  • they were happy as hell

  • Look at the three cheerleaders dressed in blue suits! LOL!

  • on the contrary, Gere DJ, that's one funky break @1:50. made me do a back flip.

  • Cr@p! The negro boy in the drums is so stereo-typical '60s Negroesque! The white guy on the bass has a fruitcake haircut! Archie and the dancing negros are the only normal looking ones in the band, Great stuff!

  • The sound is awful, though I love the tune.

  • ymoのが元祖だと思っていました これだったんですね ますます気に入りました。

  • #268? yea right, this is number one in my book. I wish people still made good music like this. KEEP THE FUNK ALIVE!

  • Yeah why can't you locate a stargate worm hole back to 1968; video these guys with your iphone, then travel back to 2011 and post a descent video!

  • songs like 2 mintues to short

  • @SneakerZeeker had to keep it radio friendly "3:05" in those days or it was hard to get it played.

  • what in the flying fu@% do you expect a 43 year old video to do? why don't YOU upload a vid if you think you can do better....crybabies...

  • I love this song but....get rid of this video and replace it with a good copy Paaaaleeese...DAMN!

  • This is ghastly. There are a lot more versions - two of this exact performance - right here on YouTube that you can actually listen to without wishing you had a stick to gouge your eardrums out.

  • Anybody else caught that reference on that recent Family Guy Star Wars special?

  • what's up with the white guys in Hawaiian shirts? it disturbs me greatly

  • They didn't "Lose a Thing, from the recording studio to this Stage Show. Remarkable!

  • ARCHIE BELL'S BROTHER JERRY BELL USE TO SING WITH THE NEW BIRTH AND THE DAZZ BAND! HE NOW HAS A CD OUT WITH ONE OF THE HIT SONGS FROM NEW BIRTH CALLED IT'S BEEN SUCH A LONG TIME!!! IT'S A MOTHER! THIS MAN IS BADDDDDDDD! HE IS ALSO ON UTUBE. I TELL YOU ,YOU SHOULD LOOK FOR HIM!!! GREAT RE-MAKE!!

    Yeah, much better vid needed.

  • Steve Erkel on drums!

  • This song has been on my mind for over a month now I have no idea why. Looking at the video really lifts my spirit though. I loves it. Those dern Drells are REEDICKKO! ha!

  • SUCH A TREAT!!! Takes me back to my hood!! Great memories that will live forever....The excitement as a kid in my neighborhood was, Archie Bell lives down the street from us!! I realized later his younger brother who went PRO FOOTBALL was in my class..Ricky Bell. You didn't live unless you did the "TIGHTEN UP"!!!

  • I TRULY ENJOYED WATCHING THIS CLIP.....I GIVE IT A 10...GOOD THINGS DID COME OUT OF TEXAS...AFTER PRES. KENNEDY WAS SHOT...EVERY ONE SAID " NOTHING GOOD EVER CAME OUT OF TEXAS" HOW WRONG CAN THEY BE. ARCHIE WAS WOUNDED IN VIETNAM...AND THE MILITARY WOULD'NT SEND HIM HOME, HIS MUSIC WAS FINALLY MAKIN' THE SEEN BACK HOME IN THE STATES ...THANK YOU MR.BELL FOR YOUR BRAVERY AND SERVICES IN THE MILITARY....THANK YO FOR THE MUSIC AS WELL.

  • @JOEP123ful And then, from Crawford, came George W, a friend, we understand, of Bill W.

  • oh god the guitarists at 0:46! Too funny!

  • Despite it's poor quality it's still great to see a live version of it back in the day.

  • Does anybody know the name of the drummer?

  • @AprilEthereal The drummer is Chicagoan Frank Donaldson. Still plays around town, great guy.

  • TIGHTEN UP ER'BODY!!!

  • Ah just like house, kind of jazzy to chill to, but also fast enough to dance to. this brand of funk, such a pleasent rift.

  • Bama song and group. I understand this was ages ago, but...

  • it just doesn't get any better then this. oh wait ... yes it does!

  • lol - and those white guys have no rhythm whatsoever!!

  • my dad told me my cousin is the drummer. i dont know if its him here we are from houston

  • Give the drummer some!!!

  • FAB One of the all-time great riffs

  • i think the guitar player is my next door neighbor

  • OMG this is my cousin!!!!!!

  • Need a better video of this, was just listening to this on my ipod the other day and my wife loved it.

  • this was the first song I ever sang with a band in the summer of 1969. About 1989, I found myself on stage with Archie. I was workin' with Lou Cobin in Houston and Archie walks in the club and got up and did a few with us. Was a full circle moment.

  • I heard a Spanish/Portuguese (cant remember) version of this, can anyone help me out finding it ?

