  • Beautiful song.............

  • MK doesn't need the tremolo bar to make it sound good

  • Comment removed

  • Listen to the version by MK and HM it's brilliant and telling...

  • Lo mas grande Hank Marvin ese punteo de gitarra es UNICO..........

  • Comment removed

  • Mark must love this as one of his hero's is paying him homage.

  • How can any one say that Hank Marvin concidring his talent and the Legendary Musicians he inspired. Is Not the Most Important Guitarist in Rock History. Hank And The Shadows are Rock and Roll Period.

  • Great work from Bruce Welsh...

  • The only honour that could be greater than having The Shad's cover one of your songs, is if the king himself rose up from his grave and did it.

  • Please, do not turn rock music, especially the best of it, into Lawrence Welk, please!

    You turned gold into iron...

  • @peppersdog1

In the documentary with Mark Knopfler, he said that Hank Marvin was his inspiration. It's from the Get lucky documentary "A life in songs"

  • HAKK MARVIN, THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HEARD YOU PLAY. YOU ARE DEFINATELY AN ACCOMPLISHED MUSCIAN. I GUESS I HEARD YOU BEFORE BUT DID NOT KNOW WHO YOU WERE WHEN YOU PLAYED FOR SIR CLIFF RICHARD. GOD BLESS YOU!

  • rubbish...not a patch on the original

  • @peppersdog1 You wouldn't know a great guitar player if one jumped up and bit you on the ass. Hank Marvin is Mark Knopfler's inspiration.

  • @jimincairns fortunatly i dont listen through my arse you fucking retard

  • @peppersdog1 I guess you don't, because It'd be too hard to listen through your arse and talk through it at the same time.

    Ohh, and learn to spell.

  • Playing this clean is not easy. When I first heard Hank I thought he was playing "easy" pieces. As I continued to explore this guitarist I realize what I am hearing is pure and classic and it is a tone and style he shares with few others. Clean and pure is NOT easy.

  • I prefer this version to Knopflers

  • you guys so talented to do music like this....good composition of mark knopfler and good rendition/version of the shadows...

  • this is awful

  • bruce on paras!

  • It turned out that this was'nt the last tour, they toured last year with Cliff, the 50th anniversary tour.

  • I think they've really dumbed down the synthesizer in the intro. It's nowhere near as good as in the album version.

  • Nice one Hank and guys. Enjoyed your music since I was a young lad listening to Apache.

  • Well done..RWB

  • Its never going to be as good as the original, but its still good, and don't forget without Hank, there would be no Mark Knopfler.

  • O dear.... mr Marvin, what have you done?

the composition was perfect as it was!

You've taken the soul out of a masterpiece...

  • Fantastic version . For i love it .

  • this is a lovely tune by the hank marvin and the shadows my wifes late husband Lord roland beare used to play this tune and it is still well loved in this house.

  • yes yes !!!! this is it !!!

  • Hank rules! But I got a little chuckle when Bruce slighly moves into the camera view at 1:57-2:02. Hey, if the camera man isn't giving you some shots, just move into the field of view! I like it, Bruce! A little cheezy, but you rock too! ;)

  • how to ruin a great piece of music in one go..let hank play it...im not saying hank is bad but there is no comparison between mark and hanks version...

  • This tune really displays what an excellent rhythm guitarist BW is. Incomparable!

  • Sorry, the credit should be given to Hank Marvin here and not Bruce Welch

  • SHADOWS FOR EVER !

    jusqu'à mon dernier souffle...

  • i reckon hank's wife would be jealous because he has a love affair with that red guitar which is timeless he talks to it and it talks back to him. a genius, a gentleman, and an entertainer , simply the best

  • Great love this version, now this guy can play and he is a hero. Love Knopfler's to its brill

  • So sweet...a truly winner style melody indeed :)

  • HANK MARVIN is the best . he has his own sound .

these heavy rock guitarists that get all these credits in voting pols are laughable. most of them sound the same .

HANK your out on your own . just a genius who understands what playing is about

  • splendid..Love Hank Marvin version

  • grandioso!!!

  • alex & norway...knobheads!...thats your opinion not mine...OK..

  • I love Knopfler's original version, and he did write it, while at the same time keeping in mind that Hank Marvin is his hero and the reason he picked up the Fender Strat in the first place...

  • whos mk?? r u stupid or something?

  • omg how old are you 6????? or heaf you been in a deep coma sinds the 50tis and just woke up in 2009 noeb

  • spookymoo..YOU are spot on!..the shadows were the FIRST and made thousands learn to play the guitar...and NO one has copied their unique sound...HANK MARVIN...GENIUS

  • I prefer this version than Knopflers. But thats me.

  • ajam

  • Marvellous!!!

    grandma mary

  • This is The Shadows, they are a guitar instrumental band, they don't have a sax player, they interpret and play music in their own style.

If you want to hear it played like Mark Knopfler, listen to Mark Knopfler's version.

They are completely different, but they are both great versions in their own right.

