I come from Australia where we have compulsory voting and we do not even have the type of celebration that you in USA do when there is an election. I htink the USA does it better than we do here in Australia.
The excitement level of the Obama win has never been seen before in American history. It just goes to show you how much of a piece of shit George W. Bush really is.
True, all true, but still: You can avoid most of the crowds by taking the side streets, you can get a decent hot dog (or anything else) on those side streets for much less than you think, you don't have to buy anything. As for tourists, hell, have you seen the average New Yorker? God love 'em (and I do), but there's nothing like a couple (hundred) Scandinavian blondes to make one's sightseeing day.
As far as the hot dogs, I wouldn't buy a dirty water dog from those hot dog stands if you paid me. I did a few health inspections on the places where they store those stands and food, and it is horrible.
You make a good point though with the Scandinavian blondes. :)
To give you one last rejoinder: I was referring less to the water dogs than the famous (on the big and small screen alike) Gray's Papaya dogs on 36th and 8th, about 4 short blocks downtown from the Square. Grilled and crispy and cheap.
I like a Papaya dog once in a while but I like the one on 8th st and 6th. Also, if you're really want a hot dog heart attack, try out crif dogs in the E.Village.
i was there with my friends.... ouch , there were flyers being shoved in our faces left and right, pretty funny. they were handing out "mccain condoms" saying "they might get old, but they still work. " pretty funny
This is seriously something amazing that happened in our lifetimes :) I don't care if people are bitter, or think it's not that great. How many other presidents can get oprah to cry? Seriously! What else was going to make this big of a reaction, this kind of passion? Jon Stewart even cried for pete's sake :) This was big. I'm glad you, too, got it on camera!
I like how u said "I happened to have my camera on in Times Square when it was first displayed on the CNN big screen that Barack Obama was projected the winner of the election! "
Also thousands of other people "happened" to have cameras lol.
I guess I should say that I happened to hit the record button on my digital camera right before CNN first projected that he was going to win. I wasn't shooting hours of video with my little point-and-shoot camera. It was a coincidence for me. :-) My friends and I--although having a good time--were about to go home because we thought it would be a while before the race was called. I think it caught everyone off guard when they first put that on the screen.
Haha. Yeah, I wish I was there to see that. I got there right before his speech. I was asleep when they announced his win lol. But what a great night. Check out my vids on that night.

Too many people, too many tourists, shitty food which is overpriced, lame shopping.
If you want real NYC head downtown.

Let's just say they should serve their hot dogs with a side of lipitor.
