  • this is my all-time favorite hymn ... thank you to whoever sang this and gave the Glory to God instead of themselves ... Bless you

  • @pammoll

This is a very beautiful version of this hymn. I want this on my MP3 player. Jars of Clay made a nice cover of this, too. Check it out.

  • 362 people know that it is well with their soul.

  • when i have to be put to rest, please play this hymn.

  • 2 people. . .

Nah, making fun of the 2 people who disliked this video wouldn't be very Christian of me. God bless the author of this hymn for being able to praise God even when all kinds of inclement circumstances surround him.

  • THIS IS GREAT

  • I'm not a member of the God squad, but I do appreciate good music whatever its source or inspiration may be. This is a great example of a'capella chorale; tone-perfect, tight harmonies and excellent delivery.

Thanks to Emrys for sending me the link.

    JB.

  • Fantastic! Where can I get this for my Iphone?

  • I miss my church of christ home bad. thankyou for making this video it makes me feel at home. :)

  • It can be nothing but well with my Soul.Hallelujah !

  • I suggest that we search the story of the writer of this hymn. It is very moving.

  • @MrEriesal It Is Well With My Soul was penned by Horatio Spafford and put to music by Philip Bliss. It was written after several traumatic experiences. The death of his son at 4, the Great Chicago Fire, and what really caused him to write this song.

In 1873, he planned to go to Europe with his wife and children. He instead sent them ahead on the SS Ville du Harve due to business delaying him. On the journey, the ship hit another ship and sank quickly. He received these words from his wife...

  • @vlasktom Thank you so much. That experience was unbearable for a common Christian but it was God who gave peace within.

  • @MrEriesal You're very welcome. There is a verse that is not sung here that we sing at my church.

    Though Satan should buffet,

    Though trials should come

    Let this blessed assurance control,

That God has regarded my helpless estate,

And has shed His own blood for my soul.

It is well (it is well),

With my soul (with my soul),

It is well, it is well with my soul

  • @vlasktom Indeed, that is the story....this hymn has helped me through some very tough times in my life, and I sang the contralto part in choir, it was hard because I had to choke back the tears at the same time,

  • @MrEriesal ... "Survived alone." On his way to Europe, the captain of the ship pulled him aside and said, "this is where we believe the ship carrying your family sank." Being unable to sleep that night, he wrote the words to this song. Simply put, he's saying that no matter what we go through, with God, it is well with my soul.

  • ilove it... thanks god there are many believer... than antiechrist... love it.. god bless

  • Sung with voices only, the way God meant us to worship Him. Amen to a great Hymn!

  • @asdfghjkl99782 Not that I want to start an argument, and please don't take this the wrong way, but I don't agree. I love a capella too, and I think this is a lovely hymn, but I don't think that's the only way we should worship God. What about worshipping him with lyre, harp, trumpet, tambourines, resounding symbols and dance? (Psalm 150), and in spirit and truth (John 4:24)? In the light of this passage, worship doesn't have to involve music at all.

  • nice voices!!! i really appreciate this song... God bless

  • Beautifully done, superb harmony of male voices ! Thank you. Today is Easter Sunday -- April 24, 2011. HALLELUJAH !! He has risen indeed !! And so can we !! "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." --- John 3:16

  • Beautifully done! Thank you. Today is Easter Sunday -- April 24, 2011. HALLELUJAH !! He has risen indeed !! And so can we !! "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." --- John 3:16

  • i love this. i love hymnal songs a cappella.... i love this.. i really love this..

  • i love this. i love hymnal songs a cappella

  • I love this song...it has become the national anthem for my soul. Whenever I am in distress or have worries....God makes it possible for me hear this song. The word are so moving. I only like the orignal version (like this one). This is truly a blessing.

  • We keep having debates about introducing instruments to Sunday morning worship at the moment - I say absolutely not! Why ruin such beautiful hymns, that their authors spent so long perfecting?

This was sung at my dad's funeral, so it always has me in floods now. But when I think of the words, I remember God's got a plan for me and He'll sort it all out as long as I trust Him :)

  • By far the best recording of this I've ever heard! This has always been one of my favorite hymns of all time.

  • Just think at a time when most people would have turned thier backs on God he had the strength of faith to write this beautiful song

  • beautiful hymn

  • best rendition ive heard so far

  • The writer of this song wrote this after losing all of his children to a shipwreck.

    Powerful.

