@strutzulescu I remember us kicking Russian arse, but I don't remember Russians doing the same. Russian soldiers can fight only women and little children. We see proves of this both in Chechnya and in Georgia.
That Russian occupation thing. You should check wikipedia entries for Ukraine, Georgia, and Moldova. The part about what happened to the russian speaking population after those countries got their freedom.
The "Russia is for Russians" thing is only the nationalist groups speaking. You can find nationalists everywhere, I'm sure. The government always said that Russia was multinational in nature. On the other hand the government of Moldova (Ukraine and Georgia too as far as I know), was nationalistic. If you want to know more - read an entry in the wikipedia on the war with transnistria. Russia didn't start that conflict, Moldova did. And Russia simply chose to support the opposition.
@deux2k nothing happened to them in my country, I'm from Moldova. They still live here and continue to speak Russian despite the fact that our official language is different. Nobody discriminates them. Nobody beats them or kills them. Yet, they show no respect for the locals and do not even try to learn to speak Romanian. So get your facts right.
Yeah, yeah. Nothing happened to them and as Moldova gained its independence suddenly Russia - the country that gave Moldova independence in the first place - decides to attack it. Sorry, mate, but you're the one who should get your facts straight. Also, Russians are locals too. Have been ever since Stefan the Great decided to unite Moldova with Russia. Go read wikipedia, enlighten yourself.
@deux2k are you crazy or something? Stefan the Great did not want to unite Moldova with Russia. What the hell are you talking about? His daughter was persecuted by the Russian Tsar.
In Transnistria, in the early '90s - 60 to 70% of the locals there were Moldovans. Russia always plays by double standards : she recognized our independence, but at the same time left her 14th Army in Transnistria. The conflict started when separatists attacked and arrested Moldavian police officers.
In 1990 transnistria and gagauzia declared independence from Moldova. Must've been Russia's play too I gather. The conflict started when nationalists started attacking transnistrians and the police and the National Front turned a blind eye as far as I know.
About Stefan - you're right. Don't know how I came to believe that.
@deux2k well, Gagauzia for example is an autonomy, and they speak Russian there and nobody accuses them of that. Many people from Gagauzia don't even understand the official language and everyone is OK with that. The difference is with Transnistria, where Russia keeps its army and does not want to retreat it. Her tanks were involved in the '90s conflict. There are videos about that.
And Smirnov, its leader from the 90s is a KGB agent, they have dictatorship there since then, how good is that?
@hzcenick how familiar are you with Smirnov's dictatorship? I for example am not familiar with it at all, and the censorship there must be worse than in China, since I never even heard of Transnistrians speaking of his dictatorship.
@hzcenick Anyway the point is that the Soviet union while being a dictatorship still proclaimed multinationality. When Moldova gained independence, Popular Front was quite openly nationalistic. That was the cause of Transnistria and Gagauzia declaring independence from Moldova, not Russia's foul play. And I would imagine Russia's intervention was one of the main reasons etnic minorities don't feel repressed in today's Moldova.
And by the way, Russia recognized Moldova the way it was with Transnistria included. And it's not an ethnic conflict as it may be in Kosovo or Ossetia, there are more Ukrainians there than Russians, and more Moldavians than Russians and Ukrainians summed up.
And Moldaians are too damn peaceful to be a threat to anyone, these people and country have never declared war on somebody else, in their entire history all they did was to defend themselves. They are harmless.
Go Georgia, go ! Get read of those Russian primates ! Undeveloped nation, barbarians and criminals from Kamchatka to Ukraina. Down with the Russian criminals !
@deux2k - rrriiight, and this is coming from somebody who has "milita" synonym for "mafia"! Ivan, go drink a votka, chill and cry about the mysterious Russian soul and greatness of Leader of the People!
Where did you get the idea that I have militia as a synonym for mafia, my name is Ivan, I drink vodka, cry about the mysterious Russian soul and greatnes of the Leader of the People (who's that btw, Lenin, Stalin?)? You should get your facts straight that stereotypical Russian you just described would be represented by less than 10% or probably even less than 5% of the population of Russia.
This video is nothing but advertisement. Only an idiot would not understand that.
I'm not the one here who said that Moldova envies Georgia. I for one do not envy Georgia, no matter how great the police in it may be. Saakashvili flaunts his anti-corruption reform everywhere. But what else has he done? Besides getting pro-russian Abkhzia and South-Ossetia to declare independence and Russia to recognize these mini-countries?
@deux2k aren't the reforms impressive enough for you?! As for second part - blaming Saakashvili and Georgians for Russian invasion is like blaming a raped woman for being raped.
@deux2k ... it happens that sometimes I do encounter _thinking_ Russians from time to time. A message or two ago I had the feeling that it is the case. Now the feeling is gone :)
You're more stereotypical than you might [ever] think ... Praise to great leader [Putin, Stalin, Whatever ...]!
There's a Russian saying: one always sees a speckle of dust in other's eye, and never acknowledges a log in one's own. I'm not blaming Georgians for Russia's invasion. Saakashvili on the other hand had full authority not to send tanks into South Ossetia and instead contact the Russians, and if that didn't work, inform, through the UN, that Georgia will use force if Russia does not control the separatists. And that my friend would make it impossible for Russia to annex anything.
@squamata70 Saakashvili knew very well what the consequences of his actions might be. So, no, it's not like blaming a rape victim for being raped, it's more like blaming someone for kicking the crap out of you when you called them an asshole for their behaviour.
Hey if your police is so good, how come you cannot control 15% of the territory you claim?
Because the people of Ossetia and Abkhazia are free-spirited human beings (just like the people of Russia). They said no to your Tyranny and are free by the grace of god.
You will never get your hands on those two independent, free-spirited countries again.
