@spiderman2k5r yes, flowmasters sound very loud. i dont have this mustang anymore. i have a 1999 which is still a 4.6 and have flowmasters on it. they sound pretty decent, BUT i like the "bubbly" sound borla gives. just like if the car was under water :) . but everyone has their preferences

the borla s-type (stinger) mufflers that im putting on my 5.0 alone will cost me $300 for the pair or i could get the catback for $500. i dont think borlas are that cheap. a flowmaster american thunder catback w/ tailpipes will cost me $300. im going with the better product and getting borla.

I would keep the cats. My brother's mustang picked up power when he went from strait pipes to high flow cats. In my opinion pony sounds better and doesn't stink with cats. It's up to you, you can just gut cats for free with a pry bar.

On the 4.6L s there are three cats on each side of the pipe. If you were to cut them out, and replace it with dif. pipe you would have a pretty much brand new pipe. I went with a bassani offroad x pipe, sounds wicked and gave me way more power. The only trouble is you have to get a mil(malfunction indicator light) simulator to eliminate the check engine light and then you are good to go. I paid $50 for the mils on ebay.
