@portalman1881 Honestly, I like to say this when I use the wrench, "WORK D*MMIT"! And yes, from experience, down here in Texas, everything works if you whack it with a wrench.
Nice video, I love your choice of "enemy spotted" music.
Also, it's interesting to see a "half-roaming" engineer... Most engis I see sit by their sentries all game, tempting my knife with their sultry backs.
Man, your tips are still very useful. Engi always was my favorite class (even before I bought a game), so thank you for making me believe that this class is still better then others
I'm doing all of what you suggested and i still get my ass handed to me by pretty much everyone. Scouts outrun my sentries, spies troll me by backstabbing me the moment I leave the base, demomen nuke the hell out of my gear, pyros are insane, even the medics get cocky once in a while. Do you have any videos on the best places to put sentries on the popular maps? Also, someone told me I was an idiot for shooting team mates but I was spychecking. Is that the right mindset?
I think you have to hit 3 or 4 for the little remote thing, and then you hit what number for the device you want. Then you walk around with it as you would with a weapon and mouse1 to place it.
I love the "I eat Spies" comment, but he wandered WAY too much. Sap and stabs galore coming up. Yeah, don't stay right next to your sentry, but if you get too far away, Spies will be all over it like Rosie O'Donnel on a Sandvich. Also the comment on forgetting about cloaked Spies running away. Yeah, forget about the Spy. He must have gone away, right? Focus on buildAAAARRRGH! That's a knife in your back, Mr. Redneck.
It is also a good idea to have a demoman plant mines around the sentries as if a spy saps it, the demoman can make the mines explode, hopefully killing the spy. The best map for this would be 2fort.
Nice guide. Few things just to add for those who dont know and it isnt blatantly obvious to; hitting a building with your wrench while it's deploying (being 'built', not upgraded) does make it deploy faster. This takes no metal, just time.
And NEVER EVER sandwich yourself between your dispenser and sentry. Its a mistake that many engineers make. Your sentry cant shoot through your dispenser, so an enemy can take cover behind your dispenser... While your sentry gun locks on to said enemy, and s

