I think rebellion is good, laws would not be broken if they were completely fair, rebel's do a good job (some of the time) at pointing out the ones (laws) that are the most unjust. Plus UNLV's (University of Nevada Las Vegas) mascot is the Rebel, being from Vegas I always kind of felt like I should be a rebel, what with parents and family always pressing the issue of going to college. So yeah, not every rebel is successful but truly, is it not the thought that matters?
My youthful rebellions were stupid, but part of my growing process. In general, rebellions mean progress(or social calamity!) A stupid rebellion in the US was Prohibition. Lastly I'll say I'm a rebel at the wheel! Great comments, Andy, hard to add to the list!
Hahaha! I think stupidity is an integral part of rebeliousness. It's almost the whole point. Which can only mean that sometimes, under the right circumstances, and when done properly and for all the right reasons (even if they're wrong) stupidy isn't completely NOT the correct choice of action. Or something like that ;-)
See, it's amazing how much you can fit in under two minutes!
However, onto the question. I think the world has seen plenty of stupid rebels, some of which have eft a trail of death and destruction behind them, but then there are freedom fighters, civil rights activists, artists, and inventors who have all rebelled against the status quo to create a better world in some way or another.
Isn't it annoying to have to be balanced sometimes?!
For me this video was an act of rebellion against their normal length.
I always try & be balanced. After all, if you're not, you'll often lose an argument. If you want to win an argument, you have to understand the other sides point of view. it's easier to disprove it then :)
I think it has a bit to do with the reasons for rebellion. If it's rebellion for the sake of rebellion then it's probably more stupid than anything. However, sometimes rebellion is productive.
if you stick to your convictions & don't sell out...
you're called stubborn (by some) - if someone warns you that if you stick a knife in a wall socket - you might get shocked and you do it anyway - now that's stupid...
With your daughter - she thought you were doing something she deemed dangerous - I'd say her call was very mature. ;)
Ultimately though, I'd be rather labeled a rebel than a sheep....although most of my family & friends just call me stubborn!! LOL
I thought you were walking backwards to prove you ARE a rebel! I love your daughter's observation. It is wise. Where would we be, though, without rebels in our midst? We would all blindly be marching along in the same rhythm to the beat of the same drum. Can you imagine a world without the swivel of Elvis' hips, or the fierce leadership of Churchill, or Spartacus rallying the slaves? Sometimes, we just have to take the path that is risky, a little scary, and delightfully satisfying! - roc
Think of John & Yoko's bed-in for peace. They knew their wedding & honeymoon would turn into a media circus, so they threw the joke back on the media by turning it into a 'Bed Peace" demonstration.
This seemingly silly act turned what would have been gossip-column coverage of their wedding into front page discussion about ending a war.
It's not being stupid about rebelling that's a danger. It's not having a purpose behind your stupidity.
I think that rebellion is important in many cases such as political rebellion against an unfair/unjust or overruling government. On other terms, rebellion of teenagers against parents in some cases can be stupid as they might gain little and have to pay a high price for it.
Rebelling just to rebell without thinking is, yep, kinda dumb.
But standing up against something or at least questioning authority for the purpose of clarification and authenticity IS good. When we get to the point where even that is a punishable offense, we've lost our way.

You're right. Rules are usually broken because they just don't work for some people.
Although rules are needed, there are often far too many of them. Unjust, or just plain stupid rules need to be exposed. Rebels do that for us :)
andymooseman 2 years ago
There really isn't a book or set of rules on rebellion, so often it's trial-and error, and sometimes there really isn't a method to the madness.
That being said, the stupidity of rebellion is often determined by what side of the line you're on. Stupidity is frequently a matter of perspective.
DILLIGAF333 2 years ago
The whole point of rebellion is often to rip up any rule books that exist. if there were a rebels handbook, i'm sure we'd see far more rebellions.
Yep, stupidity does often depend on which side of the fence you are on :)

There have been some great comments on this video haven't there. Some of those spur of the moment videos get the best response.
A rebel at the wheel. I like that :)

It's my day off. I just want to relax and avoid anything stupid or rebellious... I get enough of that at work :)

I think it's different when it's you being stupid & rebellious. Thats allowed :)

I like that kind of seemingly warped logic. That appeals to me. not sure why, but it does.
Maybe thats my inner stupidity coming out? :)

Rebellion is fine and fun. Till you give 'em guns.

Rebellions are very often productive, but i take your point.
Having said that though. Sometimes things need to be shaken up little, just to show that things don't have to remain the same :)

Depends on the circumstances...

I'm often called stubborn as well, especially by my wife!
But, like you i'd rather be a rebel than a sheep. I like to stir things up a little :)

If you rebel against the machine, the operator of the machine will surely find you stupid. I guess it depends on your perspective:-)

Just because they may think you stupid doesn't make you wrong :)
andymooseman 2 years ago
I think it allways depends on which side of it you are on.

I have a feeling i'd be on the side of the rebel most of the time :)

Great comment & very true too.
We need rebels, if only to annoy those in charge :)
andymooseman 2 years ago
Being a rebel is great when it succeeds and its stupid when it fails and people around you get hurt.
Its no coincidence history is written by the winners of wars :-)

you base your whole life on thinking what is right and wrong.we cant do it anyother way.

the only thing that matters is what you think.

there is no answer to that question.

only when I put on a dress!

Sometimes the best way to rebel is to be a clown.
Think of John & Yoko's bed-in for peace. They knew their wedding & honeymoon would turn into a media circus, so they threw the joke back on the media by turning it into a 'Bed Peace" demonstration.

That's a good example Ken & i didn't realise that's why John & Yoko did that.
Love that final quote too :)

I guess the trick is knowing when you're being a rebel and when you're just being stupid.

I think there can be a fine line between rebel & stupid sometimes :)

Your a rebel in your own mind! lol
Quite a smart observation on your daughters part...

Yes, i suppose i can't content myself by thinking that way.
Not much gets past my daughter. i don't know where she gets it from? :)

Here, let's remedy that...
