Heppner's voice is so bright & metallic but still warm & velvety at the same time and it is a huge instrument! I think that he sounds most like what Wagner would have wanted. Wagner still wanted the Bel Canto technique and sound but with truth and realism driving it. Wagner praised Rossini's Guglielmo Tell for example as a masterpiece.
