Not because we need someone to blame, but to keep it from happening in the future. And as for the rest of the worlds problems, yes, they will effect us too. But the least we could do is become economically stable and at least 80% self reliant. That way if something outside our borders happens, say the oil runs out, then we won't be going through another depression.

What I mean is that, say if the entire rest of the world were to vanish, and the US was the only country left, then we could survive on our own. She fails to understand that the large income tax portion the top 25% pay is just because they have even larger a proportion than 67% in wealth/income. Also, income tax is not the whole picture. Payroll tax also plays a huge roll in tax burden. And the wealthy don't pay nearly as much into payroll tax because it is capped at a relatively low level. And why would most Americans, "Republicans, Democrats, and Independents alike" care about tax raises on the wealthy? Doesn't make sense...

Not because we need someone to blame, but to keep it from happening in the future. And as for the rest of the worlds problems, yes, they will effect us too. But the least we could do is become economically stable and at least 80% self reliant. That way if something outside our borders happens, say the oil runs out, then we won't be going through another depression.

She fails to understand that the large income tax portion the top 25% pay is just because they have even larger a proportion than 67% in wealth/income. Also, income tax is not the whole picture. Payroll tax also plays a huge roll in tax burden. And the wealthy don't pay nearly as much into payroll tax because it is capped at a relatively low level. And why would most Americans, "Republicans, Democrats, and Independents alike" care about tax raises on the wealthy? Doesn't make sense...

The most burdensome and bureaucratic part of the federal government is the tax code which is rife with inconsistencies so that only the wealthiest in the country can truly benefit from it. A simpler tax code where the wealthy pay their fair share is needed. I'd even be ok w/ reducing corporate taxes to 10% so long as a millionaire's bracket is created and capital gains are taxed as ordinary income. CG is what encourages laziness not welfare.
