I have this exact same motor. I have been having trouble with it staying running. It will go for about a minute in forward and then bogg down and die on me. It does fine in neutral, but not in drive. Any idea what could be going on? thanks.
@itfliesitdies123 Check the ignition make sure the coils aren't cracked and clean and set the points, if it still acts up invest in a rebuild kit for the carb.
I just found this exact motor in my grandpa's shop. It had been sitting on its side for over 14 years! I replaced the old fuel hose and it started right up. I now run it on the lake all the time and it is a first pull engine. Slow for sure, but I love it!
@deerein15 This was my 2nd Evinrude and it's my GF's favorite. Quiet, smooth running, and easy to start, there's a reason why OMC made them from 1954 to 1964 and only made slight changes to them that whole time.
I have the 1963 version of this Evinrude. Its a sweet little more and runs perfect. I call it my troll master as it trolls better then any motor I have ever used.
Just don't run them lean on oil and they will last forever. I no longer have this one but I have a '55 and '56 version of it. The fiberglass cowled ones are a little quieter but they all run just as good.

@longhornation I run my motors on a 24:1 ratio, some people run theirs on 16:1.
