  • ...Hip Hop is a "Culture". Music is a very "Small part of it". The media exploits that small percentage or maybe, "They really don't know" that Hip Hop is a "Culture"....Its The Movement that Changed America FOREVER!!!....

  • Ice cube! Can we get you to do an architecture show? Travel the world? Could bring some intellectualism into the ghetto!

  • Love the lines - "So What???" "The 110? That's gangsta traffic. Gotta know where u at." and "Maybe they're just mad that they don't live here."

That's right Cube... 110 South baby... City of Carson.

    jp

  • song in the intro?

  • @azzzberg BIRD IN THE HAND - DEATH CERTIFICATE ALBUM ...

  • lol, ice cube the new fragrance for men

  • we watched this in my architecture class today....

  • STUCK IN THE "GANGSTA TRAFFIC" LMFAO!

  • Great video. Loved the cinematography. Very visually appealing. Also, I haven't been to LA yet, so this was a nice snippet. I like how Cube narrated the visual style into words. Architecture always amazes me.

  • Nice nok tyren

  • at 1:54 you can hear a skip in the audio editing. 'Problem wit / LA?"

  • How weird would it be if Ice Cube was an architect instead of gangsta rapper.

  • "Before I did rap music, I studied architectural drafting," cool. But "The Eames made structure and nature one. This is going green 1949-style, bitch" ends predictably.

  • "Gangsta Traffic"

  • “Who are these people who got a problem with LA? Maybe they just mad they don’t live here.” lol i like that

  • It's so refreshing to make comments without Anal Annie BPJ blocking me. This video is great. You never consider the architectural aspect of LA. I always wished the city was built where Santa Monica is. People on the west side avoid downtown LA.

  • Not really a Cube fan. Rap mostly leaves me cold just like country does. But he's cool here.

  • This is a great video. As an Angeleno by birth, I love it. 110, that's gangsta traffic, lol.

  • Nine people are just mad they don't live here.

  • "Who are these people who got a problem with L.A.? Maybe they just mad they don't live here."

  • I love that three of these spots are in INGLEWOOD. Home sweet home.

  • "This is going green, 1949 style bitch. B'lee dat!"

  • that's cool i didn't know ice cube studied architecture!

  • this would be PERFECT for san andreas

  • Like sampling, taking what exists...

  • I LOVE THIS! Brilliant!

  • Wow my 3 favorite things: LA, 90s Hip Hop and Mid Century Architecture. Incredible

  • Comment removed

  • I love L.A. I don't like the traffic, but the traffic is bad in many places. So alas....what is wrong with it? xo

  • Wow, beautiful windows!!

  • :D

gangsta rap made him do it

  • This should be a series. Like Grand Designs.

  • i lol'd

  • the description is longer than the video

  • all those years of doing songs with KoRn led to this

  • "The beauty of a living thing is not the atoms that go into it, but the way those atoms are put together." -Carl Sagan

  • @Protector0ne: "This rap be made of stardust, yo."

  • Lipstick City!

  • a different side of ice cube dude.

  • The 405 vs the 110: bougie traffic vs gangsta traffic. Awesome!

  • ...this is Totally on my frequency, from PST to Architecture Peace ; )

  • "A Bird in the Hand" Cubes BEEESTEST Album By Faaar

  • I second this Discovery Channel - please pick this up. It would be phenomenal

  • Goddam its a brand new payback

  • This shit is awesome!

  • Yay yay!!!

  • The fact that our OG gangster rap artists know about architecture shows that America is the land of the great.

  • @sonnybrown Ice Cube is the first rapper who talks bout architecture. This shows nuthin.

America: Land of the thief, home of the slave

  • @sonnybrown I would say it shows that despite a lot of idiots (for example Republican politicians), there are still many great persons, like Cube.

  • @F575M How about Ron Paul? He's a Republican running for president and he's a brilliant man. All the others are complete idiots, but Ron's the fuckin man though.

  • I'd loved to see him do Paris. "Shit, dees buttresses be flyin', yo."

  • @TheGrerex oh fuck you

  • @TheGrerex ...heh,heh!!...

  • Yay Yay!

  • love. i.c.!

  • "This is "GOING GREEN"1949 style B'TCH! BALIEVE DAT!!!!!"

Gotta Love Ice.... He's one cool Cat!!!!

  • SO FUCKING WHAT IF ICE CUBE isnt doing that gangsta shit, hes got a family n children n leaving that gang bullshit behind!

"Im making Movie Money, while you still investing in rhymes" - Ice Cube

hes becoming more succesful and more versatile.. if he makes Movies.. shut the fuck up n enjoy them.. Ice Cube.. fans like me(us) always got your back, change or no change #forreal

  • @NeroFlyFly ya it's no shit that he was just hustling idiots to make money. same thing goes for every type of artist these days. nobody actually follows or believes his fantasy music, and if they do that is why they are poor and buying rims.

  • TOO KOOL

  • Those guys at 0:47 are like "oh shit was that Ice cube rolling by" . Seriously, brilliant rapper though. Love your music.

