its really really really fucken difficult to pull off wheelies on bikes like these.... I've got an ex400, and used to have a honda GL400 (shaft drive) .... just too bloody heavy and not enough torque to pull off a clean wheelie.... and its fkn easy to stuff it up and come down really hard on the front wheel..... aaaaaweeeesome wind-up on these bikes tho, exceptionally quick 0-100kph ..... top speed on my ex400 is about 220kph give or take, been over 200kph with a passenger a few times...
0-60 in 3 secs? u must be joking. a ducati monster S4R S does it in 3.47 (Fast Bikes issue 212) and a KTM Super Duke R does it in 3.15 (same reference).
wow. i guess 1/4 mile times would be much different though. trying keeping the front wheel down prevents more powerful bikes from posting a low 0-60 time.
The other thing is that those bikes have a lot of top end power and much, much higher top speed than a ninja 500. A monster s4r can pull and accelerate past 100mph+ with ease, where as the ninja 500 is kind of slow and struggling at that point (At least with my fat ass on it). It probably depends on the rider who's netting the 1/4 mile times too. A good rider on a 500cc bike can do wonders opposed to a less skilled rider on a bigger bike.
Ive had my ninja 500 for about a year I think everything is stock on it but i cant get it off the ground dont understand what yall mean by slipping the clutch and realising and stuff?
slipping the clutch can be dangerous if you are not ready. if you 'roll on the power' (open the throttle quickly) you won't get the 500 to lift. slipping the clutch in first gear: pull away slowly until the clutch is fully out and you are comfortable. Then pull in the clutch nearly all the way, blip the throttle and relase the clutch swiftly, the front wheel should rise quickly. Be sure to shut the throttle a little to stop yourself flipping backwards. I'm getting much better now on my GSXR600.
i tuned mine up a bit, i added a tooth to the front sprocket to gear it up slightly, then fitted a k&n induction kit and fitted 13.5% larger main jets, and stripped off all unessassary weight. it really shifted then. bought another 600 now so i've stripped the 500 down, poss streetfight project. we'll see
You should top out at that weight. Depending on wind conditions and the condition of your bike. i'm 165lbs and i hit 130 (According to speedo) on mine when i had it.
my POS ninja 500 will get up but not high enough to balance. It was my first street bike so there aren't many mods on it. Now I ride a 02 honda shadow 750. It will go faster than a ninja 500r and the cops tend not to watch for that style bike.
"Crap! I have an EX500, and its almost IMPOSSIBLE to pop a wheelie on it!! i even dropped a tooth in back to give me more torque and it wont do it! how did you do it???"
you obviously dont ride you do +3 back -1 front if you want to do that shit. never - in back
It's not impossible. You have to pop the clutch in first gear to get it up. It's actually not too hard on an EX as the power band is flat and it won't catch you off guard.
twice as much i would think. my old 500 flat out on the motorway could do 130+mph and it was much faster than my m8's Yamaha fzr400rr. After selling my R6 i'm goin back on this bike cuz with a bit of fiddling they can be gr8! and it costs £100 TPFT now with 4 years no claims, bargin
I can do the same thing on my stock Ninja 500R, and only by slipping the clutch. Just do everything gentle & gradually when slipping the clutch, so you get an idea how the bikes is going to react. On your 1st attempts start slipping the clutch at lower RPM just to pop the 1st wheel a bit up. Then gradually higher RPM, in the next attempts as you gain more confidence.
If you're driving up a hill a stock can do it no problem. You don't even need to use the clutch, just yank back on the handle bars, and hammer it in first gear.
lol i was only 17 in that vid, i jus slipped the clutch (jus get some balls and revv and release in 1st/2nd gear) i've atchually still got that bike and im gonna use it to learn to wheelie properly so if u watch this space in summer i might do a proper vid
wel son, (this is god) i guess im just great! nah im awful really, i just use the clutch in 1st gear at about 10mph, bring the revvs up and release, but be careful cuz its snappy when you do that
Crap! I have an EX500, and its almost IMPOSSIBLE to pop a wheelie on it!! i even dropped a tooth in back to give me more torque and it wont do it! how did you do it???
This was so retarded that I flagged it.

He's not lying, you can look up the specs. Cyclist Magazine was able to manage 3.76 0-60mph with a 12.73 second 1/4 mile at 102mph.

Ninja 500 0-60 time is 3.7 secs. Top speed 130mph.
JayT98 3 years ago
The top speed is not 130mph. I owned one and it would not go past about 120mph.

I also own a 2001 500R and i hit 128. You must have had a dud. That or you're fat.
