Cr@p! The negro boy in the drums is so stereo-typical '60s Negroesque! The white guy on the bass has a fruitcake haircut! Archie and the dancing negros are the only normal looking ones in the band, Great stuff!
This is ghastly. There are a lot more versions - two of this exact performance - right here on YouTube that you can actually listen to without wishing you had a stick to gouge your eardrums out.
ARCHIE BELL'S BROTHER JERRY BELL USE TO SING WITH THE NEW BIRTH AND THE DAZZ BAND! HE NOW HAS A CD OUT WITH ONE OF THE HIT SONGS FROM NEW BIRTH CALLED IT'S BEEN SUCH A LONG TIME!!! IT'S A MOTHER! THIS MAN IS BADDDDDDDD! HE IS ALSO ON UTUBE. I TELL YOU ,YOU SHOULD LOOK FOR HIM!!! GREAT RE-MAKE!!
This song has been on my mind for over a month now I have no idea why. Looking at the video really lifts my spirit though. I loves it. Those dern Drells are REEDICKKO! ha!
This song has been on my mind for over a month now I have no idea why. Looking at the video really lifts my spirit though. I loves it. Those dern Drells are REEDICKKO! ha!
SUCH A TREAT!!! Takes me back to my hood!! Great memories that will live forever....The excitement as a kid in my neighborhood was, Archie Bell lives down the street from us!! I realized later his younger brother who went PRO FOOTBALL was in my class..Ricky Bell. You didn't live unless you did the "TIGHTEN UP"!!!
I TRULY ENJOYED WATCHING THIS CLIP.....I GIVE IT A 10...GOOD THINGS DID COME OUT OF TEXAS...AFTER PRES. KENNEDY WAS SHOT...EVERY ONE SAID " NOTHING GOOD EVER CAME OUT OF TEXAS" HOW WRONG CAN THEY BE. ARCHIE WAS WOUNDED IN VIETNAM...AND THE MILITARY WOULD'NT SEND HIM HOME, HIS MUSIC WAS FINALLY MAKIN' THE SEEN BACK HOME IN THE STATES ...THANK YOU MR.BELL FOR YOUR BRAVERY AND SERVICES IN THE MILITARY....THANK YO FOR THE MUSIC AS WELL.
this was the first song I ever sang with a band in the summer of 1969. About 1989, I found myself on stage with Archie. I was workin' with Lou Cobin in Houston and Archie walks in the club and got up and did a few with us. Was a full circle moment.
@lambrettacraig Yes the TSU Tornadoes are the back up band..BUT this is not them in this video...they were all black.. nothing against the dudes playing on this video. Just stating that this is NOT the TSU Tornadoes....this band was used to appeal to a more crossover based audience.........
Good Lord! Isn't there anybody in the world who has a better vidio copy? Hey, Handsmlake, can you paaa-leeze do a better copy of this classic? The glitch at 1:50 is just sad. But, thanks, I guess, Gere.
@GereDJ pretty sure this is the best that exists (many postings of same night's performance, all share same damaged video quality) -- i'd rather have some sense of the dancing and smiling than no images. grateful
@GereDJ I really hate these type of complaints, and they're becoming too common on youtube. WTF do you expect him (the uploader) to do about this? VCRs did shit like that from time to time. Suck it up.
Bullshit! This IS the real deal! Negro music like this is authentic and priceless. You can't buy this live authenticity in a recording studio. Where else can you find this kind of reverse discrimination? Archie dressed the white boys up like buffoons, and the one had an Abraham Lincoln beard to top it off! I give this '60s negro led band 5 stars!.
You don't want to wish that! Those days sucked! No Cable, No computers, No internet, No GPS, MAPQUEST, No CD's, Blacks were still struggling trying to be free from white oppression, men were being drafted to go to the "Nam knowing good and well we didn't belong there, the term interacial dating was practically profanity, Cars back then went eight miles to a gallon, No ATMs, no cell phones, Blacks and whites hated each other, and do I need to say more?
@RangerRocket1 I don't care about blacks and whites hating each other, friction is natural when two groups collide. In fact, maybe if blacks had hated whites a little more actively we wouldn't have so much black-on-black hatred today. The hatred got redirected from the oppressor to members of one's own group.
Nothing good ever came out of hatred. I am waiting patiently for humans to wake up soon and realize that different skin colors exists in EVERY family, thru from black to white. There can be NO color in one human that is exactly as another. If 'black' and 'white' people did not fight, they each would find something else to fight about. Check it out, my brother.
@RangerRocket1, I did live in those times and I tell you, they were ten times better then today. Not everything was perfect between people but that's the same now. Who cares if there are more electronics? We had other things to amuse us, to play with and things were alot simpler and more fun. I'm glad I wasn't born and raised in these times.
@lasktguy What a time that must have been with all that fantastic music. I bet in those days people who went to clubs actually watched the band and clapped after every song instead of sitting there playing with touch screen phones and ignoring the music. Pretty sad how it's gone that way. Long live old school!!
