This movie gets a huge minus: The dialogues are the boring modern mental social nonsense about poverty, famine and all those vanities; and the actors are proletarians dimwits wrapped up in the garments of 16th century nobles! Is it so hard to write something profound or even poetical? Shakespeare could do it and so Byron still, but then it must have been lost and so plays and movies (as a movie is nothing more than a filmed play) have become very boring and shallow.

Bonham Carter has exactly the same halting facial expressions in whatever role she plays...'A Room with a View'....'Sweeney Todd'...this role - she always pouts and gives nervous, histrionic glances to left and right. I do wonder who was the first to credit her with being a great actress. If being instantly recognisable in the way she acts qualifies her as such, then she is undoubtedly a fine actress.
