Jerry Scheff would be proud..! Great bassline, Good to bump into you at the rehearsal studio the other week, I found a couple of pics of Jet Black from back in the day, featuring a very young looking bass player...! Take it easy ..........
What exercises do you do to get your speed and how to get those 8/16th notes so crisp? Do you use your 4th finger on your right hand? Is it better to use a heavy gauge string for sound?
hi there just basic chromatic with a metronome. no tricks just 1st / 2nd finger on right hand, and also damping with right hand and thumb to keep notes clear and clean. i was using 45-105s i think. Practise, there is no easy way around doing basslines like this other than sheer work. )
finally, someone doing a bass cover that actually understands feel. playing a song right involves so much more than just playing the correct notes. nice.
Thanks mate to be honest i just make it up as i go along, but the main song is worked around 3 chords G-C-D and there are major and also notes from the blues scale in there as well to give it that blues feeling;. Its just a matter of getting that 8/16th note grooves going over those scales. Hope it helps mate, and thanks.
@bluesquidd hi i took off the EBs and put Roto sounds on, but they are a little weedy for me (gauge too light) next set im going to try DR lo riders. glad you like it, Bongo is best bass iv ever had, that includes fenders sadowskys, musicman, yamaha stutus. You will grow to love it as i have. I would in time like to upgrade this bass for a 6 string version.
really if i was playing this live i would not have got that busy till the build up, that how Jerry did it with Elvis, but yeah the concert version was very busy on the bass and drums. Yeah the bongo has a FANTASTIC GROWL to it!
Thank you the bongo has an amazing sound, cant fault it at all, every sound you get outa that thing rocks! I would like to look into the 6 string version of it.
thanks mate, getting the sound right so the bongo can be heard as it should be makes a huge differance. Thats just the natural sound of the bass, no amp or FX, and of course, alot of years practice! hehe

Everytime I watch this I'm ready to run out and buy a Bongo. The whole "lack of funds" thing keeps stopping me.
What's your amp setup like?

Sounds nice. I just got my Bongo 2 days ago. What brand bass strings are you using? Ernie Ball?
