There is a production in my town and this is the first time I will not be in it after four years. I've had multiple roles: Adult at the Christmas Party, Mouse, Snow, Angel, Spanish, Chinese, and Flower. Oh gosh, I love it so much. I'm truly in love with this incredible ballet... I miss it.
The first part of Swan Lake is my favorite Tchaikovsky piece (and, by definition, my favorite bit of music overall), but this is very nearly as beautiful.
@MySuperSharona oh my goddd. i feel the exact same way.Tchaikovsky has this way of expresing his music with a certain amout of emotions that just make you feel like you're right there. well said, mate!
I'm in the Nutcracker for the first time (not professionally), and I'm so excited for it. I'm in the Snowflakes' Waltz as well as the lead in Arabian, which have always been two of my favorites (other than Sugarplum and Waltz of the Flowers)
i absolutly lv Tchaikovsky... his music s so divine and so elegant ;):) it reminds me of wen my grandma took me 2 my 1st nutcracker :D 8)gud times.... ;)
this man is a genius, will someone go and try to ask someone in your school or a teacher and see if they know this person,i did and mostly didnt reconize this person.
Yeah, almost everyone in western civilization has at least heard of Beethoven and/or Mozart, but I bet far fewer people have heard of any other single composer, including Tchaikovsky. Bach would probably be the third most popular...
It would also be interesting to see how many people could pronounce Tchaikovsky's name correctly! ("chi-cough-skee" in case anyone is interested.)
I did the survey you proposed about a month ago and i checked to see if people recognized beethoven and mozart. Then, i did chopin, lizst, brahms, tchaikovsky and many other. 80% recognized beethoven and mozart. Less than 10 % recognized every other composer stated above. Talk about statistics. I don't even like beethoven that much. Chopin and Liszt surpass him greatly when it comes to the keys and the art of being a true virtuoso pianist.
Also, if you were to ask specific song names, i bet less than 1% would be able to identify the waltz of the flowers or hungarian rhapsody 2 and on and on. I rest my case please comment and visit my channel.
@mahlerite I can't believe this to be the case. Is this the view from anywhere in particular? In the three countries I've lived in (NL, UK, & Belgium) Tchaikovsky is a classical music fixture, about as well known as any.
@mahlerite i speak russian, ukrainian and english... So please trust me its not how you pronounce his last name, nobody but russian speaking language people can say it right :)
In China, Tchaikovsky and Beethoven are the two most well known composers, to the extent that hey are dubbed "Old Chai" and "Old Bei" respectively. There is imho no point in mimicking the Russian pronounciation of the first syllable "chai", in which due to lack of accent the syllable's phonetic information is reduced. In a way, that Russian pronounciation becomes wrong when transported to a more generalized, international context.
Our school band had to play this,I nearly jumped out of my seat with happiness!
