@LunaEclipse1991 as well as being a great voice actor, he also voices alot of really good characters..like hueges from fullmetal alchemist and Holland from Eureka 7. one of my favs too
@tarkeke it's comedy, but it's very Japanese. If you know the language and culture, then it should be pretty funny. And it also has alotof acitons. Anyway Gintama is really one of the best animes I've watched
WTF are you people talking 'bout?! The English dubbed is terrible! They do put in the accents but the voices cannot capture the character. English voice actors are just not meant for eccentric roles.
@RobinTeenTitansGO1 The fact that it's a western setting alone should make the dub feel more comfortable, but they felt the need to KICK ASS at their OWN performance. It's when they try to copy the original voices when they fail miserably (Miria).
This does not change the fact that this particular dub cast was at least three times more devoted to their jobs than the original cast ever intended to be, and considering the sheer amount of awesomeness in the japanese cast, that's saying a lot.
@RobinTeenTitansGO1 Lol, you're kidding right? There are bad voice actors and there are good voice actors, every country has their share of both. Face it kid, Japanese voice actors aren't perfect and they definetely don't belong in an anime with a setting that takes place in America. You want to see a bad Japanese dub, watch DragonBall Z or Digimon.
@tarkeke Sorry but Goku's Japanese VA is the worse. A full grown man should not sound like a squeaky little boy unless that's what you like. Plus how can you tell if the dialogue is watered down when you're not even fluent in the Japanese languaged. Subs translations aren't accurate.
@Arisainwonderland First off, don't call me a kid. That's really disrespectful. Secondly, I never said that all Japanese Dubs are good; I think that they are very good in this one. I despise the voices for the English, but I know that there are a lot of good English dubs too. Especially Ladd's is terrible. It suits his uncle more than him. Ladd's voice is a lot more smooth and cunning in the Japanese Dub.
@RobinTeenTitansGO1 I disagree with you wholeheartedly on the English dub. Ladd is suppose to be psychotic bloodthirsty masculine and sly. The Japanese ver. made him sound LESS than that. Ladd has to be intimidating so the mobster voice made it WORKED. The Japanese voices just didn't fit with the anime's American gangster setting. IMO they do a pretty poor job at sounding scary. Let's not go in to further argument and just say our sound preferences don't click. Enjoy Baccano however you want.
This is just another anime that sounds better dubbed... I didn't even know there were people who liked the bland, Jap. voice overs. Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Baccano (Italians), Blue Gender, Gunslinger Girl (Italy) are the only animes I've seen yet the characters all sound better in English.
The Genocide Song from Trigun in Jap. "QUilling GU timmmmm...U!" What da fuck?
After hearing Ladd's dub voice, I can't help but think of that cat from Alice in Wonderland... that kind of juxtaposition is unneeded in my mind..
I dunno, I got the giggles from watching Ichi the Killer, so maybe it's all about taste...
Personally, Japanese media freaks me out much more than American movies/shows, so maybe I'm starting to associate evil Japanese voices with the true voice of terror...
Lol, British accents do that for me. XD But I agree, like most dub/sub debates, it all comes down to taste. I just loved the whole 30's accent in the dub however.

Dear God I cannot STAND his Jap voice. In fact, the Japanese dub aks away from the general atmosphere of the show. The dub has the accents which make it SO much better. Although I do admit that Ennis could have had a better VA, all the other chaacters sound great in English.
I guess you are not a big fan of subs in general. Unlike you, I ADORE his Japanese voice actor Fujiwara Keiji. He is really great at playing very eccentric middle age guys. Indeed, Japanese unfortunately do not get the accents, but a lot of the cast is made of top-notch voice actors who have a lot of experience playing over the top roles that this show requires. Ladd and other crazy characters really do sound crazy (esp. Graham by Tomozaku Sugita) Taking away the mood eh, different opinions.
I see. :) Well there are a few series I do think Japanese being spoken is a bit strange, but for this one, I happen to like a lot of the voice actors so it's part of the reason why I like Japanese VA better. D: That's too bad..I liked Graham's crazy screaming. Hehe.
Real fight, yes, they didnt fight long enough. Vino made him jump of, remember? Ladd was pretty excited about fighting him, and if they will ever meet again, its going to be one hell of a fight. Btw Im a Firo fanboy ;)
Maybe so, but I liked the flashback fight scene (which could have been longer too, but what are you gonna do?) in the DVD bonus episodes with Graham Spektor :)
@RedXR The creator of the show himself has stated that if Vino got any more screen time, he would overtake everyone in the show within a single episode. I believe it, and that's why I'm glad he got overall less screentime than Ladd.
I love how they run off together laughing.. XD

Keiji Fujiwara just knocks it out of the park. I love how starts out sounding semi-normal and slowly escalates it straight up to "psychopath" levels.

the jap voice actor for ladd is keiji fujiwara... keiji has always been one of my favorite jap voice actors! and his ladd realy rocks!

The English version of Ladd's was awesome especially when he was talking about old school boxers while he was beating a guy on the food car to death.

I love Ladd's English voice and not just because it reminds me of Bender from Futurama (not the same VA, though).

The english dub just sounds like a bunch of silly disney characters...
