@hsnan009 Kubuntu and Ubuntu are the same OS, Kubuntu is just a KDE interference for Ubuntu rather then its default Gnome UI.

@wmlacy Its not a matter of "learning" linux, its more of a matter of getting used to it. You used to have to learn the commands to use the computer but now using a fairly popular linux distro (such as Debian, linux mint, opensuse or ubuntu just to name a few) is not really that much more difficult than using windows or OS X. Just diferant. but, with anything, just give it some time, and you will get used to it. LInux mint with kde is good to start with. message me if you need help.

yeah ... i am quite sure you can use it very comfortably .

But i cant answer "is it better than openSuse" , as choosing a linux distro is a very personal preference ... you have to try both and see by your self .

Debian is rock solid stable distro , that means that the system wont crash unless you crash it yourself or in a very rare cases, but you will have to use some-how outdated ( old ) software .

In openSuse you will use updated software but it is not as stable as debian .

Debian is a good OS but is tricky to learn, nice effects. Were they built in or did you download them?

They are integrated, u just need the compiz manager(search for it in System->Administration->Synapt­ic Package Manager, in the search bar write compiz manager). In Ubuntu for sure are there, not sure in Debian because I never installed it.

Can any one HELP me, I have a problem with my ubuntu 9.04, When it boots up the login sound gets stuck in a loop and never stops. Any help? Oh yeah, It works fine on my other computer. My hp laptop has a built in surround sound, Altec Lansing. maybe that has something to do with it...

Does it boot up ok in safe mode?

On the grub screen choose the option to boot in verbose mode. The onscreen messages should tell you what the problem is,

My only other idea is to load another distro on a live cd. From the live cd distro open the file manager and copy the files you need to a usb HDD, then reinstall ubuntu.

Upgrading from Lenny to Squeeze yesterday broke xorg - after I got that fixed (just a few hours of my life wasted) I found that Compiz is broke now. Have a google and you'll find that it's sh!tting everybody's system up. I just installed Jaunty... ironically enough, I wish Debian was as stable as this. Releasing material 2-3 years out of date and calling it stable is easy. After 8 years of Debian I'm done with it.

Actually I tried it and it says the video card is blacklisted.

I forced with "SKIP_CHECKS=yes compiz" and the result was pretty bugged. The only effects that ran fine were the wobbly windows and water effect.
