Voltes was originally planned as the direct sequel to Combattler. That's why're they're just so similar. Daimos built on Voltes's emphasis on character-driven stories though.
@ThePuppet with Combattler V and Voltes V , Daimos forms the 'Romance Trilogy' - they have the same director in Nagahama, and this is often referenced when they are together in video games like Super Robot Wars.

Combattler's spinning attack is the STUPIDEST finisher of all time. God, I loathe this robot.
In contrast, Voltes V has one of the best finishers ever. You can't get more visceral and vicious than slicing your "V" initial into your enemy to kill him.
that's your opinion and i respect that but voltes v did make a tribute to the chodenji spin and so did daimos...sort of (used the double blizzard on itself to enhance the power of his finisher
