The truth is Far Right not Conservative Libertarian Republicans not do believe in a form of "Big Government". Not the Socialist Democratic form of "Big Government" like Socialist Democrats. But a Right Wing form of "Big Government" where Social Freedom is limited.

All you to do to believe that is to look at the positions that Far Right Conservatives have taken on Gay Marriage, DODT and Marijuana Legalization. Plus their Hypocrites when they talk about Federal Spending.

Who cares!!!! The only thing that matters now, is that both parties spend like drunken sailors and the federal government has encroached on all aspects of our life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. The constitution is a document of limitations for a reason, given the choice between liberty and power, government's leaders throughout history will ALWAYS choose power. We are blessed now though, because of our constitution, we the people, have the ability to reverse the power grab.

Small government rhetoric coming from the Republicans makes no sense, either politically, culturally or even economically, and appears to be primarily a ploy to get support for tax cuts for the rich and deregulation of corporations from gay-haters, anti-feminists, religious fundies, etc.

That's not "small government", okay?

This analysis is flawed. Republicans have not been good enough at reigning in spending but one needs to look at who controlled congress and who sponsored the bills. Most Republican Presidents have been faced with Democrat congresses. One of the reasons Bill Clinton did not blowout the debt can be attributed to a strong GOP congress pushing for Welfare reform and a Balanced budget. Reagan and Bush I had a Democrat congress. GW Bush had 9-11. The devil is in the details.

Federal spending has increased more under G.W. Bush and the Dennis Hastert congress more than any other congress or president in history. 21st century Republicans aren't for smaller government.

The CATO Institute published a report noting that total government spending had grown by 33 percent in President Bush's first term, the largest increase ever. This was DURING A REPUBLICAN CONTROLLED CONGRESS.

Further, the justification that "The Democrats did it too" does not make it right. True Conservatives favor limited government. Republicans are NOT TRUE CONSERVATIVES.

as a self proclaimed conservative, i did watch this and (mostly) agree, only differing on that republicans spend more (it's less but close and way too much) and also i think that there are significant differences in where we spend it, ie demacratic philosophy is to spend and repulican philosophy (though not reality) is not to. So, dems have corruption and support but republicans just have corruption.

2-You want the gold standard back? The gold standard caused our great depression. People couldn't get their money from the banks because once the banks ran out by paying out to the first 100 people, the next 900 people just got to and empty bank because the government couldn't print more money until we mined more gold. Notice please that your numbers do not take any notice of foreign affairs, tax policy (tax increase/new legislation ect), or federal reserve actions. There could be a corrilation, but you did not show it in this film other then increased spending and a Republican President. The problem with that is it over generalizes the Republican monentay policy and your reasoning is a fundemental fallicy. There is no sharp differene between the two prime parties. That was the point of this video pretty much. Everyone knows the Democrats spend, but the Republicans have the misconception of spending less, which is absolutely false. And I believe I did mention the Federal Reserve in here - how they're a Central Bank that prints an excessive amount of dollars rather then raising taxes, for example. Tax policy and foreign affairs are government actions, which, again, usually increases taxes too.

Government interventionism in the economy caused the Great Depression. High tariffs, the creation of the Federal Reserve causing high inflation, artifically lowering interest rates, mass printing of the dollar after World War 1, etc.

And to seal the case, the 1913 dollar is worth $0.03 now.

Correction: tariffs ALWAYS reduce the wealth of nations in the long run. The reason Japan has such powerful export companies is because it imposed tariffs on certain industries awhile ago, shielding them from competition.

Everyone else paid the price (literally) until those companies got on their feet and now Japan has powerful companies that they alone can tax, instead of multinationals which are quicker-forming but less valuable to a government once they mature.
