Epeiros was then drug into conflict with Cassander, when Alexander's wife Roxanna and his only son supported the Epirote's campaign against Cassander. Only under strong miltaristic kings such as Pyrrhos did the Epirote kingdom extend very far into Illyrian territory, such as the occupation of Epidamnos (now Durres). Apollonia (now about 2 miles west of Fier) was the northernmost major settlement of Epeiros.
To clarify, the Molossian Epirotes are extinct. It took Epeiros as a region hundreds of years to recover from the devastation caused by the Molossian alliance with Macedon during the defensive war against Rome. Some of the Chaonians and Thesprotians may have survived, as they allied with Rome against the Molossians and favored an early surrender.
Albanians don't have any relation to the Molossian tribe of Epirotes of which Olympias and Alexander III are descended from. Even if we assume that modern Albanians have any connection to the Albanoi, they were a tribe that lived in the remote regions of what is now Croatia and Bosnia to resist the Romanization of Illyria. @chutrra his mother was of course from epirus..which was not illyrian Epirus, it was never part of Illyria, it existed as a separate Greek-speaking kingdom that was always at war with Illyrians, even though Illyrians lived in Epirus, they never built anything on it.

Epeiros was then drug into conflict with Cassander, when Alexander's wife Roxanna and his only son supported the Epirote's campaign against Cassander. Cassander won and subsequently had Roxanna and young Alexander Aegis killed. It wasn't until Pyrrhos, a hostage in the Diadochi wars had befriended Ptolemy of Egpyt, and with his support, liberated Epeiros and invaded Macedonia twice, then marched against the Romans and very nearly conquered Sicily.

Also, you questioned why Alexander III of Macedon did not march against Epeiros. The Illyrians had just pillaged Eperios in a bloody war. King Phillip II seduced the young prince Alexander I Molossus when he had come to the Macedonian court. In exchange, Phillip overthrew Arybbas and instated Alexander to the Epirote throne and from that period forth Epeiros was under Macedonian influence. Alexander Molossus then took his Epirote army and invaded Italy, where he was killed by the Italiots.

The Illyrians were never a unified people in this time period. Only very briefly did any particularly powerful kingdoms achieve a unique political status, such as the Scordisci (who were half Celtic, half Illyrian), the Dardani under Bardyllis, and the Ardiaei under Agron.
Pliny the Elder, the Roman historian, wrote of a few tribes he called 'Illyria Proper', the Taulantii, Pleraei, Endirudini, Sasaei, Grabaei and Labeatae.

So in summary, the Epirote kingdom has most of its roots in the territory just north of Ambrakia (now Arta) and only the northern regions of Eperios was their an evident combined Greek and Illyrian culture. The Illyrian influence pretty much stopped at Apollonia and only during strong Illyrian invasions did this really shift. The main thing to remember though is that once the Romans came, everything changed. There is very little similarity in modern ethnicity to the situation in the 3rd century.

Expanding upon this, the geographic and political situation of the Kingdom of Epeiros prior to the great Celtic invasions in 280BC, was that the Northernmost reaches of the ancient Kingdom did not extend further than the modern Seman river. Only under strong miltaristic kings such as Pyrrhos did the Epirote kingdom extend very far into Illyrian territory, such as the occupation of Epidamnos (now Durres). Apollonia (now about 2 miles west of Fier) was the northernmost major settlement of Epeiros.

To clarify, the Molossian Epirotes are extinct. It took Epeiros as a region hundreds of years to recover from the devastation caused by the Molossian alliance with Macedon during the defensive war against Rome. Some of the Chaonians and Thesprotians may have survived, as they allied with Rome against the Molossians and favored an early surrender.

Albanians don't have any relation to the Molossian tribe of Epirotes of which Olympias and Alexander III are descended from. Even if we assume that modern Albanians have any connection to the Albanoi, they were a tribe that lived in the remote regions of what is now Croatia and Bosnia to resist the Romanization of Illyria. The Molossian, Chaonian, and Thesprotian Epirotes were massacred and killed by the Romans in the 3rd Macedonian War in 171BC. The Epirotes are extinct, no relation to Albania
