@jovistruck I'm a keen supporter of Manchester United. I haven't seen this film in its entirety, but the English rose at 1:06 could easily make an Arsenal fan out of me.
i was at maine road when city was shit in block p of the north stand and aa of the kippax, stood on the kippax aswell ! stood on the kippax at maine road from being a small child. in the 80's. 5-1 charton game in 1985 springs to mind. No glory support here.
And spurs havnt won the epl since.. (No disrespect) i feel like im livining the movie now after 6 long years!!! With the carling cup birmingham game last season (like paul) i thought typical last min!!
@TheYongCTV Awesome.. the more I know about arsenal,, the more i love it!! i used to be a united fan up until 3 yrs backkk.. but being an arsenal fan is 10x better.. even without the trophiess!! <3 <3 ARSENAL!!
I remember watching this for the first time with my dad when i was 6. I'd just gone to the toilet just as Thomas was about to score and we had our own "PAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUULLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL" moment as he shouted for me :)
The point is that hardcore fans of any sport is awesome and I can relate to the Liverpool fans in this game. The Montreal fans after my heartbreak celebrated the same way as Arsenal in this video.
Since the game I have been bugged about it to no end and yet it has made me an even bigger fan than I already was and tested my loyalty like nothing else, but this year is our 100th anniversary and we are getting set to win that Grey Cup this year! We are favored to win it all with our team and when we finally bring that Cup home, I will run naked through the streets of my town, with my Rider flag wrapped around my neck, so all my buddies can watch. 2009 Grey Cup to see the devastation I felt.
Hey guys, I live in Alberta Canada. I am as big a fan of the Saskatchewan Roughriders Canadian football team as this guy is of Arsenal. Where I live most people cheer for Edmonton or Calgary, our team has 3 championships in an 8 team league in 100 years of competition. Last year in the title game we led with no time left, got a penalty and the other team got another chance to win, and did so. I damn near killed myself, I was at the game and outside the stadium there was a mini riot.
I consider this one of the best football movies ever. I support Liverpool but to me this movie shows what it means to be a supporter regardless of which team you support. Sure the end from a Liverpool supporter sucks but still the emotions displayed says it all. It shows how great it is to get something that you have wanted for a long time=).
This must be the best feeling you could ever get, whichever team you support. I've been waiting for 30 years now. 7 points ahead mid season but I think we'll blow it again somehow.
As a Liverpool fan I was devastated at the time but look back at that night with fondness. This was the when I realised how much the game would mean to me. I was an inconsoleable sobbing seven yr old at the time, but thanks to this it was all the sweeter to me when we took the title back the following yr when I truly understood how much it meant. I'll never forget Brian Moore's brilliant commentary "it's Thomas... charging through the midfield... it's up for grabs noooooooow!" Brilliant!
@red82Mike lol, very good, i was 5, and an arsenal fan. i remember watching it, and i lived just 5 minutes from highbury, when we won, the streets were a wash or red and white... oh and yellow and blue lol... great day. i feel for liverpool fns, it would kill me to see that happen.
everytime i see this clip it just makes me so nice inside...i cant really explain it....wot a game.....an megamurg if ya read this post....thats y i've supported the gooners for over 40 yrs...and the bit where in the last min someone rings the door bell....thats just wot i wud shout out....( i even told my mum to fcuk off on the fone once when she fone me....big appologies after the match, she even sed she forgot a match was on.......again sorry mum..xx)
i went to the everton game at highbury in 1998 when arsenal clinched there 1st title since 1991 and it was brilliant but i wish i was at the 1989 game thou
around 5:20 he says that if Liverpool win they will be champions for the 19th time. Was that correct because they won the 1990 league and that was their 18th title wasn't it?
I think the drama is lost in this clip. Probably was the most dramatic ending to a game ever but showing two arsenal fans in their 20s/30s on their own (?) in a flat, one wants to leave...Read the book and Nick Hornby describes it better than this. Poor adaptation to a memorable game.
GOOSEBUMPS! (Or as the Mad one would say goosebubbles) There isn't any other video on earth that gives me the goosebumps this does! Arsenal come streaming forward in surely what must be their last attack.........
Fuck me!! I can NEVER see too much of this film! THAT WAS ME, and I suspect, every Gooner in the country at the time! Inbuilt pessimism, that only gets relief after the very final kick, of the last possible pitfall/eventuality!
Born in '72, I wasn't alive when we won the League/Double in '71, was at Wembley in '79 for the FA Cup win over Manu(WE TRIED TO THROW IT!! lol) and to my shame, LEFT THE FUCKING PUB WITH 3 mins TO GO (full of gloating scousers!)... only finding out the score after FT!
Had a choice... either, RISK the 'impossible'... (second goal, which didn't look like coming!!)... or STILL be inside, for Scousercide!! lol
17 years were WELL WORTH THE WAIT! Wouldn't change it for the world! THAT'S ARSENAL FOR YA! The lows, are LOW!!!! BUT THE HIGHS ARE INSURMOUNTABLE!
Yeah... the wins since have been the Dog's Bollox, and it pisses me off when others insinuate, 'GLORY FAN'. They'll NEVER HAVE SOMETHING AS MONUMENTAL AS THIS THO'!
I think there's a mistake in the commentary - the commentator says around 5:14 that "If it stays this way, Liverpool will be champions for the 19th time". Didn't they win the Championship a year later for the 18th time?
I had always wondered that myself, but thought surely Brian Moore wouldn't make a mistake like that. But yes, that was definitely an error. Good catch.
So much better than the U.S. version. Then again, I'm a Yankee Fan so I consider that a horror film. The only disappointing thing about the U.K. version is the surprisingly low number of Spurs insults -- just one that I can think of, at the parent-teach conference -- and Paul calls himself an Arsenal fan!
fair play to the gooners,,,just think 20 years on we will win the title against the spurs,,, god i hope so,,,its been too long now,,,love this film,,,lfc 4eva
Absolutely fantastic. Have watched this so many times and it is still as good each time.
I'll never forget that game. For any Arsenal Fan the end of Fever Pitch is brilliant.
This really is as good as it gets. Anyone who remembers it will alway treasure the moment. Forget about where were you when JFK was shot? This is the most amazing memory
fair play to Arsenal,im a Pool fan so particularly in recent years we've come to appreciate a never say die attitude that u showed that night,i heard that Tony Adams said it was the best experience he ever had of opposition fans..hope the gunners have a good year this year..just not as good as us :P best of luck YNWA
Still gives me the willies every time I see this. We've won games, championships, cups, and even doubles since: but I wonder whether we've ever known a greater day than this?
Its like a flashback in my own life I was 34 at the time sitting in my flat with my friend watching the game, the frustration and the Joy are still as fresh is my mind today as they were that night........Its up for grabs now, Thomas, Right at the end

