Yes i must admit when i do drugs i dont really like seeing people i care about on them, i know its hypocricy, but i hate drugs, they take part of your soul. layne thought it was algd taking heroin (junkhead) but didnt have the constitution to handle them long term and he had so many demons that once hooked he couldnt live without them
Don't take drugs. Fucking simple as that. And don't let anyone ever try to convince you of stupid things like "This drug isn't actually bad for you and should be legal". It snowballs. One leads to another. Layne didn't figure this out until it was too late.
This is actually at kemper arena in Kansas City Mo. They ended up not playing the Kiel Center . I was at this concert, they opened for Kiss. They were awesome , Kiss was terrible.
@cclizarkb I thought they did play the Keil Center. I'm pretty sure there are vids of Layne actually tearing around the stage singing We Die Young in St Louis in 96.
@coonscrib Yea you are right they did. They played Kiel the day before KC and then dropped after the next date I had my dates mixed up. This is def KC though
Sorry, this gig was 6 years before he died... We never saw how bad it really got, that's for sure. I felt sorry for Mike Starr, he was the last one to see him alive and walked out on him, after Layne kicked him out. He lived with that till he died that's for sure. RIP both of you.
@tequiladave78 Actually Mike Star walked out after Layne and him got into a arguement about Mike Star being high on benzodiazapens. Cant remember what kind exactly, I think it was Klonipin. Layne didnt like seeing Mike high on them, even though that was the pot calling the kettle black. Then Mike walked out and left with Layne saying "No dont leave, not this this". Layne knew he was very close to dying and didnt want it to end that way. Mike Starr said that on Celebrity Rehab.
This show was about 3 or 4 years before he died. Junkies like Layne don't take heroin to feel high, they take heroin not to hurt... He was only normal on heroin, that's what heroin addiction does to you. His voice isn't deteriorating, he was still a long way from his end, at this stage, on the downward spiral but still a long way away. Just enjoy the master at work. We are lucky enough to still have a few good recordings of the MAN. RIP Layne and Mike Starr, Hope you're rocking out, up there!!!
I think layne's stillness had more to do with how uncomfortable he came to feel in public and less to do with drug use,im not denying his health was diminishing but i dont think he was as physically impaired yet as people are making it seem
Kick ass vid. Still haunting to hear his voice. He seemed creeped out to be who he was while singing like he was outside of himself. - miss that voice
No doubt this was at the end for Layne, it has been well doccumented.. It is sad that the addiction was evident and cost the lift of one of the best singers of the 90's and ever, love Alice and Mad Season too...R.I.P. Thomas Layne Staley!
He just sounds like he'd done a lot of coke. His hearts beating really fast and his throats a little constricted. Haven't you ever done drugs and played music before?
I'd like to see what kind of music Layne would be involved with today. This isn't "vintage Layne" to me. He seems sluggish and emaciated here. Compared to early 90's, it's just too bad. I don't think he wanted to be out there at this point. But when you watch other clips, he OWNED the stage.
when i first head AiC i honestly didnt think too much, probably because i was a noob in the field of music and just followed whatever the popular kids liked in school...but now in my early 20's i randomly hear AiC's unplugged and became obsessed. I guess listening to shit for the past 15 years has allowed me to recognize greatness once more, the blinders have been removed. Thank god

