I don't know if anyone mentioned this, but reggae singer Alton Black (r.i.p.) did his rendition of this song....I've loved this song as a child,as I do NOW..
I think Michael McDonald is black for real LOL!!! Him, Bobby Caldwell ((the guy that sang What You Wont Do For Love)) and Hall and Oates. Before I get a lotta hate responses I was jus playin
The original written and sung by Siedah Garrett is a great song, and I like it just a little better, but I was really happy to see the song get the recognition it really deserved once sung by two of the greatest singers of all time.
Such a beautiful and moving song! Aretha looks amazing here, the best I've ever seen her! Michael Mc Donald! That voice of his! Simply AMAZING! Love u Michael!
@TheGemini90 Thank you for the info, I appreciate it. I was going to guess the Autumn of one of those years, but that may have just been when my area's radio stations re-discovered it. Hard to believe this is almost 20 years old, though, happier and more peaceful times for sure. Thanks again.
@67marlins It was popular around 1988, as the theme song for the movie "Baby Boom" starring Diane Keaton. The version in the movie was sung by Siedah Garrett, who does a fine job, too.
@tvbabay Thank you for the info, although another person below answered me that it was on the R & B charts in March 1992. I'm sure you are both right, maybe it was just re-discovered and revived in 1992. I keep thinking the first time I heard this was in the Fall, my favorite time of year. Thank you again, great memories and beautiful songs for sure.....
4 ova a yr i have bin tryin to think of this song... no 1 could hlp... i was so plsd to fin find it... Ilove it..love it..ply it sev times a day...glad you all love it 2...
@rdavids1000 I feel you on this one my mom had passed away on January 29th 1992 and I would sit in my room after and reflect how she changed into someone I did not recognize from the cancer and that was very hard for me and I know it must have been for you and I started to reflect on all the things I wanted to do with my mom.Life can be cruel but God has bigger plans for them and we have to let them go.
kind of sucks that this song was more memorable than the movie it was in - Baby Boom- stuck in my mind for years and I had no clue who was singing until now. Lovely...
Siedah Garrett originally did this song, even though for years i thought it was Carly Simon because something about it reminds me of Coming around again.
Aretha and Michael did a great job with this song...that white man can sing!
ESSA VOZ É UM VERDADEIRO PATRIMÔNIO CULTURAL DA HUMANIDADE... ARTISTAS COMO ARETHA FRANKLIN ENALTECEM NOSSO ORGULHO NEGRO!!! I LOVE YOU.GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!!!
I'll never forget this song. It came out when my grandmother died. It's like music and life experiences are teaching you how to deal with what's going on currently if you listen and pick up on it. This reminds me that there is something guiding everyone. No matter what you may call it.
This was one of those songs I just remember as a kid riding in the afternoon with my mom. It always stuck with me cause they didn't over play it and it was very relaxing.

I've always loved it, but it seemed to never last long enough on the radio.
Thanks for posting, btw.

@67marlins March 7, 1992 is my guess of when it peaked at #19 on the R&B Chart, so early 1992 was when it was a modest hit on radio.
