Hmm? i have same processor at 3.35Ghz and Club 3D 4890 Superclocked 1Gb 4gb DDR2.. im only playing at high arent you even lagging is this whit all on max ? i dont think you can play whit that gpu that smoothly because mine is much better and i dont know if i can play at very high

No, actually I have studied a lot benchmarks and read reviews, so it's clear that GTA 4 performs smooth on a quad core CPUs.

I love the new AMD's. I got the new Phenom 2 x4 955, 6 gig dominator 1600 ddr3, ASUS M4A79T Deluxe Motherboard (which is a beast). I have the new XFX Radeon 4890 (insane for a single card), and 2 WD Velociraptors 300 gig In Raid 0, another 1T Caviar balck. My case is a Antec 1200 with a Corsair 750w supply (the single 12v rail rocks). whole system came to 1500.00. Intel i7 system is nearly twice as much. I have both and there is no real world difference. Save money go AMD and live happy.

right...and a 8600 is better then a GTX295... umm i own a 9800GTX+ Superclocked.... not a 9800GTX and i dont lose fps when i turn my res up. and the 4850 does... so no it doesnt in aa yes but its not by far.. oh and the 4850 has driver bugs... the 9800GTX+ doesnt... so

depends what fps you find good enough.

I have a lesser rig and im running it pretty close to max on 2048x1536, cant max because of only 512mb vram.

FPS is 25-33, which imo is not that bad for this game.

Not bad for that resolution, but doesn't matter what FPS you find good enough if you find anything less than 60FPS not good enough. Game has a limiter and most benchmarkers say no matter what GPU/CPU combo they use they can't get past 60FPS except maybe around 62-63FPS. And it's not V-Sync that's limiting it either. Not really sure why they'd limit this game, it's so great. I hit 50FPS average with an AMD Phenom II 940 and 8800GT on almost all max settings @ 1680x1050.

What resolution do you run at? You should easily be able to play on max settings at 1680x1050 with that setup. I have an AMD Phenom II 940, PNY 512MB 8800GT, 8GB's OCZ Platinum Edition DDR2 800 RAM, and an AsRock 790GX motherboard, and I'm able to play almost maxed out at 1680x1050 at an average of 50FPS, so I'm assuming with a 9800GTX+ you'd get at least the same, and probably be able to bump the last few settings I have set just below ultra up a little bit and be okay.

Yeah, I have NO DOUBT in my mind you can play as high as possible on 1024x768 with your setup. You'll of course probably need to use the "-norestrictions" hack so it doesn't limit you, but I'm sure you'd be able to turn it all the way up no problem. And I'd have to say the same about 1440x900. You might lost a couple FPS due to the higher res, but there's nothing you'd need to upgrade for that res. 9800GTX+ is more than enough for any res under 1680x1050.
