (if you drop a bomb innocent lives are lost, but torturing potential informants could prevent dropping a bomb).

  • @TomCat2800

    ROFL

  • Smoking does suck. At one moment I need one because I'm down, at another I need one because I'm happy. I need one because I'm nervous about an ordeal and then I need one because I've just overcome it. I need one when I wax philosophical and then another when I need to 'ground' myself. Kids, don't start!

  • I'm glad he wants to make the book in to a documentary, but I doubt it'll be funnier than religulous...

  • I... dunno. I did not find Religulous to be as funny as I hoped, especially given how great Maher's stand up is. And while he covered the Christians and the Muslims, I thought he soft peddled on the Judaism.

  • @PurushaDesa i guess cause he is a jew and his producers, the network he works for, all of hollywood, ect. are also jews. wouldnt want to ruffle too many feathers i guess.

  • In case you haven't noticed, Chris is NOT scared of "ruffling feathers", in fact, he is making a rather decent living out of it.

  • @DavesHome Depends on what bird you ruffle feathers on, I guess.

  • the little glowing friend...

can't think why i gave it up..

    excellent !!!!

  • Hitchens is great, and I'd hate to argue with him, because I'd most certainly lose, but I think the interviewer should have challenged him more on the Iraq issue.

  • @thegreatdant Hi, to be fair, Christopher Hitchens has covered this issue in great detail in numerous debates which you can find on YouTube.

  • out of all the makeovers he could of done...... brazilian waxing?lol

  • I would watch that movie in a heartbeat.

Hitchens is hilarious and hard-hitting, such a winning combo.

  • Man, I really need to quit smoking but it's hard. I agree with Hitchens, whenever I'm trying to pull an allnighter by studying for an exam, smoking helps. But the shit isn't good.

  • ...And God created nicotine...

  • prince hitchens

  • I say nay to christianity, and yay to Norse Paganism! Were a religion that have also grown with the times of the world. It's a way to honor your ancestors and be universalist.

    may the worlds eye's open

    Be well

  • well people also tend to forget that no christian had even heard the word "God" until the 5th-8th century ... its an ancient Germanic word and indigenous European construct

  • He doesn't look 60

  • no god

  • haha "can't think why i gave the shit up"

  • Oh my God. I would LOVE a God is not Great movie! That would be fantastic

  • @SnakeBite27 watch "the root of all evil"

  • @SnakeBite27 , I was going to write the same thing. Now that Mr. Hitchens is fighting cancer, it bothers me greatly that we may never see it. I hope he recovers his health enough that he gets to make this movie, because I think that would make him very happy, and stand as a testament to him.

  • I am so glad to hear CH not bullshitting about smoking. I feel exactly the same way. I loved to smoke and I wish I still did. The fear and the rationality just got to me.

  • I have kicked opiates for months on end loads of times,Tobaco however I think(at best) I've kicked for a couple of days(I'm still trying with both!)

    Nicotine is a cunt!

  • Dont tell nobody I told you all that!

  • In fact I was joking!!

    Nicotine is a cunt though!

The bastards get you hooked on it when your just a kid who thinks that smoking looks bloody cool!

I fell for it........dont I feel like a daft cunt!!!

  • I can only speak personally but I would agree that nicotine/and Cigarettes are(in a way)more difficult to kick than some other drugs.(for a few reasons)

Ciggy's are just so readily available and they go well with a drink and nobody is gonna lock you up for smoking(at worst you get a fine for doing it in the wrong place)but cigarettes are horribly addictive and kill loads of people!

Fuck I hate being a smoker!

  • Gis a light........

  • Try a book called The Easy Way to Quit Smoking, by Allen Carr. Worked for me, although I still crave them from time to time. You will never be rid of the addiction, but you can control it.

  • cablepanos-Thanks for the quitting smoking tip(anything is worth a try!)

  • " I am not equating what the Americans are doing to Nazis in any way" - 0:30. Good save George.

  • OK, so we have two camps - pro-torture and no torture. Where does that leave us? I am a VERY big fan of dividing the country. Let's say the non-torture folks go to the west coast, and all the pro-torture folks go to the east coast.. Then, we pro-torture folks can DEFEND ourselves against ALL EMEMIES. Non-torture folks can do without national defense- since you HATE war. When the next terrorist attack comes, to whom do expect it will be against - those who can defend or those who cannot?

  • Being against torture and against war is NOT the same. Hitchens does not take that position. The camp that is against torture does not take that decision simply on moralistic terms, but also on the basis it is ineffective. The best interrogations were the non-violent ones: Osama bin-Laden's bodygaurd, Abu Jandal only began to talk to the CIA once they had established themselves as compassionate huan beings. He gave us the identity of 7 of the 9/11 bombers.

  • the're both English but Hitchens has US citizenship

  • Love him and all his videos! However, can't give up Deism. Great information at Deism d com.

  • He's like an English Richard Dawkins

  • Or is Richard Dawkins like an Elnglish Christopher Hitchens?

  • lol, just joking. I know Hitchens is an American citizen.

  • I'm done. I'm gonna stop reading my youtube inbox. Its something I do every other day, but, apparently, that's probably what some people probably do all day. Its just a waste of time. I'm tired of having to deal with social retards that have no other place to type and talk their lame shit but on youtube comment lists and stick cam chat rooms. Fuck it. I'm done. I was just trying to express some light hearted, ironic humour, but you just suck. I wasted too many words on you already. I'm out.

  • I feel your pain brother, but they're counting on this!

The Massive Media Consolidations of the late 90's. Consolidating media allows for a rich elite few to control & shape the message & information. Add in their push for cuts in education spending & presto! A dumber-dumbed down society that'll believe anything if it's packaged right.

The only good is knowledge and the only evil is ignorance.

    -Socrates

  • woot? xD

  • keep trollin trollin trollin trollin

    keep trollin trollin trollin trollin

    keep trollin trollin trollin trollin

  • No, you actually mean yourself and well over half of everyone on youtube.

  • I would LOVE to see god is Not Great: The Movie!

  • yeah that would be siiiiick!

  • Comment removed

  • bring on the movie

  • It's weird. When I first started watching Hitchens not that long ago I thought he was an angry, deadly serious person. I have quite the opposite impression of him now. He's funny, intelligent and very down-to-earth.

How many Washington pussies would let themselves be waterboarded? Not many.

  • Hitchens is in fact one of the funniest men around. It's just that he has a very subtle British sense of humour - which unfortunately is lost on most Americans.
