Surely the family should use the animal welfare act to bring this council to task, this dog has suffered in their care, if a private kennels released a dog in this condition they would be prosecuted, so why oh why are they continually allowed to get away with this, please please someone expose them for what they are, not only have they breached the sections but they also have a total disregard for the laws they repeatedly hide behind????????

this video has just had me crying my eyes out! i can't believe how badly he was treated while in custody! poor bruce. my heart goes out to his family, i can't imagine if someone took one of my dogs away from me. they're like my babies! i'm so glad he's now being cared for properly, but he should be back with the family that loved him so much x
I am so so so so happy that he got saved but I am so so so so sad that he can't be reunited with his family. What they have done to that dog and that family is absolutely sickening. How can they get away with the way he was kept anyway?! He was in awful condition! Poor doggy :(

East Galway Animal Rescue (EGAR) has said today that the court will allow Bruce to go to their sanctuary in Eire (across the border-he is currenly held in kennels in Northern Ireland) with conditions. More news to follow!

at 1:46 he reminds me of my dog Sammy. She has the same bone. Its disgracefull! I live in the South and even though its not as bad as the North all these breeds still get a bad name. My parents are like many others of that type. I wanted a pitt cause there magnificent animals and they wont get one incase it would bite someone. Its about time those asshole who gave these creatures a bad name finally get punished for it. Hope u go home soon Bruce. Love from the South!!!
I check up on this often and every time I watch this video all over again. It makes me bawl every time I see it. Don't give up, we can bring him home.
This boy looks like his story is about to get better. It is about to go to a higher court. This means he is likely to be put into the 'book of exempted dogs' meaning he will finally be sent home!

That is bullshit.. wish I knew what happened. I didn't know the UK banned pitbulls. I think that dogs can become mean if they're left outside all the time or ignored by people. I don't like those dogs, but some are nice. And that is just a sad story..

If this type of dog was banned in the country the person was living in then why did the person get this type of dog? Why did this person break the law? Sounds to me like this person was breaking the law and got caught.
This is truly a god awful story and it makes me ashamed to say that I'm British.
I came to this story late, but I've signed the petition and stuck the story on the front page of my blog, (which is about keeping pet hedgehogs as pets normally :o) The site only gets about 4000 a month but every little helps.

Bruce's owner has a choice to get insurance and then they can pick him up from the horror he's enduring. There's something dodgy about the whole story. No chance they'd get my dog... I'd kill for his rights.

That poor, poor dog. You can tell he's as soft as a brush in those photos, and he loves his family alot. The condition he is in is disgusting and no dog should ever have to go through that.

I'm a vet tech and am more worried about chihuahuas then I am about pitys. I have been bitten twice 1) Pomeranian 2) Shar Pei. Don't believe everything you see on the news.

I am sorry, but your evaluation of Pit Bulls is terribly ignorant. Am I right in assuming you have never owned a Pit Bull or any related breed? Pit Bulls are no more "dangerous" than any other breed, and certainly not "part wolf." It is true that you can never be 100% sure a dog will not attack, but that is true of Malamutes, Pit Bulls, Basset Hounds and Pomeranians. It is also true of people.
ALL dogs are part wolf- all dogs are descended from them. Pitbulls by their names, are dogs bred to fight BULLS in a pit. The reason for their very existence, the reason they were bred, is to fight. There is no such thing as nurture over nature- dogs bred to fight- FIGHT, given the right stimulus, no matter how well they have been trained. Same with a greyhound or whippet- he can be happy for years with a family rabbit but still go for it if it runs away from him, because that is his stimulus.
Now this is serious ignorance. First, there is some controversy whether dogs descended from wolves or both came from a common ancestor. Your misunderstanding of their name is a bigger problem. They were never bred to fight bulls in pits. That is ridiculous. Until the founder of the United Kennel Club, C. Z. It is only with training that they become skilled herders and stop attacking sheep. Likewise, a Greyhound or Whippet will always have the urge to chase a fleeing object, but can be trained to adapt that urge to something more constructive.
I work at a local animal shelter where the majority of animals we get in are Pits.
They are no more dog-aggressive than the average Beagle. Please take some time to educate yourself on dogs in general and specifically Pit Bulls. They are great dogs in the hands of loving owners.
I can't believe you would be so naive- the laws of genetics state that a dog bred to fight will fight. Whether it is with another dog, or a person, does not matter in the slightest to me. They are STILL a danger to someone, and the law BANNING them is there for a reason- because they attack people! It doesn't matter how well the dog is trained, it can still 'flip'. Same with horses. Also, I'm not really prejudiced against them over other dogs- I would not leave a baby even with a chihuaha. I love animals and devote my life to helping them and caring for them, but will never ever put my trust in one, because ultimately they are there to look after themselves and their instincts are much stronger than ours. I had already offered my support before seeing this video and now I am pleased to have done so seeing the love and care this family have given to their pet. My family kept corgis which are reputed to be ill-tempered around children but we found this not the case if you treat the animal with care and love. I see only care and love in this video but both appear to be denied Bruce in his present situation.
Please put aside any fears and believe that this dog and owners can be trusted.