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • Archie looks like someone had tightened up the Eye.. But they were good at what they did,,

  • @TheMarcelius LOLOLOLOLOL!!!!

  • Cool...never realized this group was so bi-racial. Especially for the times when pop groups tended to be one or the other.

Did the Drells actually do anything besides dance? lol

  • wayne tedrow

  • Tighen up.

  • Man, these cats must have been exhausted by the end of the night! Great memory

  • Shake it baby!!! OUT OF SIGHT!! DAAAM.. they could really shake..LOVE IT..ARCHIE BELL AND THE DRELL'S..OUT OF SIGHT..

  • This is the no.1 song when I was born, damn I love the song ! CoolL

  • Frankie D. on the drums...he is still around in Chicago...taught me drums at Columbia College...He is da bomb...

  • @mmakama

    That is AWESOME!

    Thanks for the update!

  • Ricky Bell, former rb with Tampa Bay and the Chargers, was Archie's younger brother.

  • me and my 8 yr. old grandson have a blast with this song. We play "air guitar", "air drums", etc. What fun!

  • Dance is funny, even a little bit stupid

But the music is ture CLASSIC!

  • Thats the TSU Tornedoes actually playing the tunes behind Archie Bell and the Drells.

  • Good Lord! Isn't there anybody in the world who has a better vidio copy? Hey, Handsmlake, can you paaa-leeze do a better copy of this classic? The glitch at 1:50 is just sad. But, thanks, I guess, Gere.

  • @GereDJ

yes, there is a better one...keep looking

  • @GereDJ pretty sure this is the best that exists (many postings of same night's performance, all share same damaged video quality) -- i'd rather have some sense of the dancing and smiling than no images. grateful

  • @GereDJ try the one by MechanicBionic - MUCH better!

  • @GereDJ I really hate these type of complaints, and they're becoming too common on youtube. WTF do you expect him (the uploader) to do about this? VCRs did shit like that from time to time. Suck it up.

  • @GereDJ Best I had Now Tighten' up

  • @GereDJ

Bullshit! This IS the real deal! Negro music like this is authentic and priceless. You can't buy this live authenticity in a recording studio. Where else can you find this kind of reverse discrimination? Archie dressed the white boys up like buffoons, and the one had an Abraham Lincoln beard to top it off! I give this '60s negro led band 5 stars!.

  • @GereDJ No kidding! Just when it's time to Make It Mellow, it becomes one of the least-mellow videos ever...

  • this song belong to ruben cortez

  • first all gay soul group,,,,dance steps are sweet

  • Dude are you sure the drummer isn't Tay Zonday?

  • aaannnndddd erkel on the drums!!!! that kid is a good drummer. i love this song.

  • the sickest live soul video ever

  • "Let's Groove", now that was the jam, can anybody post that, thanks in advance!

  • let that guitar fallin now!!!!!!! my leg is shakin....im groovin....how can anybody sit still with this thang??? tighten it up now .. go archie!!

  • I love the kid on the drums

  • im from Htown and i have never seen then tighten up and half of us dont even know how 2 do it even the older ppl

  • so i do wish that...music was real shit... no what we got in this days...

  • great song!

  • I wish I had lived in these times :(

  • You don't want to wish that! Those days sucked! No Cable, No computers, No internet, No GPS, MAPQUEST, No CD's, Blacks were still struggling trying to be free from white oppression, men were being drafted to go to the "Nam knowing good and well we didn't belong there, the term interacial dating was practically profanity, Cars back then went eight miles to a gallon, No ATMs, no cell phones, Blacks and whites hated each other, and do I need to say more?

  • Those days did suck. I love me some white girls

  • @RangerRocket1 I don't care about blacks and whites hating each other, friction is natural when two groups collide. In fact, maybe if blacks had hated whites a little more actively we wouldn't have so much black-on-black hatred today. The hatred got redirected from the oppressor to members of one's own group.

  • Nothing good ever came out of hatred. I am waiting patiently for humans to wake up soon and realize that different skin colors exists in EVERY family, thru from black to white. There can be NO color in one human that is exactly as another. If 'black' and 'white' people did not fight, they each would find something else to fight about. Check it out, my brother.

  • good times

  • @RangerRocket1, I did live in those times and I tell you, they were ten times better then today. Not everything was perfect between people but that's the same now. Who cares if there are more electronics? We had other things to amuse us, to play with and things were alot simpler and more fun. I'm glad I wasn't born and raised in these times.

  • @lasktguy What a time that must have been with all that fantastic music. I bet in those days people who went to clubs actually watched the band and clapped after every song instead of sitting there playing with touch screen phones and ignoring the music. Pretty sad how it's gone that way. Long live old school!!

  • Pure awesome...
