wow lol i have three of these little robot action things (the purple, red, and yellow suits) and never new what they were haha.. never knew they were a show.
so what the hell do i do? watch the platinum series then end of evangelion? just forget death and rebirth. say i want to watch in order (excluding rebuild for now)
@Zadeass Watch platinum skip episodes 25 and 26, watch director's cuts of episodes 21-24 which is on the last disc of the platinum and finally watch End Of Evangelion.
"The fate of destruction is also the joy of rebirth" IF you look at "the big picture" the ending isnt that sad, remember this means that everyone will get a chance to come back to life!
dam does anyone besides me think that this is seriously messed the fucked up if you watch the entire show its really messed up but shows alot of "realistic" concepts"
down with the dubs. dubs are the gayest things in the world. this movie(and episodes) definately made me think a little too much due to the internal conflicts of shinji.. the conclusion was rather vague. you can call this the anime of mona-lisa. it's just what it is. the meaning behide the crazy fights? YOU decide.
@jackrom75 its all about preferences mate. I personally like the japanese cast option because its more authentic and works well in a JAPANESE setting. if NGE was set in another country, I wouldn't mind it in English
if u like neon genesis is not can it's must !! i have all the collectors and to have it i spent 400 euro it's 572 dollars but im crazy for neon genesis and i can't live without
Death and Rebirth is divided into two halves- "Death" and "Rebirth". Death is basically a recap of the episodes, and "Rebirth" is the first part of End of Evangelion.
Basically, there is no point in owning it.
And one should certainly not watch the recap in Death INSTEAD of the episodes. You really need to watch the series in its entirety to appreciate how incredible it is. You won't get much from a short recap besides self-contained plot.
Nah. "Death" is a very, very short recap of episodes 1-24. Do you mean the "creators" basically said one should watch Death INSTEAD of the episodes? That sounds pretty ridiculous, to be honest. In fact, it's just wrong. Where did it say that on the DVD? Don't tell me it's something that fool Matt Greenfield cooked up...
Hmm... well, I don't know. "The way Evangelion was meant to be seen" sounds sort of like the American distribution company's big-talk than anything Anno would have said. After all, Death is basically no more than episodes 1-24 stripped down to the barest essentials, without all of the richness of characterisation, etc.
But I'm not totally sure, either! Maybe Anno did say something to that effect... who knows! :D
The movie is depressing. But the Show's ending is happy. But you have to admit how original answer well thought out the philosophy is in this anime. Besides, that can't be enough reason to call it bad.
No. The movie ending was done pretty much to stop the fans from whining about the T.v. ending. The show and the movie go through the same phases at one point but they're completely different. Spoiler-
Shinji accepts the instumentality in the show but rejects it in the movie. The endings are not the same at all.
Actually no. They are congradulating him at the end of the TV series because he came full circle and realized that there are people who want him. Which is something that he realizes at the end of End of Evangelion, you would know this if you pay very close attention.
The last two episodes show Shinji within the instumentality talking to the minds of the show's cast. At the end, Whilst still in the instumentality Shinji yells out, "I can exist HERE!" It obvious that he meant the instumentality since he was there for two episodes. And to have said "here" instead of "I can exist!". In the EoE at the end while talking to his mother he says "I still don't know who I am or what I'm hear for." and then goes on to say "I am... Myself."
He has realized that his existence is stupid to question because he is himself and nothing more. He doesn't realise his worth within the entire movie. He does mature a bit while rejecting the instumentality and saying it's a false happiness. But there are no signs of self worth or acceptance of one's self. You would know this if you paid very close attention.
This may be your opinion but I think this is wrong. Both endings are in the same phase of the plot, correct.
However, both endings are also the same. He accepts himself and rejects Instrumentality in both endings.
The movie ending is less optimistic but in the TV series, it explictly shows Shinji accepting himself. The movie reveals that Shinji started the Third Impact and let it happen because he wanted everyone to die.
It's never said that he did reject the instrumentality in the T.V. series. I still have to stress that he said, "I can exist HERE!" while he was in the Instrumentality in the last episode.
I see where you are coming from but it seems that there are reports of Gainax employees stating that both endings are just different points of view of the same scenario: Instrumentality.
These may be false but the evidence seems overwhelming. Still, your opinion on this is a interesting one that merits some thought.
Well, I think things like this should be ask to Hedeki Anno. He created the series so I think he's the one who should be asked this type of question. I could be wrong, of course. Evangelion is too ambiguous to be "de coded" so easily.
Its not that the movie ending is less optimistic, its just the way its shown looks depressing. If you look really close, and I mean REALLY close, you can see how it can be viewed as uplifting.
@GOODPLAYA20 Well, I guess it KIND OF means that humanity is given a second chance, but maybe not, as I don't remember the corruption of people being a central theme in Evangelion. Also, on another note entirely, think about Shinji and Asuka's inevitable children. Won't their children have to have intercourse with each other in order to reproduce? Doesn't that make messed up babies? That's a problem with the original Adam and Eve story, though. Still, it makes little sense.
@GOODPLAYA20 Yes, he interacts with people who have gone through Instrumentality. However, look at the last few moments of the movie where Shinji and Asuka stand in the aftermath of Third Impact. Kind of depressing, isn't it? Imagine what their lives will be like from now on. How will they survive when there are no plants or animals in sight and the ocean has been replaced by LCL?
@GOODPLAYA20 OOPS! Sorry. Apparently my brother signed in his account. See, I'm actually Rezindez. Yes, he interacts with people who have gone through Instrumentality. However, look at the last few moments of the movie where Shinji and Asuka stand in the aftermath of Third Impact. Kind of depressing, isn't it? Imagine what their lives will be like from now on. How will they survive when there are no plants or animals in sight and the ocean has been replaced by LCL?
@GOODPLAYA20 Yeah, dude, Shinji is shown in the movie to make the same choice of living in the real world- hence him giving everyone the choice to exit Instrumentality and doing so with Asuka.
@GOODPLAYA20 ye, technically, everyone who didnt die before 3rd impact and all that bs with nerv technically are back right? not just shinji and asuka
i really like thatr shot of toji clenching his fist at 2:38. it really gives him some importance you know and i actually feel for him instead of laying him off as annoying

You can buy the DVD.

alright I'll put that on my wish list. Say does it come in subtitles?
neutronhomer12 2 years ago
The dub is better, but DVDs usually have the original Japanese cast option with subtitles.

i'd recommend the original japanese cast though, not to say that the dub is worse, but MAYBE it shows more emotion than the dub
okay i've probably gone off topic here heheh
