No offense dude, but your method is way too long, why not just apply an outer glow effect to your white brush? also, in the actual Star Wars movies you don't see that kind of lens flare effect coming out of the lightsaber's beam, it's just the same effect for the entire thing.

True, the whole lens flare thing isn't seen in the movies, but it gives a lightsaber more "fierceness". This is handy when you're making a mock "Star Wars" poster or DVD cover(see cover of "Phantom Menace"; Obi-Wan's lightsaber has a lens flare).

the way i do it is i have 5 layers (original and 4 copies), set the blade to say 5 or 9 pixel (depends on size of pic), then the 4 copies i'll set the g.blur to teh same (blade size of 5, all copies go to a g.blur of 5). works great for me

I think a 3rd layer of 30 g-blur like Wieber uses looks closer to the movie, but 40 does give it a brighter feel.