yeaaaaaaaaaaah love it whats funny, liverpool hasnt won the premiership!!!! u are going to say champions leauge bla bla, but in the preiership is harder to win than the champions leauge!!!! need abit of luck to wi it.....so liverpool kiss my ass............
Before my time as an Arsenal supporter unfortunately and even before I a day where I could speak, but that moment still gives me goosebumps every single time. Unbelievable.
Banks save, Baggios miss, Zidanes head, Man Us corners, Maradonas goal, Hursts "was it a goal?", Rossis "run of joy", Bergkamps goal, Salenkos five, if you're in to football you know what i mean. All these are called biggest moment in the beatiful game.
But fore me it's no doubt, this is "THE BIGGEST MOMENT IN SPORT!"
I'll never forget the sperz invading the QPR plastic pitch(they just lost 3-0) celebrating, slightly prematuely,Arsenal blowing the championship after the Derby County game :) "eff off Pleat"
if he was pulled back by fabregas it was only a free kick not a penalty,& toure was trying to get out of the way a babel crashed into him. I supose he could have said beam me up scotty and vanished ?
if he was pulled back by fabregas it was only a free kick not a penalty,& toure was trying to get out of the way a babel crashed into him. I supose he could have said beam me up scotty and vanished ?
Does telle think the Dirk Kuyt challenge at the Emirates was a penalty? I hope Toure appeals the yellow card and Babel gets one retrospectively and misses the Chelski semi.
been a gooner all of my life.since brum match had no luck whatsoever, rafa alucky manager , we deserved to win chelsea, pool, and manure, no justice but maybe next season we will get the luck as long as we still play the best footy in the premi
Nick Hornby is like Shakespeare ...he can't really write comedy, but he did give me a mention in 'Fever Pitch' I'm the "nutter" he avoided on the Northbank , I think. It was like the Kennedy assassination, Nostrodamus always remebered where he was when he predicted Arsenal winning the title at Anfield.Like a nutter I went to Trafalgar Square to celebrate that night...there was no-one there!

tbf, the Red Sox hadn't won the title for almost 90 years.
I thought I knew how obsessed Red Sox fans were. Then I spent a week in Boston during the season they finally won it.
I've also been to England, and trust me: Red Sox fans are just as obsessed as English football supporters.
(this is not giving a judgement either way on the US remake of the film)
Pity the poor Chicago Cubs fans though. An even 100 years and counting since their last World Series title.

Good film, even though as a Liverpool fan, that's a sickener.

How could it possibly wasn't a penalty? Babel was tugged back by Fabregas as he went into the box and was then knocked off his feet by Toure.
telle19 3 years ago
if he was pulled back by fabregas it was only a free kick not a penalty,& toure was trying to get out of the way a babel crashed into him. I supose he could have said beam me up scotty and vanished ?

Does telle think the Dirk Kuyt challenge at the Emirates was a penalty? I hope Toure appeals the yellow card and Babel gets one retrospectively and misses the Chelski semi.
