if you have two drummers, why not use that to your advantage and create really cool rhythmic patterns and do cool drum stuff as opposed to having both drummers do basically the same thing (im also talking to you Arcade Fire) dont take on two drummers if you arent going to use them (though i do love this song so much)
@theadamlevy have you heard of phil spector's "wall of sound". It this recording idea where he layered up lots and lots of the same instruments till it sounded like a - you guessed it - "wall of sound". Here it's the same kind of principle, the two sets of drums playing (basically) the same thing builds into the bands anthemic style/feel.
I have to imagine that bringing along a live band capable of recreating the sample used on the records live would be very expensive and cumbersome, especially for a band of limited exposure(and revenue) such as the go team. at least they're not just standing in front of a bunch of laptops like some bands.
for those who are looking for the horns on stage... the band used various samples (from a song which i don't know the name of) to create the horn part for this song. for the studio recording of this song, they wrote and recorded guitar, bass, drums, harmonica parts. playing live, they just play along with the pre recorded horn parts.
if anybody knows what song the horns sampled, let me know.
I heard this song and liked it. Unfortunately I haven't liked any other song by the band I've heard, just Junior Kickstart. I wish they had more songs that were similar to this.
"This is ONLY the best song I have ever heard without any lyrics! Great rythm and wind instruments"... Speaking of Wind intruments WHERE THE HELL ARE THEY ON STAGE?!? :(
They use backing tracks, which contain the sounds they can´t reproduce live (the trumpets etc). That´s why the drummers have headphones, so they can hear these tracks perfectly in order to match the tempo.
It was a tough choice for me between these rockers and Massive Attack. I hate when they put so many great bands smooshed up together with no lag time. But I guess it's better to have too many awesome bands than not enough. I gotta say, The Go! Team and Metric have been two of my favorite discoveries this year.
Also, there's a neato in-studio performance by the Thunder, Lightning, Strikers on www.kcr.org in the "Morning Becomes Eclectic" section.
I reaaaaally like this band
They have so much fun playing their music. Something a lot of bands have forgotten to do.

One thing that bothers me is why they changed the music scale down a notch... The original was Bb, this is B scale. Is it easier to perform that way?

why do they need 2 drummers? I can't imagine they do. Is it just cause they wanted a girl drummer and didn't have the heart to give the guy the boot?

So... they're basically playing along to a cd here. Does anyone else feel sorta cheated?
