As for the humanitarian aid, it accounts for less than 0.5% of your GDP, and buys more goodwill in the countries in goes to than you can put a price on. Many of these struggling countries are being targeted by Islamic extremists as a breeding ground for the next generation of countries to hate the west. Extremism is borne of poverty and despair.
