The video is great. I'm trying to convert 3gp to .mp4 or .mov - I follow your steps. VLC does it's thing. the file is on my desktop but Quicktime still says it's unrecognizeable. Any ideas?

ok when i convert the video that i downloaded from youtube, i do exactly what you did (convert it to mp4) and the final result has only the audio and no video.

I can open the converted file with VLC but not with Quick Time. What should i do?

I don't know why, but even though you gave thorough step by step instructions this simply does not work on mac. I did exactly as you said and everything happened as you said except the the new file can't open saying it is not a video file.

so i am trying to convert an mp4 file from youtube into an mp3 file by using VLC on my mac but the file that i create that i place on my desktop does nothing. It does indeed place an mp3 file on my desktop, but when i double click on it, it doesn't even open it in iTunes......

am i missing a step?

well, I have downloaded really old music videos from YouTube and I would like to extract just the sound out of them as an mp3 file.

But i found out there an app called GetTube that came quite in handy that did just that for me.