another thing; You should include that when spies play a sapping animation when they... well sap. It basically looks like whoever they're disguised as putting one of their hands on the sentry/dispenser/teleporter. Really useful when there's a large group and you're trying to find a disguised spy.
i like the way your going its great but you do have some bits done wrong like i always plant my dispenser near my sentry so i can keep my sentry repaird without loseing my metal and i usaly put my sentrys in the corners so i am safe from spy (well maybe i am depending on the spys skill) and remember i always place a dispenser so i can get a pryo to keep an eye on sapping addicted spys and make the pryo keep his ammo
I disagree with the "always use wrench" bit, especially when you get to ~5:55 . Point whoring sappers is one thing, but they will eventually destroy your sentry faster than you can destroy them. You had two engies there, but that rarely happens in game. Were you using the shotgun, you would've killed him before he even sapped your sentry.
1:49 find a spot that is away from your sentry, so your teammates will keep to pop-up in front of pyro. on battle like yours it`s VERY rare, but it`s really a bad habbit to place teleport exit far away from sentry. especcially for 'offencife engy' when your teleport is close to enemy's base.
shotgun and pistol are the most underrated weapons in the game. they have great accuracy speed and damage. and in many cases ammo is plentiful. i keep them both reloaded at all times and use them often with many classes.
The shotgun I'll give you - that thing is absolutely VITAL when playing Engineer, Pyro, Soldier, and Heavy because of their main weapons' limitations/slow speed/reload/what-have-you.
But the pistol? Maybe I haven't put enough into trying to use it, but that thing is pretty useless most of the time. At long range it's inaccurate, and at mid-range your shotgun/scattergun is just as strong. I rarely use the pistol unless I'm making a mad backpedal to safety. Am I using it wrong or what?
You kind of are...my opinion is that the pistol does loads more damage at long range than the shotgun. It's faster and does about 12 dmg a shot while shotgun does 9, but it is so much faster than the shotgun/scattergun. I only use the scattergun at close - mid range. and mid - long range I use pistol. And when you have 212 bullets to spam at people, really its that great. Shame that scout only has 48. I run out of ammo before I know it.
you have 212 ammo with the pistol. it has decent accuracy even at long range. ive seen it crit 4 or 5 times in a row for VERY long range kills. also it has very fast reload time so why not make sure of all the ammo.
shotgun is your best bet if you run into anyone unexpectedly. wrench if they are unaware.
pistol however you can shoot from pretty much ANY range and any class and be relatively safe while consistently doing damage.
it's just a shotgun at long range. it deals nice crit damage, but alone, the bulles are weak, more or less, a distraction weopon, like the flare gun it's good weopon to make the enemy retreat for a dispencer/ medic.
This guide mainly focuses on defending points in an offensive way. It's a good guide, just not ideal. Your guide focuses on WHEN the enemy is unaware of your dispenser. For maximum effect, use a trick teleporter. The enemy will be tricked to use it and gets pwned when he sees a lv3 sentry and an engineer from far away with a pistol. That is, if you're not the ONLY engineer in your team. A tip? Never put your teleporter exit right next to your sentry. A spy's gonna fu
Also, emphasizing the power of the pistol is also very important. Nowadays i just Build a teleporter in the middle of nowhere, and just use my pistol to shoot whatever comes out of the exit. Once i almost killed a spy coming out, but he sapped my dispenser and ran zigzag toward me. He owned me with facestab, but my sentry was at the gravel pit control point's other corner, so he got pwned trying to pwn me. It was hilarious, but i don't record/upload anything on Youtube. It's a self-golden code.
I was a engineer once on 2fort and a medic decided he wanted to camp with me I have to say ubering a engineer saves his sentry many times and saves his life if a uber comes in :)
@DankillerGTAhero4 omg do you really reply to my comment that I wrote 1 year ago? ^^ Sure, there wouldn't be a TF² if there was no TFC, but since TF² is an improvement of TFC, it has to be better ;) "sucks" may be kind of hard, but would you not say a cellphone from samsung which was sold 10 years ago would suck, compared to the new ones?
@afkathome You're a dumbass. I realize this comment is from a year ago but it's obvious you didn't play TFC more than the POSSIBLE (which I even doubt) like, 2 seconds you stepped into a game and made a blanket assertion based on like 1 round of 2fort. TFC was one of the most versatile games I've ever played over my 10 year+ career in online gaming. If you didn't like CTF, there was A/D. If you didn't like A/D there were custom co-op puzzle maps. If you didn't like those (cont. in 2nd comment)
