AHHH,....i love this!!! I was in the Marine reserves and was in Hotel company 2nd battalion at Parris Island. I graduated March 1991!! I love all the pictures.....this is SACRED.....!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
God Bless All Marines, and i can only hope one day i will be honored enough to become a marine and serve my country true. Semper Fi till the day that I die,
God bless you for posting this! And how lucky you are to have a Father who served in WWII as a Marine!
HELL of a war chest too! But one question...I saw an earlier pic where he had several"1st time, 2nd time" etc rifle expert badges, but the plaque showed him as "sharpshooter" in both rifle and pistol....what happened?
And SEMPER FUCKIN' FI!!" to your outstanding Father, Top Kirkbride! OOOH-RAH DEVIL DOG!!
Thank you for sharing as it brings back memories of my youth. My Father, Mother and two Uncles served in WWII with the Marine Corps, myself in Vietnam. Alcohol and tobacco nearly took me also. God Bless.
@Sehoy1 Thanks you, sir. My dad would have appreciated your comment. It seemed to me every time he sang, it was like the first time. He never had to look at music or notes to remember ALL three verses.
beautiful rendition...THANK you for posting...our whole family just sits and listens to your Daddy sing (me, dh, and 2 daughters almost 4y.o. and 2 y.o.)
I love the photo of the Marine on the range with the rifle on his right arm and a cigar in his left. I love my Military but adore the Marine Corps. Semper fi, Sir.
I went to alcohol treatment at norfolk,Va.Thank God the Marines do take care of their own. They wanted me to re-inlist but God had other ideals.I have been sober 28 years now thank you Marine Corp.
You're totally right about your dad. When I read the words that he never does anything "half assed," memories came rushing back of those men who led us, who'd served in WW2 and Korea, when we were in Vietnam. I squared away a lot of fox holes following those words.
its OORAH not HOOAH thats army, they tried to copy the marines as well did the national guard with OOAH...wasn't trying to be rude but im a United States Marine as well and saw your comment and had to correct it for you...Semper Fi, Do or Die; First to Fight, and Last to Die!
how wonderful to have been able to enhance his original recording, so impressive!!! my two year old daughter loves this, we just went to "uncle tommy's" graduation in Parris island and she is in love with Marines!
When he joined the Marine Corps before World War II, it was cool to smoke and drink, plus it was pretty stressful being shot at in 3 wars. That finally took its toll is my guess.
Amazing. I am joining the Marine Corps, and Have been looking to find a version of the Hymn to memorize with, and this is it. Thanks so much for sharing.
My grand father was from PITTSBURGH and his son was in the Navy stationed in the Pannama Canal Zone about 1944. I've tried singing you can find me by searching Chuck Kirkbride. Great clear recording. What was the original recording medium?
Thanks for taking the time to listen to my dad. He was a Marine's Marine. The original recording was done in a metal disk 78rpm. It was all scratching and clicky, but with all the good digital software we have today, I was able to clean it up considerably. Glad you enjoyed. Take care, Tom Kirkbride
Great recording ty for sharing.

Finally, a rendition of the Marine Corps hymn featuring all three stanzas of the song. Most artists only sing the first two stanzas period.

Some people work an entire lifetime and wonder if they ever made a difference to the world. But the Marines don't have that problem.