  • Sax or no Sax can anyone doubt the fabulous full rhythm style of Bruce Welch

  • I really hate to say this as i have so much respect for Marvin's influence on an entire generation of guitarists, but I do think this just sounds a bit... empty, when compared with Knopfler's recording - in my opinion it really does need the sax, just to give the extra kick to that chorus

  • Agree! Definitely needs the sax part to fill the melody out as it does soundd a bit hollow w/o it.

  • Any musician can do a cover version his own way and comparing with the original is rubbish as long as the cover is good and this is GOOD. The tune makes your hair stand on end when you hear it on the terraces at St James Park, whichever Geordie, Knopfler or Marvin plays it !

  • Marvin is a living legend. So much better than some of the shit guitarists doing the rounds today. He has inspired all the greats from Clapton, Knopfler, Brian May etc. If you actually play the guitar you have to respect his talent. If you don't play, then you have no clue what you are talking about

  • Absolutely fabulous!

  • please dont destroy any other song plz

  • You have got to remember that Hank doesn't Finger Pluck, he always uses a plectrum. hence the reason why the tune doen't really "jell". This needs played Knopler style without a plectrum.

  • Compare this to Mark Knopfler @ Monserrat and you weep. Only Mark knows, feel and plays the song how it should be. This is pathetic.

  • SHITE,UTTER SHITE.

  • excellent

  • Springfield Road

  • MARVINS THE BEST . his sound is simply awesome.

i cant name a more influential or more listened to guitarist and you can chuck loads of names at me. this guy still fills halls after 50 years no argument really is there

  • A Legend, thats all that has to be said.

Ricky the riff.God bless you Hank, thanks for happy days...

  • thanks for agreeing!

  • he has inspired my fave guitarists

  • Very nice number & seeing Hank & the shadows now is absolutely amazing!

    I say bravo & 5 stars.

  • This is a disgrace, surely if you want to copy a track the idea is to do it better, Hank and his boys have well and truely crucified this track, shame on them.

  • Crap! HBM has improved it!

  • The first 4 letters of your reply says it all.

  • HANK MARVINS THE MAN. never been a guitarist with his sound thats why hes where he is still the tops.

best sounding guitarist with the best instrumental group ever the SHADOWS.

    Love MARK KNOFLER THOUGH

  • Jimmy Page, David Gilmour, Eric C & many many more British Guitarist's took up the axe because of this man. In truth as kids they all wanted to play Hank.

    Respect to this great man

  • Do you think they will play it the upcoming tour?

  • Hank uses a fender squire, am i right?

  • no:P

  • what tyhen, noob

  • Hank plays a Fender Stratocaster

  • falta el saxo de chris white

  • Hank Marvin is awesome but Mark Knopfler is the greatest guitarist who ever lived....

    Rock On, Mark!!!!!!!!

  • Hi Keith,

I have to agree with you, Mark's version is much better, he puts more of himself into the piece. No comparison really, awesome tune.

  • They're both very different styles and they're both fantastic. But Hank gets my vote as he was FIRST !!!

In the early 60s nobody had ever heard a guitar being played like this and when I first heard them they blew my mind - I was eleven at the time and I don't think I've ever recovered.... :-)

  • Bollocks!!

  • i love hank's tecnique at 1:34 gives me a shiver down my spine

  • Don´t forget Cliff Hall and Mark Griffith!

  • Bruce Welch must be the greatest Rhythm guitarist alive today

  • love it

  • This reminds me of my Granddad, who died last year.

  • Awesome :O

  • I love Mark Knopfler, but this is just as good!

  • Two different guitarists from two different eras - both class !

  • what a compliment to knopfler..Hank playimg his version 2 of the best guitarists in the world who is better well you decide

  • in my opinion this captures the mood perfect, play on hank marvin and hte shadows, play on

nowt compared to the knopfler verson though but still... pretty good

  • A great guitarist. o.k in my opinion dire strait's version was better but this is still bloody good. top stuff!

  • Just a thought for 8888sam and 70srokrulz; Did MK invite either of you to play on the tour then? Thought not!

  • knopfler is way better...

  • mark knopfler is way better/ this guy isnt even in his leage but then again who is?

  • He was in his league as he played together

with Mk in 1985. There are 2 things in the worlds which are endless: the human stupidity and the univers. About the 2nd one, I'm not really sure....

    Thanks for posting MK76

  • Mark Knopfler would not agree. Believe me.

  • thats do to the fact that he's so modest but knopfler's the best his compations are way better then marvin and his guitar playing is no match for anyone

  • If he isn't in the same league as Mark Knopfler, why then did M K especially invite him on the "Brothers in Arms" tour, just to play this number. Please check your facts. Also read who M K attributes his success as a guitar player to. That's right - Hank Marvin! Oh! What a surprise!

  • Yes,

Mark always wanted a red electric guitar as a kid.. Because of Mark's hero (hank b marvin) had a red electric guitar...

So, Mark was a huge fan of hank b marvin in his early years...

  • Thats why he does not waste his time on You Tube.(or live in NORWAY)

  • great stuff thanks for posting