@afkathome well, here's a list of maps which each have a unique style of gameplay, not to mention the tons of others that IMPROVE on these unique styles: Murderball, minigolf, hunted, rock2, dustbowl, well, push, epicenter, Charge_r, flagrun, Curse, K_thegame, cube, canalzone, conc maps, jump maps, king of the hill. Valve Hammer Editor (if you even know what is) was so versatile. And oh did I mention how the balance was better? Let's get into that. Sentry guns in TF2 are (cont. in next comment)
@afkathome SLIGHTLY too powerful. 2 or more good engies can easily cause an endless stalemate, espECIALLY on ctf maps. Not in TFC. If the engy wasn't at his sentry, even a scout could take it down easily with the nailgun which made the game 10 times less turtle prone. Also, heavies weren't unstoppable dickheads. So basically you don't know what youre talking about. TFC was fun, was versatile as HELL, and IMO is just as good if not better than TF2 if you compare it to the time they were released.
@afkathome You have never played them both, now everybody is hating you, Shut the fuck up. You need to go in your closet you 8 year old dick. Thumbs that comment down, thumbs this up so he knows hes a fucking dick.
@Nutty354 Insulting me because of a comment I wrote more than a year ago really boosts your E-Penis, doesn't it? Well, at least in your eyes ;)
And about the "8 year old dick", don't compare people to yourself, you little fanboy brat with your thumbsUp-longing, tiny brain and your limited vocabulary.
There is nothing more sad than a little troll on youtube just searching for comments to insult others and then begging for thumbs up :)
If you sit by the sentry with a dispenser, its called tanking. It works most of the time, depending on your team. It works very well against, say, a heavy and a pyro at the same time.
I dont quite understand...why drop everything to stop the medic? I know if he gets someone ubered alot of damage can be done but is it really THAT important?
I'm not exactly the most experienced player...at all...in fact I've only played my friend's copy of the game. FOrgive me if I'm underestimating the power of a medic to an engineer.
Medics heal. That's it. So many times I will see people fight the Heavy instead of the Medic healing him. You can't kill what is being healed faster than being hurt.
The wrench is a huge crit magnet. generally I prefer using the wrench close range over the shotgun, but the pistol is a good weapon. I use the shotgun when I want to do good damage but the wrench doesn't have the range and the pistol won't do that damage area I'm looking for.
I don't think the wrench is for everything else, even though it gets the most crits out of any weapon, mainly due to the fact that you'll get torn apart by Heavies, Demomen and Soldiers. Probably medics too, the saw is quite strong. And the sniper's kukri is scary as well.
A dumb tactic I use is to set up a sentry, upgrade it and lemming myself (In the case of the game I was playing, it was 2Fort so a simple run attempt at the enemy intel base was ok for this)
First before building use 1-5 seconds (nto more) to look around for enemies, next see if there are good ammo boxes/ressuply areas around, if not build dispencer first, atart buildign a sentry, upgrade DISPENCER to lv 3, then the sentry, and finally the tele exit (entrance should be place in the start of the game at
the exit of your spawn. next thing, your not a normal combat class, dont run around shoting people, unless you know ther not looking at you adn dont leave your base unattended.
Wrenches should only be used in combat if you're in the middle of building. In this video the guy chases after a spy with the wrench and the spy manages to backstab someone. If he used the shotgun the spy would be dead.
Also, a sentry and dispenser combo will work in small areas since you won't need to be healed if pyros rush.
Leave 100 metal in your pockets while upgrading in case it gets attacked unless large ammo spawns nearby.
lol i like how you say "perfect example of why you should scout before build", and then run straight into a build only to get your sg destroyed again.
I;m sorry but this wasnt very good to be honest. Throughout the video I counted 3 kills (2 medics + 1 spy) and around 4 or so deaths that were easily avoidable (not counting the time u randomly ran in to point A). Your sentry did literally nothing. It was badly placed and I don't think it got more than 1 or two kills. You should have talked about sentry placement a lot more, and it seems to be something you suck at. Also talk about offensive engie, as its very effective if pulled of.
That was a great tutorial, you are a good engie. A few minutes into the video I was thinking of the despenser thing, then you did it at the end of the video. I like how you used your wrench most of the time and it was affective.
Yeah, I agree too - most players on pub servers don't notice things like that.
I also disagree with what you said about swinging your wrench randomly when a spy cloaks - good spies tend to walk in a random direction directly after cloaking in order to fool you. However, in the situation that you killed that spy right before he was fully cloaked is perfectly applicable.
this is a really good tutorial, not just because it shows pointers for Engie (never thought of that gun/tele spot, didn't know small metal respawned faster) it was a really good gameplay match
what did you record this with? i want sound in my recordings but not my voice.