jerry on the sidelines singing back up where he belongs. Thats right folks, clearly Staley was the frontman, you'll never sell me on an "Alice In Chains" without him. Still fucking boss here and clearly incapacitated he barely moves for christsakes.
@lilcartoon666 That being said mate, I had a friend who got into crack and heroin (he inherited a ton of cash...worse thing for a drug person). I knew my friend would never rob me.....His drug habit on the other hand would have emptied my house.
@TheExposeTube tell me about it, my aunt inherited about a mil when she was 25, now shes been a crazy alcoholic bitch for about 2 decades. Anyway, my point is alot of money + alot of spare time = horrible drug habit, almost 100% of the time. RIP layne, Dime , and my golden retriever rosie.
Jerry sang his heart out during the Tribute Song "Black Gives Way To Blue" in memory of his friend Layne last Friday night a the Key Arena in Seattle, it wan an amazing performance and the entire concert was recorded in 3D for an upcoming DVD that will be out sometime next year but you can check out my channel for live footage that I recorded.... Check it out!!.. RIP Layne!!..
So sad....LAYNE BY THIS TIME U WERE REALLY DYING INSIDE....i THOUGHT U LOOKED HORRIBLE IN UNPLUGGED BUT THIS IS BAD.....STILL SEXY W/ AN AMAZING VOICE....WISH U WERE STILL HERE....NO ONE SOUNDS LIKE YOU!!
@stavroswrc So sorry to inform you but you are completely wrong they did there last show in KC Missouri July 3, 1996 opening for Kiss 3 days after the release of Unplugged in which they recorded in New York May 1996 . I not only know this I was there. It was a day after this show in St. Louis.
ok there kiss742000 kiss and metalica both are the most fucking worthless bands ever made,NEITHER of them having a song that was half as good as any of alice in chains song!!!KISS AND METALICA SUCK OLD MAN BALLS!!!!!
This band had it all. Great musical leadership from Jerry Cantrell. Great rhythm from Mike Inez and Sean Kinney. Layne Staley's stage attitude and uniqueness completed the package.
I was at this show, they opened for KISS on like the 3rd night of the Reunion Tour, got booted form the tour the following night in Kansas City. IMHO this is WAY better than the Jools Holland footage, and is among some of their best live footage. In hindsight, I am VERY sad to see this as it's their second to last performance ever with the 2nd lineup.
ok there ronpenzel your favorite rocker was a fuckin drug addict and is dead, the so called bubble gum posers gave this asshole a break by asking him to tour adn the fuucker couldnt even do it. Oh yeah they screwed metallica over too.
@kiss742000 a fucking drug addict. Show some respect dude. Who are you to even judge people like that. Like they are fucking dirt. Have some understanding of peoples emotions and fate. Your world could crumble as well. Your the fucker here, with that attitude.
ok there ronpenzel your favorite rovker was a fuckin drug addict and is dead, the nso called bubble gum posers gave this asshole abreak by touring. dunm fuuckk
wow, I can't believe this video is posted on line. If this show was in St Louis in '96 I was there, they opened for KISS. I went with 5 other guys; one of my friends offered me a ticket for the "KISS" show and I'm not a big fan of those geriatric bubble gum "metal" posers, but when I found out that AIC was opening I was psyched to go. The thing I remember about that show is that Layne scarcely moved from in front of the mic and seemed to be ashen white. Oh well, AlC and Layne rule always!!!
I keep finding obscure video footage of old Chains shows and I just want to CRY cause I LOVE THIS BAND!!! The remind me of the most kick ass time of my life in my youth and everyone I knew loved this band. We would party and smash our place up listening to them an get mega fucked up and drung, high, whatever. FUN TIMES<FUN MUSIC<FUN BAND< Thank GOD for Seattle and their sound...
hes still very listenable.. and certainly not in his prime.. i think he was heavilly into heroin by this point right.. and had lost a lot of his power.. he looks kinda thin
dude Layne helped me more than anyone in my life im 25 maybe still young maybe not.....just knowing that I'm not alone and talkin to ppl on here saying that Layne helped them....passes alittle of the stress away....Im over the heavy drug thing but I still have to deal with everyday life and I dnt know wats worse
@beAVENeasy I'm 24 n I know exactly what your going thru I'm goin thru the same thing, I used for years but havn't done anything serious in about a year n a half... it still messes w/ me from time to time and it is definitely really hard to change... must change your people places n things n remember there are other people going thru the same thing n it just isnt worth it... as high as u get ur gonna get just as low eventually always n them withdrawals just aint worth it... AIC helps me as well
@hoffman845 Thanks man...I did it to get away from my reality works for a little...but like u said withdraws arent worth anything...Lifes hard...sometimes too hard///but talkin to ppl like you keeps me sane it really does...I feel like such an outcast..my friends dnt understand,,,but thats why their my friends their not scumbag drug buddies...Keep ur head up tho I guess wer hear for a reason huh
@beAVENeasy same, it started off w/ me as just somethin fun to do to escape reality once in a while w/ some friends then I started doin it more and more in my spare time until I was doing it all the time and my life turned into a complete mess. Life definitly is hard, some people r quick to judge each other but they just dont understand. Some people grow up hard in bad areas and stuff like that surrounds them everywhere. Some people r just set up to fail, but that dont mean we have to bro!!
go ride a bike for 10 miles and during the course of the ride ride as fast as you can and think best sex fantasy it's way better than smack man... yehaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa - cowboy bob...
@roehoejoe71 that would of been the greatest thing in my life if I saw this...I wish I could walk around and say ya I saw Layne perform...ur Lucky and Im jealous tottaly
Freddy Was also a Heavy Drunk. Learn your History. Secondly, Heroine is known to Make people Sing Better, For a small time. So that being said, Layne was more than likely in the Middle of his Heroine usage in his Prime.
Great memories!!! I was there!!! Thanks for posting!!!

