Beautifully and perfectly stated. I have often said that I think the wrong species became the dominant ones of this planet. The world and humanity as a whole would have been better off if it was dogs.
Dogs are one of the best gifts mankind has even been given. If you give them the love and appreciation they deserve, they will give you their whole life.
Thank you for this wonderful reminder and the memories that come with it. I will never forget all the partners who have come and gone; and the tears still flow when I think back to the ones who have left my life.
I have eight dogs, six of them sleep in my bedroom, on my bed, Two shihtzus, one shih-poo, three beautiful puppies from my shihpoo & shihtzu, one maltese and a chow-chow. People can't understand the love and joy they bring to people like me. I get insulted when people say "than person has the demeanor of a dog" when pertaining to his/her bad attitude. . How little do they know.
brought tears to my eyes as I listened and watched, thinking about every dog-child we had, the joy, the pain of loss and the joys of the next and each one, they were never 'just a dog' in my family, they were members of this family, thanks, this was a wonderful video
You should contact the author of the writing and reach an agreement to publish this in book form. Between the two of you, you have created an amazing piece of art that has a redeeming social value. ( I honestly confused myself, I thought it was a book that had been published, because I had been at Barnes and Nobles earlier in the day and written down the latest titles and authors of Dog books that I want to read.) When I looked again,, I found that it isn't published yet... It should be :)
I am left without words every time I have read this poem! I first came across at the Pet Memorial where my beloved "Applehead" was cremated. There is no better way to describe this feeling than who ever wrote this poem. I am glad that there are other people understand that Dogs, are NOT "just a dog".
Just a dog can detect cancer and save lives. Just a dog can help the blind. Just a dog can help people overcome disabilities and illnesses of all kinds. Just a dog can rescue people buried under avalanche snow. Just a dog can make kids grow up with responsibilities and become better well rounded adults ! Thumbs up for Just a dog!
I'm overjoyed to hear that there are people out there like me im so sick of hearing the phrase "JUST A DOG" its not just a dog its my best friend a better friend than any human. It's not just a dog its a gift from god to me :)
I am facing the loss of my faithful companion of 14 years in the next few months. I have had him since he was 6 weeks old and was being thrown off a roof to see if they could catch him. One of my students knew this was wrong and talked the boys into giving her my boy. She brought him to school because she knew I would help. I can't imagine my life without him though I own 2 other rescues and 4 cats. They are all so important to me.Than you for helping me feel less alone on this journey.
@NaviandGus I am so sorry for your situation. Just 3 months and 19 days ago I lost my beloved "Applehead" after 3 years of dealing with epilepsy, he was very controlled, but needed pills 4 x a day(which were all given on the dot). He finally lost his life to encephalitis....it is a tough journey...but show/give all your love and that is all they need. I am sure you have given him/her a good life and he/she knows it. God bless your baby...
Thank-you! That's what my wife says about our "dog" of fourteen years..."she's just a dog." Well the end is nearing as 'ol Maggie is running out of gas. My only regret is that I never gave "that dog" as much joy as she gave me...thanks again!
Today marks the first year anniversary when I lost Jesse ,the Rott. She gave me continues and reciprocal unconditional love, she was my therapist when I was sick, she was there when I went through difficult times, she was there for me when I needed a friend, she has more intuitive understanding of what I was going through, what i'm feeling and what I need,She is more intuitive than most humans