  • This is one of the best songs i have ever heard for a long time. i am not feeling well, but this songs has buoyed my spirit. keep doing well gentlemen. make sure you are grounded and rooted in the Lord. When Jesus comes, we can say, "It is well with my soul"

  • wow :) although i'm one of the biggest rock and metal fan out there, you have to keep some things a capella! this is my favorite hymn ever, and it gives me encouragement when I'm in hard times. "Praise the Lord, Praise the Lord oh my soul!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" God Bless you :DDDDDDDDDDD

  • Can I share this to blog..This song is awesome!

    God Bless

  • This is one of the most beautiful hymns ever written, especially when one is aware of the circumstances the author was going through at the time of its writing.

I felt really, really broken and unlovable earlier, so I sought out this song. I feel ever so slightly closer to God.

  • @glmathgrant If you want the salvation, have faith in God and The Lord, and that you know you The Lord died on the cross for you and everyone to wash away your sin with his blood to make your soul that is/was red and now white. Then will you never feel the unlovable feeling. But there will be times when you say to yourself. "Why do i deserve his undying, and endless love"? lol

  • My cousins, and I are going to sing this at my Grandpas funeral

  • Beautiful!!!! Needed this today....a glorious reminder of God's sacrifice for me

  • Beautifully done!! Thank you for this video!!!

  • Breathtakingly beautiful; words, music, the whole song - and I LOVE best that they ask the question at the end - what about you? Is your soul at peace with God? The time is short - we don't have a promise of tomorrow, but in the midst of all the turmoil of life - we can have this kind of true peace knowing that Jesus suffered, died, and rose again the third day just as He said He would - to wipe away our sins. We can spend eternity thanking him for that greatest of all gifts.

  • "My sin, oh the bliss of this glorious thought, my sin not in part but the whole, is nailed to the cross and I bear it no more!"

  • I have never seen the beauty in the simplicity of the chorus until now! Wonderful! Oliviana

  • nice and classic, just wat i was looking for, good job

  • Beautiful harmony; I especially like the low base voices. Thanks!

    Rick

  • A lovely rendition of this hymn. Thanks for posting.

  • This gives me goosebumps. To think that we can really give our sins and troubles to the Lord. God bless you all.

  • We sang this song at a friends funeral Tuesday just gone. From now on whenever I hear it, I will shed a few tears, get goosebumps, but also be reminded that the beautiful Debbie Lean is now in the presence of Christ.

  • If any of you are unaware of the circumstances leading to the writing of this song, it is worth your research.

  • I sing this song at church and It over fills peoples "cups". I've been told When I sing this song that angels come down to help me. I get weak whenever i sing this song and it makes my heart fly to a place i cant wait to see. It's been a two years since Ive been found, it was October 19, 2006. And I cant wait to go home soon some day.

  • no way what churches the church of satan i guess if they took out this song

  • i am only 12. and i LOVE this song

  • this is the right note of the song

  • This song was sung at my grandfather's funeral when I was about 8 years old. I don't remember much of anything about the funeral except for this song sang by three brothers who are family friends. This sounds almost exactly how they sang it. I canNOT listen to THIS version without crying. RIP Grandpa, we all miss you!

  • @vlaskom i dont think you should tAke out humnals... But mixing christian with rock is fine. look up the band the devil wears prada. Then look up their christian testemony. Great song btw

  • AMEN! I am 16 years old and without the lord i would have died in a drunken/high binge. i layed there almost dead puking up blood. i would have died and gone to hell. praise the Lord Jesus Christ i am alive and know know that my soul with live forever more with the Lord in heaven for eternity. PRAISE THE LORD GOD ALMIGHTY!!!

  • @zackt112

I am so happy that you made the decision to follow Jesus; the best decision you ever made. God bless you.

  • I wish they kept the entire final verse save the chorus at a faster tempo-as was originally written

  • Most beautiful acapella! God bless .

  • Could we have the name of this marvelous group or is it some deep dark secret?

Very moving. The way it is presented, you can almost feel the pain of the gentleman as he penned these words.

    Awesome harmony

  • good job

  • that bass is a powerhouse... wonderful performance.

  • The Sevenday Adventist have put this beautiful hymn in their hymnal and this is the way it is sung..It is my favorite.

  • What is the name of this group that sings this version?

  • I like when I hear music like this, to which you can feel the harmony of heaven both in lyrics and in music.

  • Two family friends sang this song at my grandfather's funeral when I was around 7 or 8 years old, and I will never forget this song because they sang it there. Made me cry hearing it again, I miss you, Grandpa!

  • My sin not in part but the whole, is NAILED TO THE CROSS, AND I BEAR IT NO MORE...PRAISE THE LORD! PRAISE THE LORD! O, MY SOUL!

