  • this is purely Heavy!!!!!

  • @Myke21 Thanks bro, I'm very thankful for that period in my life, a vision that was truly gift and a blessing from above.

  • So good.

  • This guy was off the charts! I have a cd of him playing tenor live and it is just astonishing how all the music poured out of him in such natural fashion, much like in this clip. I found the disc by accident in a bargain bin, it is on the DIW label from Japan, if you can find it, you will be amazed.

  • and I though Ulmer and Gilmore were the only ones.

    this guy is unbelievable!

shoot I think he's even quoting some Zappa and ofcourse all of it in a distinct "After Hendrix Died" atmosphere.

outstanding. I'm shocked I never heard this guy.

    PS Pete Cosey!

  • this guy is simply phenomenal. he's quoting Mclaughlin and Santana on the fly without batting an eye, all sunk in a medley of Mahavishnu and Bop progressions.

    wow.

I'm listening to a whole lot of Arthur Rhames for a good long while.

    thanx for posting.

  • i posted some audio from prospect park check it out

  • I've posted this before on a guitar but watch Art's hands at 0:54: it's like watching ocean waves moving undersea plants but in fast motion. I've never seen another player do anything remotely like that before. Off the hook? More like off the planet.

  • This cat is bananas. His patterns and the way he just loose. That sh*t is crazy. I heard he'll do that to you on sax and piano too. That must have hurt a lot of peoples feelings lol .

  • Crimeny, this is so great. Like looking under a dusty curtain and finding piles of gold just sitting there. Wonderful. Cool to see Arthur with a Gibson L6-S. I had one of those too but I could never make it sound like THAT. Good grief! The intensity.

  • I was at a recording session in Woodstock, NY in the mid '80's with Arthur on alto and tenor and John Esposito on piano. Anytime I had seen him play he was always searching for different things to play, not relying on licks. The great saxophonist Clifford Jordan told me he was known in NY as "marathon man" because he would go to sessions and blow everybody away on guitar, sax and piano.

  • This is staggeringly great music. Thank you so much for posting this!!!

  • Amazing! It's great to finally see and hear Arthur on guitar.

Vernon Reid has spoken very highly of his musicianship in a few interviews I've read. Due to the rarity of his recorded work I had very little hope actually hearing any of his music.

Thanks for posting this here. Hopefully theres more to come!

  • In harmony , as all spirits aspire to be. You sound like you have a beautiful spirit and i am proud to say a single tape of the central park show served/serves as a foundation of my style. You should release some of your post eternity stuff s well!!

  • Thanks for your kind words, The memories and legacy of those days is my inspiration to better understand embracing the moments lived these days. I can only feel extremely blessed to have been a part of that piece of history. Particularly because of the impact it had on the lives of others like yourself. I think that's what's most important to me above all, looking back. I will release some of my current music and re-release my first album from 1982 called Remember where you came from as well.

  • I'd say what you gleaned from the storyline was my inability and lack of desire to deal with the reality that Adrian would not be playing in the band at this important period in Eternity's life. Quite true, however God's plan allowed Collin Young the drum seat in Eternity during this period of time so I had to move on with Collin and make it work. These days Adrian Collin and I are all good Friends, We share an appreciation for being blessed to have been a part of a great piece of history. Cleve

  • Cleve, you are right. You guys were and are Jazz Fusion. Thanks for the opportunity to check this out. And I look forward to having the opportunity to be of assistance in Stick grips. Regards, Jud.

  • it seems like you dont have a lot of positive vibes for Collin Young.just wondering

  • uhmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!

    ABSOLUTELY!!!!!

    saxmachine aka funkydonkey

  • The Divine Masters!!!!! Nuff SaID!!!!!!

  • Thank you for the post Cleve. It has always been impossible to describe Arthur's talent on guitar, so many only knew of his sax work.

  • check out dynamic duo. Rashied Ali Arthur Rhames duo. i think its on ayler records. he plays tenor and piano. incredible musician. there is also an obscure arthur rhames record that I was told was just average. A great musician. I had never heard him on guitar, or playing rock till now. Thanks

  • I just checked your site, very nice start, am keen to see it progress.

  • !!! Thank you sooo much! I just chanced on an old Vernon Reid interview and he said something about this Arthur Rhames guy, thanks to that and yourself, I have just found some truly inspirational music but am at a loss to explain how I feel about the fact that I had to go back 3 decades to find it. Many Thanks

  • I understand your feelings. I felt a need to do something about filling in this piece of history for future generations. I had a dream of finding the greatest musicians around. Drummer Adrian Grannum was my second find, Arthur Rhames my third via a Trumpeter named Winslow who introduced us. Collin Young later replaced Adrian as a result of a restriction imposed by his father. Adrian and Arthur both processed phenomenal levels of ability, they were super musicians.

  • Oh yes indeed, Do you by chance, know where I can find any of Arthurs recordings? I cant seem to find any. Lil help? thanks

  • I am so honored to be alive and see Arthur,Collins and Cleve showing the world how talented they were as a group on video. It is here for the world to see because of the wonderful spirit of Cleve. I am eternally grateful. I saw Arthur before he left us and I know for a fact he is smiling!!!!!

  • Arthur was a great, super musician...

He was honest in his music and a one of a kind musician. For a musician of his ability to not gain the recognition he deserved, says alot about this country(USA), and the jazz establishment in particular.

  • As for music not getting proper recognition, Flash some fluff, keep it smooth & creamy, Finally, force feed via mass media and viola, people turn into cattle. We should always question the intent of those who perpetuate this mentality. Greats like Arthur Rhames live and die virtually unknown regularly. The good thing is that we're talking about it while remembering greats like Arthur Rhames through rare footage like this. Communication is important. Thanks for the post.

  • The true DIVINE MASTERS!!!.... ETERNITY..., The truth will now be SEEN AND HEARD! Peace and Blessings to a Eternal SOUL BROTHER, ARTHUR RHAMES... A Genius of Eternal Sound! A Special Thank u to Cleave Alleyne!
