I would like to commend the Police Officers for the way they handled that! Allot of police academies give very little training on handling animals. While it they may sound harsh to threaten to shot the dog, they seem to be saying more to control the drunk driver. These Officers seemed to understand that the dog was just trying to protect it's "owner" & it wasn't the dog's fault that the owner was a dumbass.
It's not the dogs fault. A dog is just like a child, they need to be loved. A dog is the most loyal companion a person could have. Some people take advantage of this and train them to be aggressive. A dog is just doing its duty to protect the ones they love.

A dog is like a family member, so shooting it only would have made that situation worse (considering they already had it restrained). NOW, if he dog was grabbing a hold of the officers neck or arm and was intending to rip it off............that's when you have to shoot.

I had(he pasted away)a 110lbs german boxer and he did the same thing. I got held up at my house, in my driveway by some kids in the bushes. So they came at me and one of them had something in his hand(turned out to be a knife) and Chopper got out of the car and bit the other kid's hand biting off a finger. This was 5 yrs ago. Parents tried to sue but lost and had to pay me instead for "emotional damages". Their kid shouldn't be robbing people. Plain and simple. Shitty parents and kid.

I'm glad to see the officers didn't shoot the dogs, even though the one officer was bitten at least the other officer was able to calmly take control of the dog. The dog did nothing wrong, it was helping defend it's pack that was in an active fight. The only stupid people in this video are the owners. For fighting with the cops in the first place and for letting their dog remain loose inside a vehicle. Always crate/secure a dog inside a vehicle.

Of course, it may have been that the officer felt able to restrain the dog rather than shoot it. Even though it was more effort, it would have made the owner angry (therefore more of a problem) and it also acted as quite a good "hostage" to control the owner.

Truth be told. If the owner wouldn't have resisted the officer, this would have never happened. If I were to get into a scuffle though, I would expect my dog to protect me if I were in any kind of danger. You wouldn't just stand there and watch your friend get beat up would you? Of course, it may have been that the officer felt able to restrain the dog rather than shoot it. Even though it was more effort, it would have made the owner angry (therefore more of a problem) and it also acted as quite a good "hostage" to control the owner.