  • I love this song, and you all did a wonderful job with it.

  • Beautiful song. Great bass contribution!! I love this song and having quality bass participation makes it so much better!

  • @girlwithguns88 I thank you for apprecitating the "lost art" of the bass in quartet and other style music. Musical quality is at an all-time low in my opinion because of of the lack of bass singers in modern pop music. That's what makes old-time hymns so unique and powerful is because of a properly written bass line. ( I should know, cause I'm a bass/baritone type singer myself). thanks

  • This is my all-time favorite hymn! Love it!

  • Beautiful song!

First time i hear i in the New Apostolic Church in Germany. (Wenn Friede mit Gott meine Seel durchdringt)

    God bless you.

  • This is a totally AWESOME version! It's recorded the way I remember the song. Three voices. Harmonizing, as a choir, not monotone. Tears flow, when I listen to the lyrics! It IS well, with my soul!

  • so far the best version of this song on youtube imo

  • my sin not in part but the whole..... is nailed to the cross and i bear it no more praise the lord praise the lord oh my soul

  • @Gumpo09

That phrase brings me to tears every time. The God is good!

  • god bless...

  • luv this hym!

  • i can't believe several churches have taken this song out of their hymnals. this is one of the most beautiful hymns i've ever heard!

    god bless whoever sings this

  • my church does use this hymn and it's one of my favorite hymns as well

  • my church also uses this hymn. and i think God's wanting me to sing it for a special. since i last heard this song i've been unable to stop singing it. maybe me and my girlfriend could do a duet since we go to the same church

  • @phildaddy4

one of my favs too. SO beautiful. These old hymns are SO MUCH more worshipful than the contemporary Christian music in my opinion,.

  • Why did they do that????

  • @vlasktom O my goodness are you really? I cant see what would cause a church to do that...thats sad.

  • @mwai72 Sadly yes. Many denominations (Catholics, Mormons, etc) have taken it out of their hymnals because it's "not approptiate." Even more churches have taken hymns out of their church completely and replaced it with "Christian Rock." You can't have Christian music mixed with Rock. It's like a Child-Safe Chainsaw. It doesn't work

  • @vlasktom thats just crazy...well am glad 'we' still have it in our 'church hymanl'..lol @ 'child-safe chainsaw'!!

  • @vlasktom but god bless everyone ;)

  • that is what He wil teach all His children.

  • Very well said!

  • Very Beautiful, Thank you for sharing God Bless You.

  • This is really good! Thanks.

  • This song is most i like and reminding me that whatever happen in our lives, it is well with my soul! God Bless you all!

  • wow this sounds great, i should sing this song as a special at my church !

  • They're all great singers in this group. Having a low voice, I think that bass singer is just sick! Sick as in awesome!

The lyrics of the last verse always overwhelms me! I can't wait!!!!!

    God bless all of you!

  • HASTE THE DAY

  • I recently spent 17 days in the hospital due to a bacrerial infection and sepsis brought on from a port used to deliver chemotherapy treatments.

We are still fighting and winning the battles against the cancer!!

On my lucid days, when my fever wasn't trying to boil my brain from the inside out, this song kept coming to my heart and mind.

Thank you for posting and than God for such a wonderful song.

  • this is the only group that has sung this song properly, and hasn't demoslished it with modern day 'pop'.

    love it!

  • you're very right. =)

  • @Raffi7290 *Sang

  • @Raffi7290 Thanks for saying that. You are so right. I love these great hymns sung properly like the song was origionally written. Religiously we believe in all acapella music sung from the heart. I'm not trying to pick an argument over this with anyone. People on the web are different religions, so we have to expect to disagree with others on these matters, but we don't have to be irritating or act rude. I'm just trying to be kind and say what's on my heart. Hope I've been helpful. Respectfully

  • @Angryrnmedic Ephesians 5:19- speaking one to another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord. Amen Brother. It is so hard to find acapella gospels on here, everyone wants their ears tickled with a big band instead of actually worship. Romans 16:16- Greet each other with a holy kiss. All the churches of Christ greet you. :)

  • @Raffi7290 Thanks so much for saying that. I hate to hear solemn hymns "demolished" with a pop tempo. This is so beautifully done. Thank You. RN

  • @Angryrnmedic I agree 100%

  • @Raffi7290 I most definitely agree with you on that! I'm 14 and my youth group always has to take wonderful hymns and try to make them "more appealing to kids" while it may do that for some people I just wish they wouldn't destroy such beautiful hymns as this.

  • This is one of those songs that just must be sung acapella, and you have done justice with it.

    Well done!