  • The man is a class act and these houses are fantastic.

  • NWA = N-gga Wit' Architecture.

  • @josephscott80

    LMAO

  • this guy is amazing

  • Cube has been my favorite rapper since NWA, Jackin for Beats, The Predator...he was just the illest, even when he stopped slowing down rapping and just being a symbol for angry Black pride....now he's onto the architecture side of things, go head, Cube!

  • Argueably the greatest rapper ever!

  • Proudly not living anywhere near L.A. for over 30 years.

  • In the direction he is walking at the end of the video there is a little plastic red elephant for kids to play on. It's an awesome detail of the house, I highly suggest visiting it if you ever have the chance (the house and the elephant :) )

  • imagine 45 minutes of "east coast vrs west coast", .......not rappers, but architects of the modern movement. this is as if kenneth frampton had recorded some beats of exquisite gangsta rap.

  • Thats so funny, Ice cube ain't no Gangsta, hes a BArch!

  • he really does "rep that west". I got all choked up when (the guy I had a crush on while in NWA) he talked about that.

This is just an example of what old school rappers are about also.

Anyway, I'm not jealous of the west coast or LA just his knowledge of this....and he doesn't need to stop doing TV, movies and such

  • word

  • Cube the intellectual, this I like. dump that hody doody bull shit tv show and start teaching people.

  • Although I'm glad I don't live in L.A. any longer (due to the violence, traffic, and pretentious BS etc...) - I loved this video!

  • damn so many cool people are supporting pacific standard time im so going to make 2 day tour of this when more exhibits open, i have only been to the hammertime one :D

  • wtf does this have to be about eazy e?

  • This is a great short! Mao so loves midcentury modern, nice to see people giving the Eames props...of course you can find this style everywhere but more and more cities and towns are leveling these beautiful buildings to build more "classical" stylized structures. What has happened to diversity?

  • LA has god awful traffic, very overpriced, extremely overrated. Many drug addicts, liars, many gang members, much violence etc. It isn't like what the movies or silly TV shows depict - quite the opposite.

  • @Snackay give me a fucking break. There's shit like that everywhere you go. There is worse traffic in new york and new jersey. Los Angeles like everyother city hasthe good and the bad. I bet you live in a nice suburb where everything is peachy.

  • @Dani3lism new york and hayward california

  • Does anyone know the title of the music at the beginning?

  • Indeed he holds a wonderful conceptual knowledge of experiential architecture. I am impressed he displaced himself from this path and into something oddly similar--music.

  • Can't wait to move to L.A.!!!

  • @MJFCN93 LA is a giant hellhole with lung-killing air pollution, horrendous traffic and many drug addicts and liars.

  • @Snackay Just like the rest of the Earth so I don't see your point, and you are very wrong Eazy E did not spread HIV/AIDS to no one they've never tracked down one person that he had sex with that had the disease and his children do not have the disease neither.

  • MOOOOOOOOORE!!!

  • "This is going green 1949 style, bitch!" Truly brilliant! Pick this up as a series please Discovery Channel!

  • @KingPrince1103 ok thanks brother

  • What is the title of the music from 0:02 to 0:17 please ??? thanks

  • @turkiye9333 The song playing "A Bird in The Hand" by Ice Cube from his album "Death Certificate".

  • This is awesome i like this

  • LOVED this!

  • So, you're going to do a series, yes? This was wonderful!

  • I'm crying. Why am i crying?

  • Great!

  • Not this East Coast/West Coast bullshit again...

  • As a South Central native I must say that this is pure art at its finest!

  • Out of the box. Love this!

  • LA representin' Discovering the hidden treasures of the city of angels :)

  • @mallix2000 We need to make knowledge relevant to every receptive audience (and hopefully audiences that aren't receptive) - and to every subsequent generation. Some things - like the abacus - don't translate. Other things - like great design - need translation. This video is an example of that. I'm not much of a rap fan but I totally appreciated the way he connected sampling with his love of modern, modular architecture.

  • @renaissancewriter if he really loved this kind of architecture why's he living in a big kak mansion? I think this is a blatant way of making money for money's sake - much like everything else media related in America. It's blunt, crass and if people be ignorant about this kind of thing anyway then it's pearls before swine IMHO. Ice Cube brings it all down to his level and people end up watching it for the wrong reasons. Modern society doesn't allow for unique things - it all ends up blended

  • Fuck, this is so good! More please!

  • nice editing hommie!!

  • Anyone who dislikes this vid will get a visit from Ice Cube. A special, painful visit. Those 2 dislikes up there? They don't answer their phones no more...

  • Ice is a boss...

    Much respect to him....

  • Love to live in a Case Study House? Check out Crosby Doe dot com. But if you're in Australia and California is just too far, give us a call. Maybe we can find you a mid-century house that's an eyesore to some and paradise to the lucky few.

  • @ModernHouseTVCs really?! using youtube comments to advertise?! quality...

