Every single birthday for over the last 20 years I BLAST this song followed by a Day Hike. That is my tradition. Tuesday I will do it again but with a heavier heart. Great song from a great album, no video needed.
Without a doubt among the top ten albums ever! I wore this SOB out in my 8 track in my 1970 Road Runner in the 70's! :) This always takes me back to inside my old bedrrom as a kid with the strob lights and trying to keep up with Denni on my skins! I still have the entire LP dowmloaded on my MP3 player and listen to it often.
"Whether I'm twelve or whether I'm sixty-four, I spend my time like there ain't gonna be no more."
You have to admit that one of the most subjective and ardently passionate thing a person can opine on is music, like or dislike, we lost a great one...Rest in pain free Peace, Ronnie!
@ArchiveRock i just realized that as i was listening tonight.....12 or 64...."spend my time like there aint gonna be no more".... passes at 64....Rock in Peace.
@vivdude Sorry but you're one stupid piece of $%#$! Sammy is a damn good guitarist himself. He's had a great solo career also. How is you career doing dumbass?
@FloraBama Not sure I would call his solo career "great". Ok, maybe, but not great. His greatest success has been with Ronnie and Eddie. People of low intellect resort to profanity when they argue their point. I appreciate you calling me names and showing your intelligence level. How ironic that you call me stupid. It only proves my point. BTW, not that it's relevant at all or any of your business, but my career is just fine, thanks.
@vivdude That's cool! In retrospect I did come across a bit strong, but I will blame it from getting caught up in a back and forth the other day with someone else attacking Sammy. I got caught up in the ad nauseum debate of David Lee Roth or Sammy.
Yes, Sammy is better known for his vocals, but h'e's a decent guitarist. I have seem him solo several times and his Cabo Wabo tours are great. I would say he's Solid rather then OK. He's able to sellout 30 to 35K arenas solo.
@FloraBama Also I have met Sammy before and he's a great guy as I love his Cabo Wabo bar in Cabo San Lucas and I have been there a cuple of times and if Sammy is there he will have a shot with you.
Back in the 80's when founder and vocalist Kerry Livgren left Kansas for a while they offered the gig to Sammy, but he turned it down.. Sammy pretty much lives life the way he wants and I have great respect for the man.
@FloraBama Yeah, I probably under-stated the value of Sammy's presence in Montrose and VH. Caught up in the ridiculousness of the statement that Montrose was all about Sammy. I know Sammy plays a decent axe and is known to be a pretty cool guy. Glad we could both get past the nonsense and state our opinions without venom.
@vivdude Yes in all honesty I never read the other guys post that you were responding to and that is crazy saying it was all about Sammy, Ronnie was the man in Montrose and the others were pretty good too.
As a dummer myself I always really liked Denny Carmassi as he was damn good and later was Heart's drummer for many years. Also Bill Cgurch was a very good bass player and left with Sammy and was Sammy's longtime bass player. Montrose had a lot of talent.
Man this brings back memories. I was about 13 the first time I heard this in 1974. It was really common place to hear anyone of the cuts from this album blaring out of a variety of muscle cars out cruzin on a Friday or Saturday night.
Tommy Chong said Elvis was NOT the king of Rock and Roll, but rather Chuck Berry was. I know that Sammy Hagar is the King of Rock and Roll; or one of many! SAMMY HAGAR FOR PRESIDENT!!!
@andrewkrip It was earlier than '77 but I WAS 16 when I heard this and along with Sabbath, it changed my life. The 70's were the best years to be a teenager EVER, I'm now approaching 54yrs old and still rocking like a nutter.and I'm a massive Slipknot and Deftones fan too! The bottom line is, like what you like, be who you are, love who you are and fuck anyone who doesn't like it!!!!!!

