  • Died in Detroit in 1937 along with the essential substance of bass sax accompaniment.

  • Awesome, totally loved it.

  • Very much alive! I just went to his concert last Saturday. Charming as ever

  • Th Pennsylvania Macaroni Company, opens at 10 AM

  • There will never, ever be another Leon... live forever, my man~

  • is that vince giordano on bass sax?

  • He is playing in Sacramento at Harlow's on the 7th of April.

  • Leon has his own website, which shows his schedule. I wish he'd come out west, he'd be a very quick sellout in Reno.

  • He played a wedding in colorado at the hotel where they filmed the shining in 1927.

  • Be glad eveybody he i still alive, even if his father was the GREAT Paganini. How old he is a mystery.

Anywhere he gave a great show at the Blues in Hell, Norway 5-6 of september - 08

  • what's he doing out there when he's dead?

  • I hatehe was killed.

Was it the St Valentines day Massacre?

  • he isn't dead...go to his name dot com and check out his current tour dates.

  • Are you sure he was not killed in '27 like the MC said?

  • Ah, humor! LOL

    I believe it was '37. ;)

Just like when I saw LR in Tuscaloosa in '77

  • thanks for sending me this video... bluebarry...... he's a hard artist to find on the net

  • I like the whole mix. The

    dobro also fits in.

  • Man, that saxophonist is good.

  • i love the hat thing he always does..nice to see a dead man play...better than most live ones today.

  • he isn't dead...

  • Buy his Christmas CD "Christmas Island." It is really the best x-mas cd made. He has Dr John and some great backups. We bought it when it came out in '87 and can't wait to get it out around the holidays!

    Thanks for the post!

  • I believe the title of the song is "My Good Gal's Gone Blues."

  • how in the jail was he born in 1888 an killed in 1937 and alive at the 1987 music thing

  • I think its a TuBax

  • I love this guy. I have all his recordings.

  • Leon Is Toooooooo Coooooooool!

  • Yooooooou Bechaaaaaa

  • as good as a groucho movie

  • Bass saxophone.. there's a courageous man..

  • That would be a baritone..

  • No that would clearly be a bass sax...just like Rollini.

  • I own a baritone. I am looking at the baritone and looking at the video right now. A "Bass" saxophone was a tag that selmer put on their baritones in the 30s and 40s, a bass saxophone has a completely different neck than a baritone but is not much larger, and a contrabass saxophone is about five and a half feet tall.

  • schnauzerhead

That is a BASS Saxophone made by Conn in around 1920. I know because its ME playing it. I was part of Redbone's "act" for several years. The bass sax is in Bb the baritone in Eb, and ther is no mistaking the 2. By the way, Selmer made crummy bass saxes.

    Cheers

    Banjoman

  • Oh yeah? Well I played in henry the eighths touring band, as well as teaching elvis to play guitar, and I possess the holy grail. Every morning when I wake up the sun rises with me, and I can shoot lightning out of my eyes. I played poker with jesus and backgammon with buddha, and I showed keith richards the secret to eternal life, which if you're wondering involves a whole ton of heroin and the flesh of infants. I was there when al gore invented the internet in 1993.

  • I guess none of them know the difference between a bass and baritone sax either.

  • Whatever.....Biggest damn sax I ever saw! :-)

  • THANKS!

  • Thanks very much for posting these. It is so difficult to find video of this fine performer.

  • I love him.

    Yoodoling too...

    nice going, tripod too...