  • Great video but why the b&w? The Eames House has a wonderful Mondrian-like color block paint job, it's a shame that part of the video is in b&w. More please!

  • @pacificstandardtime the upload is grand and we appreciate it, but can you please correct the info. inglewood does not have a blvd it is inglewood ave.. Cheers

  • I want to talk to him about Le Corbusier.

  • Yo ICE Cube you're sit'n Ray's chair, cheeze it before the Eames come home!

  • LA, baby!!

  • This is awsome I wanna see more!

  • He needs to make more of these and talk, it would be very interesting to see how he knows L.A.

  • Props to Eichler too bitch!

  • The 110 Gangsta traffic...funny. This is awesome. Well done!

  • dig

  • Today was a good day

  • Truly beautiful storytelling guys. You did a great job.

  • What's the beat playing in the beginning? Up to 0:20

  • @kermaleivos

Found it. It's 50 cent - The Mechanic

  • @kermaleivos A Bird in The Hand

  • i remember when ice cube was hard as fuck. now he makes kids movies.

  • @zippyzee Your point?

  • Brilliant, Ice. More of this, and less of that Are We Ready jive.

  • i would hella watch a full season of Ice Cube on Architecture and Design, someone make that happen

  • @b3n4d4m totally agree... "one man´s eyesore is another man´s paradox"

  • @b3n4d4m SOMEONE FUND THIS!

  • Dopeness!!!

  • The 405 UZI Traffic...epic

  • "before I did rap music, I studied architectural drafting". briiiilliant.

  • LOL I love the ending

I would love to live in LA

  • Ice Cube 4or life

Ice Cube if u seein this visit my pg plzzz

  • I Love Cube to death but I have a hard time believeing that he studied architectural drafting before NWA!

  • @dreamkasts Cube went to ASU its public knowledge.

  • YES!!

  • this was fuckin awesome

  • why does he call me a bitch to make a point about something? I guarantee that he didnt write his own text. except the bitch thing probably. #tool #noirony #poseur

  • @xxxdtox it's an expression and they way he talks. and what's up with your hashtags? #desperate

  • haha I had no idea he studied to be an architect. I wonder if Eazy E worked in terra cotta. Maybe the D.O.C did amazing things with stained glass.

  • @kemicon Easy E spread a lot of HIV.

  • @Snackay um no eazy e in building go get aids from somewhere else

  • Comment removed

  • @Snackay Learn to spell his name before you educate us all on what Eazy E did. Fact is Eazy brought awareness of HIV to the black community, when there was NONE. He did this through his noble final letter.

  • @kemicon He studied drafting, not to be an architect.

  • @kemicon He didn't study to be an architect. He said he studied achitectual DRAFTING. There's a difference. Drafting takes 1-2 years to complete. To become an architect you need at least 6 years of post secondary education.

  • For what it's worth, neither Charles nor Ray Eames were licensed architects. There's indeed a difference between architectural drafting and architecture, but not one that takes anything away from either the Eames' or Ice Cube's message.

  • this is the greatest shit since fuck the police.

  • nicely done video. coulda done without the purple prose tho.....

  • Um. I love Ice Cube even more now.

  • Yeah awesome!

  • any body know the name of he song at the start??? its annoyn me

  • mind blown!

  • and there was an idiot saying he isnt a real G because he studied. oh ok so all rappers gotta be dumbasses or what??? to educate yourself is the best thing you can do. no matter what you do after that. im feeling glad ice cube studied.

  • @ps895 totally agree....i have heard that tupac was an avid shakespeare reader.

  • @odinmp5 yes thats right. he went in baltimore school for the arts where he had literature and he read a lot of books thats why he was so intellectual. dude he even had theatre and danced ballett... haha thats incredible.

  • @ps895 Rofl 2Pac went from a ballerina and Shakespeare actor to shooting two cops and screaming "THUG LIFE".

  • @Zero14811111 you mean because i wanted to say he was intelligent, well do you think he wasnt a smart one? shooting at 2 cops is definitely wrong but it doesnt change the fact that he was smart because i was talking about his earlier life and apart from this, there was a reason why he shot those cops and not because he wanted to feel like a ''G''. and this ''thug life'' image means more than just hanging in the backstreets. for 2pac it meant some more it was a mentality he lived

  • Way to Go Ice Cube! Colleague.

  • very cool!!

  • Wow, very impressive. But he sure seems defensive about Los Angeles. I don't know if his assumption about the dim view others hold of the place holds ground. And to say people are jealous about not living there sorta leaves it on the wrong tone, but otherwise very powerful. Nice stuff!

  • @megaforcemedia if you love something so much, why wouldn't you defend it? you must live in nantucket. you should visit LA sometime.

  • @megaforcemedia its like when people talk about Oakland and dont know a thing about the city

  • Ice Cube for President.

  • Ah Mr. Cube- you are inspirational. Thanks for showing off the coolest place in LA.

  • I start off bougy and transform to gangster. Definitely that vibe