Saw Montrose open for Spooky Tooth and headliner Humble Pie in Savannah in '74. Montrose was clearly the best of the 3. Great show! Saw Sammy several years later at the Silverdome in Pontiac, MI. More fun!
Yep, this sounds exactly how it did when I had the original album. What amazes me is, the sound quality is so poor on the original recording, but for some reason, it never mattered. Still doesn't matter. I love this album.
@Maxid1 This is the original recording, are you sure it wasnt on 8 track, lol.. I have to admit though this does sound pretty good, maybe its been remastered since.
This whole damn record just fricken rocks. Wow, what happened to music? No wonder I'm addicted to the blues now...it never changes into crap, just gets better and mellower with age, like a fine whisky or wine. Not beer, though.
Remember when Ronnie Montrose was the guitarist for the Edgar Winter Group? The best touring rock group in America for pure energy & fun. I'd build a time machine solely for the purpose of going back and wallowing in those concerts.
I saw Montrose last night and would encourage every fan of this album/era to go out and see the most recent incarnation of the band. Ronnie's chops, tone and phrasing are as good as ever and and the band flat out kicks ass. The set list includes every song from this album, plus a couple of others from subsequent albums, including I Got The Fire. Smokin set......

In 80 - This & Montrose was big in Northern Ca (and Hagar lived down the road). I had a class called music appreciatiation in high school and brought this in for my assignment and put on the "chalk-board" the lyrics and the teacher had a "record player" and the class Rocked... and then I had to explain what the lyrics meant to me.... and then drove my 1970 Formula 400 Firebird home

I remember this like yesterday and live by the words today "Make it Last" I went Winter Land San Francisco, CA 1977 on a Friday night in my 1967 Ford Van tickets were $5 bucks was one of the best concerts I ever seen...so damn good! One of my friends said why didn't you tell me you guys were going? I said lets go now as they were playing again on Saturday. Jumped in my Van went again same guys just one dude that missed Friday! wow, how disappointing that montrose gets like 30 thousand views and justin freak bieber gets millions of hits!!! What in the hell has this world come too.... oh and I am not even 30 myself and still know about all this great music!!!!
so it goes ...My friends, I don't see that often, play this album when we get together and drink to the past. They plug up the guitar and pretend and I do the same. Make it LAST.
First time I heard this Album, was sitting in a friends smoke filled car,!! at night, with some other buddies, parked behind a school, and I said.....WHO THE HELL IS THIS!
These guy's rock!! I had no idea this record would become a classic. Thanks for sharing this with us old schoolers.
@gdkangas that's pretty much what I said the first time I heard this album. who the hell is this??? at the time, bad motor scooter was playing and everyone was in awe.
@dlew71662 Although Tesla does many covers, very few "cover bands" have a Top 10 hit. Those guys are pretty damned good and put on a great show. The deserve way more respect than the crap out these days!
I'm not old enough to remember these guys when they were around but no-ones too young to appreciate decent music. I could listen to this song 1000 times and it'll still be fucking badass.
I remember cranking this tune back in 1976 in my 69 camaro on the 8 track with a power booster...brings back good memories....one of my favorite songs ever!....thanks for posting it!
You WERE 64 Ronnie - rock on on Station #5 darling - thanks for so many teenage rockin memories xxxxxxxxx

so it goes ...My friends, I don't see that often, play this album when we get together and drink to the past. They plug up the guitar and pretend and I do the same. Make it LAST.

Tesla is a cover band, and always will be..
dlew71662 1 year ago
@dlew71662 Although Tesla does many covers, very few "cover bands" have a Top 10 hit. Those guys are pretty damned good and put on a great show. The deserve way more respect than the crap out these days!
DickLodge68 1 year ago
Quite simply the best track from the best album of all time.

I'm not old enough to remember these guys when they were around but no-ones too young to appreciate decent music. I could listen to this song 1000 times and it'll still be fucking badass.

This tune is so similar to (and was an inspiration for) Van Halen's "Cabo Wabo"...
Thirdgen83 2 years ago
I remember cranking this tune back in 1976 in my 69 camaro on the 8 track with a power booster...brings back good memories....one of my favorite songs ever!....thanks for posting it!
glstupidvids 2 years ago 31
@glstupidvids Haven't heard the term power booster in a long time. I grad high school in 78, I can relate. Montrose had some nice smooth metal music.