Hello there fellow metalheads.
Instead of a Metal rebellion i propose a new plan.
1. Don't bash other metal artists, we need to unite. We cant fight against pop music if we arent even together.
2. Watch more and other metal videos to get it to the top of the youtube vid list
3. Instead of bashing pop, promote metal with logical reasons, not just "METAL RULES!"
If you like this idea, thumbs it up JUST so people can see it, and also spread it around if you like this idea

@stavroswrc So sorry to inform you but you are completely wrong they did there last show in KC Missouri July 3, 1996 opening for Kiss 3 days after the release of Unplugged in which they recorded in New York May 1996 . I not only know this I was there. It was a day after this show in St. Louis.

Layne was epic. If god has a voice he would share with us it would sound like this.
LeBigMoneyShow 1 year ago
Poor Layne. His life force is just SPENT at this point. You can tell by his posture and his voice. So sad. He was so talented.
greenfruitface 1 year ago

Oh yeah they screwed metallica over too.
kiss742000 1 year ago
@kiss742000 a fucking drug addict. Show some respect dude. Who are you to even judge people like that. Like they are fucking dirt. Have some understanding of peoples emotions and fate. Your world could crumble as well. Your the fucker here, with that attitude.

wow, I can't believe this video is posted on line.

AIC were always great. No one sings like Layne, or ever will.

im a big AIC fan but Layne's voice here sounds like an anemic old mans here, certainly couldnt of been in the best shape at this point
poptube87 1 year ago
i'd like to get ahold of the fuck who introduced layne to the smack.
tho, this is 96, i think he looked good and sounded pretty good.
he was always a bit skinny, and tours take a toll on the voice after a while into them.
AIC rocks!

AIC helps me as well
hoffman845 1 year ago
@hoffman845 Thanks man...I did it to get away from my reality works for a little...but like u said withdraws arent worth anything...Lifes hard...sometimes too hard///but talkin to ppl like you keeps me sane it really does...I feel like such an outcast..my friends dnt understand,,,but thats why their my friends their not scumbag drug buddies...Keep ur head up tho I guess wer hear for a reason huh
beAVENeasy 1 year ago
@beAVENeasy same, it started off w/ me as just somethin fun to do to escape reality once in a while w/ some friends then I started doin it more and more in my spare time until I was doing it all the time and my life turned into a complete mess. Life definitly is hard, some people r quick to judge each other but they just dont understand. Some people grow up hard in bad areas and stuff like that surrounds them everywhere. Some people r just set up to fail, but that dont mean we have to bro!!

Freddy Was also a Heavy Drunk. Learn your History. Secondly, Heroine is known to Make people Sing Better, For a small time. So that being said, Layne was more than likely in the Middle of his Heroine usage in his Prime.
