Been to Hawaii five times and as a mainlander absolutely am simpathetic to the plight of the Hawaiian people. Often thought independence would be for the best. It started with missionaries trying to destroy the language and culture, the imprisonment of Queen Lili'uokalani is something all americans should be ashamed of, but that all happened before statehood, and many indeps like Haiti are a disaster. So better alone? I'm not sure.

My stepmom was from Hawai'i and that was the first time I ever heard the beautiful music from the Islands. I have loved the music since I first heard it. This song should be an anthem for not just protecting Hawai'i, but ALL the beautiful places in the world that "civilization and progress" have ruined. I have never had the chance to go to experience Hawai'i myself, but the cultural heritage- music, language and dance are wonderful and moving.
I lived in Honolulu for five months in 1961. None of the high rise buildings were yet constructed. Wonderful music. Fond memories when our President was an infant there & both his parents were at the University of Hawaii.

My stepmom was from Hawai'i and that was the first time I ever heard the beautiful music from the Islands. I have loved the music since I first heard it. This song should be an anthem for not just protecting Hawai'i, but ALL the beautiful places in the world that "civilization and progress" have ruined. I have never had the chance to go to experience Hawai'i myself, but the cultural heritage- music, language and dance are wonderful and moving.
