  • The first part of Swan Lake is my favorite Tchaikovsky piece (and, by definition, my favorite bit of music overall), but this is very nearly as beautiful.

Such a pity he isn't more popular.

  • @MySuperSharona oh my goddd. i feel the exact same way.Tchaikovsky has this way of expresing his music with a certain amout of emotions that just make you feel like you're right there. well said, mate!

  • I'm not THAT into classical music (i'm only 13), but I'm a good speller. I can spell Tchaikovsky's name and i've heard of him. :)

  • I'm in the Nutcracker for the first time (not professionally), and I'm so excited for it. I'm in the Snowflakes' Waltz as well as the lead in Arabian, which have always been two of my favorites (other than Sugarplum and Waltz of the Flowers)

  • Was your head cracked ?

  • I think Tchaikovsky is my favourite composer, his music is soooooo beautiful !!!!!! this waltz is simply amazing

    it is so winter-y

  • this music makes me dance!

  • Tchaikovsky is absolutley one of my favorite composers and the Nutcracker is my favorite ballett!! ^^o

  • Do you have the music from The Children's Album? The only song I know from that is the Mazurka

  • Wow, now this is music,

    I love Tchaikovsky,

    one of my favorite composers!

  • Thank you for this great music.

  • this man is a genius, will someone go and try to ask someone in your school or a teacher and see if they know this person,i did and mostly didnt reconize this person.

  • Yeah, almost everyone in western civilization has at least heard of Beethoven and/or Mozart, but I bet far fewer people have heard of any other single composer, including Tchaikovsky. Bach would probably be the third most popular...

It would also be interesting to see how many people could pronounce Tchaikovsky's name correctly! ("chi-cough-skee" in case anyone is interested.)

  • lol oh its preonounceed chi cogh skee,(i thought it was (chok-koskee) lol sorry.

  • Another great composer most people probably have not of is Giovanni Gabrielli.

  • Well... Che-cov-skey... actually. *chokes on own Slavic-ness*

  • I did the survey you proposed about a month ago and i checked to see if people recognized beethoven and mozart. Then, i did chopin, lizst, brahms, tchaikovsky and many other. 80% recognized beethoven and mozart. Less than 10 % recognized every other composer stated above. Talk about statistics. I don't even like beethoven that much. Chopin and Liszt surpass him greatly when it comes to the keys and the art of being a true virtuoso pianist.

  • Also, if you were to ask specific song names, i bet less than 1% would be able to identify the waltz of the flowers or hungarian rhapsody 2 and on and on. I rest my case please comment and visit my channel.

  • May I have a link to this survey?

  • Sorry i have no link it was just an on paper experiment i did for a survey in Science class i was just bored and didnt type it.

  • @mahlerite I can't believe this to be the case. Is this the view from anywhere in particular? In the three countries I've lived in (NL, UK, & Belgium) Tchaikovsky is a classical music fixture, about as well known as any.

  • @mahlerite I cannot know Chicoughsky by face, but by music I know about Swan Lake.. and some other melodic music...

  • @mahlerite LOL you probably looked back to spell his name correctly it is especially hard to spell xD

  • @Tasia5597 YKSVOKIAHCT

    Pretty difficult!

  • @mahlerite I knew how to pronounce it ! ;P

  • @mahlerite i speak russian, ukrainian and english... So please trust me its not how you pronounce his last name, nobody but russian speaking language people can say it right :)

  • @sevidg

But it's the best the Americans do!

  • @mahlerite Is not like chey-kov-sky?

  • @sevidg what is the right way of pronouncing it?

  • @sevidg omg i speak russian ukrainian and english too!

  • @sevidg I'm lihuanian and i can pronounce his last name right. just like the russians :)

  • In China, Tchaikovsky and Beethoven are the two most well known composers, to the extent that hey are dubbed "Old Chai" and "Old Bei" respectively. There is imho no point in mimicking the Russian pronounciation of the first syllable "chai", in which due to lack of accent the syllable's phonetic information is reduced. In a way, that Russian pronounciation becomes wrong when transported to a more generalized, international context.

  • @sevidg im Hungarian and I guess I pronounce it the right way. Im in love with this man! :)

  • @Jake4595

He is big in Japan, China and other Asian countries. The top 4 classical composers in those countries are Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, and Tchaikovsky.

  • @Jake4595 YOU JUST DONT UNDERSTAND....Geniuses are only to be known by other geniuses like You and Me....not them fools.....

  • great job!