This is beautiful and I agree with the many who said if they feel or say "It's just a dog" please don't own one...I have volunteered for a dog rescue group for 10 yrs or so and I'm amazed all the time at the compassion and love of the dogs as well as all the chances they give us to be more compassionate and loving while many humans just take away my thoughts of goodness of people - it's a sad thing for that belief to be taken away. Thank you for sharing.
This is a great video! It always concerns me though, when a person says, "it's just a dog" because I have to wonder, what could this person who apparently thinks so little of a animal, possibly do to one? If anyone thinks "it's just a dog, or cat, or whatever" please please, don't own one. Tell us animal lovers, and we'll help find it a loving home.
I love this video. I only have on thought. Please extend our love of animals to all others such as pigs, cows, chicken whose lives are being kept in the dark, no love, only fear of death. They are exactly like Dogs with such intelligence and feelings. If we can't fathom to see a dog being killed for food, then we must not allow pigs, cows, chicken to die only for our taste.
Just wanted to thank you for the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. This video brings me to tears each and everytime. It touches me somewhere deep inside that few undersatnd or care to understand. I know many of those "just a dog" people and I fell so very sorry for them because they have no idea what the most real and purest joy in life is. This video represents every essence of my being and I feel like you made it just for me. Thank you from the very bottom of my heart.
@crazyzoopeople It can apply to all of our furry creatures. I love my dog...but I think people can love all of their animals equally, no matter what they are...cat...dog...ferrit...rat...whatever they are....don't you think? This vid also brings tears to my eyes....and it touches me too deep inside.
@crazyzoopeople Wow, you said it! I could have written everything you have there and maybe it would have expressed how deeply I too am touched by Trent's video. Funny how we dog lovers speak the same language.
Wonder if the "just a dog" people are like that? The other phrase I have heard when I've lost a beloved furbaby is, " well you can get another one, right?" as if they are all interchangeable, as if they are little objects that have no personalities of their own....it amazes me.
@PapillonOne ,thank you! It gives me hope to know there are others out there that feel the same as I do! I love all animals but dogs hold a very special place in my heart. There is no greater feeling than the absolute adoration and love you get from a dog! They are wonderful! Come find me on facebook, I enjoy having dog-minded friends! You should be able to find me from my e-mail, crazyzoopeople@yahoo.com. Thanks again!
When I got my girl, a Rottweiler/Plott Hound mix, she was 5 months old. She was severely underweight and eat up with mange. I asked them how they could let her get like that. Their response? "She's just a dog." I took her home. She's now 7 and in need of actually losing weight haha. She's my precious girl.
I have seen this in just text before, Thank you so much for putting pictures and song to it; I understood it well in text; and LOVE what you've done with it!!!
What a beautiful, moving tribute to the sacred bond of love shared between dogs and the people who love them. This is the first video I have ever seen that has really captured the essence of this most sacred relationship and what it means to so many of us. Thank you so much for sharing this.
GREAT video! i love this i added it to my favorites. I volunteer at an animal rescue and what we look for in an owner is someone who thinks like the way u do. u can never say its "just a dog."
AWESOME!!! Every word & picture is what I'm about also! Life without a dog is painfully quiet & heartwrenchingly alone! Thanks for speaking in my behalf as well!
When I lost everything in this financial crisis, everyone kept telling me to give my dogs to the shelter and "move on." No way. Of all the things I have kept, I have kept my dogs. I would no sooner give them away than I would a dependent child.
The author of "Just a Dog" is Richard Biby, btw.... it was apparently first printed in NAVHDA Magazine in the Feb 2006 issue. (North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association)
This is brilliant!

I volunteer at an animal rescue and what we look for in an owner is someone who thinks like the way u do. u can never say its "just a dog."
thanks again for making this fantastic video!!

AWESOME!!! Every word & picture is what I'm about also! Life without a dog is painfully quiet & heartwrenchingly alone! Thanks for speaking in my behalf as well!

Such a wonderful video and quote. Ignorant people really need to be taught that any animal is just as important, if not more, than any human

When I lost everything in this financial crisis, everyone kept telling me to give my dogs to the shelter and "move on." No way. Of all the things I have kept, I have kept my dogs. I would no sooner give them away than I would a dependent child.

@F8doggie Thats wonderful. My cat would be the last thing I ever gave up, and even if i lost everything, i would still keep him

Wonderful!
The author of "Just a Dog" is Richard Biby, btw.... it was apparently first printed in NAVHDA Magazine in the Feb 2006 issue. (North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association)