Ahhh Medic and Engineer. Quite evenly matched in a one on one.
Finkster5 2 years ago
unless medic has blutsauger and your caught reloading...
jpptgaiv 2 years ago
If you sit by the sentry with a dispenser, its called tanking. It works most of the time, depending on your team. It works very well against, say, a heavy and a pyro at the same time.
blahboy335 2 years ago
Just have to watch out for those demo men. 3 stickys can land by you real fast and your do for.

Videogamer0011001011 2 years ago
Medics heal. That's it. So many times I will see people fight the Heavy instead of the Medic healing him. You can't kill what is being healed faster than being hurt.

wrench ftw
snozzcumbers 2 years ago
When u are an engineer.... is it smart to ALWAYS have the wrench as the weapon u use.... ??
djii11 2 years ago
The wrench is a huge crit magnet. generally I prefer using the wrench close range over the shotgun, but the pistol is a good weapon. I use the shotgun when I want to do good damage but the wrench doesn't have the range and the pistol won't do that damage area I'm looking for.
dunch34 2 years ago
Pistol for long range.
Shotgun for pyro, spy, scout and other melee class
Wrench for everything else
Laur3ntLapo 2 years ago
Lol late reply
I don't think the wrench is for everything else, even though it gets the most crits out of any weapon, mainly due to the fact that you'll get torn apart by Heavies, Demomen and Soldiers. Probably medics too, the saw is quite strong. And the sniper's kukri is scary as well.
dunch34 2 years ago
A good offensive sentry is one that is never upgraded but moved forward as you go along.
Kalostaphor 2 years ago
That type of sentry is good unless you're setting up a forward base, which is more likely to last than the alternative.
dunch34 2 years ago
i have the same problem i have n idea how to spin it on my ps3 version
donkeydonk127 2 years ago
is it possible to rotate your biuldings in ps3?
quesadilla2008 2 years ago
probably, try using the alternate fire button or whatever makes heavy's gun spin.
NinjaKow0 2 years ago
A dumb tactic I use is to set up a sentry, upgrade it and lemming myself (In the case of the game I was playing, it was 2Fort so a simple run attempt at the enemy intel base was ok for this)
It's dumb but it's probably faster than killin.
Shadow772craig 2 years ago
That is a stupid tactic, yes.
What happens when that spy comes around to sap your sentry?
What happens when your friends haven't upgraded THEIR sentries?
What happens when you COULD have

zaxthedax 2 years ago
not very good tips tbf..
rodgeriguez 3 years ago
First before building use 1-5 seconds (nto more) to look around for enemies, next see if there are good ammo boxes/ressuply areas around, if not build dispencer first, atart buildign a sentry, upgrade DISPENCER to lv 3, then the sentry, and finally the tele exit (entrance should be place in the start of the game at
the exit of your spawn. next thing, your not a normal combat class, dont run around shoting people, unless you know ther not looking at you adn dont leave your base unattended.
rimlanin 3 years ago
Some bad tips in this video....
Overall, below average tips.

you used your wrench alot of times where it would be better to use your shotgun.

lol i like how you say "perfect example of why you should scout before build", and then run straight into a build only to get your sg destroyed again.

you should use pistol a lot more
Bloodybodyskater 3 years ago
I;m sorry but this wasnt very good to be honest. Throughout the video I counted 3 kills (2 medics + 1 spy) and around 4 or so deaths that were easily avoidable (not counting the time u randomly ran in to point A). Your sentry did literally nothing. It was badly placed and I don't think it got more than 1 or two kills. You should have talked about sentry placement a lot more, and it seems to be something you suck at. Also talk about offensive engie, as its very effective if pulled of.
hellsassasin1 3 years ago 2
Very well done.
c4cypher 3 years ago
That was a great tutorial, you are a good engie. A few minutes into the video I was thinking of the despenser thing, then you did it at the end of the video. I like how you used your wrench most of the time and it was affective.

How about you post a vid of yourself doing better? Put your money where your fat mouth is.
c4cypher 3 years ago
there is only 1 thing i disagree with, and that is the thing about scaring enemies away because of bullet holes, other than that, great
frandude2 3 years ago
Yeah, I agree too - most players on pub servers don't notice things like that.
I also disagree with what you said about swinging your wrench randomly when a spy cloaks - good spies tend to walk in a random direction directly after cloaking in order to fool you. However, in the situation that you killed that spy right before he was fully cloaked is perfectly applicable.
tehymc 3 years ago
this is a really good tutorial, not just because it shows pointers for Engie (never thought of that gun/tele spot, didn't know small metal respawned faster) it was a really good gameplay match