This dog is beautiful!!! He is definately a Staffordshire Bull Terrier...I have a staffy and Bruce is very, very similar to him, expect Max (my staffy) is brindle. He's obviously a lovely, lovely dog and does not deserve to be put down just because he looks like a Pit Bull terrier.
I have another dog who has bitten before and not been put down, so there's no way Bruce deserves to be!

It is very sad that some believe the breed is the monster, but take a second look at this situation and see who the real monster(s) are. All dogs are the same they become what people let them become (good or bad citizens), so punish the deed and not the breed. I just sent messages to Northern Ireland authorities, and I emailed numerous authories and vets to set Bruce free! I pray to God Bruce will be okay. I love all animals very much! I agree that these laws are BS!

Dear little Bruce we are doing all we can to free you from this living hell - may you be granted the long and wonderful life that you so deserve ! The condition you are now in because of where you are forced to live should be enough tobring cruelty charges against the 'kennel' and county ! The way you have declined while there is nothing short of disgusting and from what I can see, caused only by neglect !
OMG, I can't believe whoever has Bruce in custody can let him get in such horrible condition! They should have to get him good medical care. They are slowly killing this poor dog! His mental and emotional health have to be suffering, too, due to the confinement for 20 months, poor treatment, and loss of his family.
BSL are senseless and cruel and this shows just one example of that. Bruce deserves to go home to his loving family, who he loves also, and be taken good care of.
This made me weep. I can't imagine seeing either of my dogs in this state, my heart goes out to Bruces family and to Bruce. If my dogs were in the condition I would be prosecuted for cruelty. Who is looking after this dog welfare while it is incarcerated. Where is the RSPCA?? or a Animal Rights organisation who are suppose to protect animals. If Bruce has been treated like in the care of this organization is it being investigate and how many other animals have been and still are suffering in their care. Maybe the councils time would be better spent investigating the treatment Bruce rather than persecuting him.

Like many comments, please call in animal welfare agencies and get them to investigate the condition of the dog and how he is being kept. Wish you all the luck in getting your dog back - you might have to agree to keep him muzzled in public and have him i.d. chipped and various other measures that are in place when you keep a dog that is considered 'dangerous' he does not actually have to be a pitbull or anything - they term it pitbull type and it is based on various measurements of the dog -

Honestly, BSL is the lazy way of fixing things(and what do you know, it hasn't fixed a god damn thing, has it?). I just heard from ARAN and it looks like the Monday execution may be postponed. They and face book members and other animal advocates all over the world are working for Bruce. Hold on, Shannon, we have pulled out all the stops.
BSL Laws are ridiculous. Target the real problem: idiot owners who will just get another guardian breed if one breed banned. Enact and ENFORCE strong dangerous dog/cruelty laws. This will put the onus on those who are the problem. If this breed ban stuff keeps up, then soon none of us will be able to own dogs. There will be no more dogs. And what a sad world this will be. It is a crime to see the shape poor Bruce is in now. Those who are "caring" for him should be charged with cruelty.

What Bruce has suffered amounts to animal cruelty, please keep forwarding the updates and l hope we can save this poor dog, his family have suffered enough trying to save him and what kind of judge could order an innocent dog to be put to sleep? This is so wrong, Bruce was already offered a safe rescue home. This decision is like something from the dark ages!

at 1:46 he reminds me of my dog Sammy. She has the same bone. Its disgracefull! I live in the South and even though its not as bad as the North all these breeds still get a bad name. My parents are like many others of that type. I wanted a pitt cause there magnificent animals and they wont get one incase it would bite someone. That is bullshit.. wish I knew what happened. I didn't know the UK banned pitbulls. I think that dogs can become mean if they're left outside all the time or ignored by people. I don't like those dogs, but some are nice. And that is just a sad story..

This is truly a god awful story and it makes me ashamed to say that I'm British.
I came to this story late, but I've signed the petition and stuck the story on the front page of my blog, (which is about keeping pet hedgehogs as pets normally :o) The site only gets about 4000 a month but every little helps.

but the government passed the dangerous dogs act for a reason, you cant "vouch" for a dog, saying that it will never attack, because, he is still an animal and still part wolf, any dog has the potential to attack, but pitbulls are dangerous dogs,

I am sorry, but your evaluation of Pit Bulls is terribly ignorant. Am I right in assuming you have never owned a Pit Bull or any related breed? Pit Bulls are no more "dangerous" than any other breed, and certainly not "part wolf." It is true that you can never be 100% sure a dog will not attack, but that is true of Malamutes, Pit Bulls, Basset Hounds and Pomeranians. It is also true of people.

ALL dogs are part wolf- all dogs are descended from them. Pitbulls by their names, are dogs bred to fight BULLS in a pit. The reason for their very existence, the reason they were bred, is to fight. There is no such thing as nurture over nature- dogs bred to fight- FIGHT, given the right stimulus, no matter how well they have been trained. Same with a greyhound or whippet- he can be happy for years with a family rabbit but still go for it if it runs away from him, because that is his stimulus.

They were never bred to fight bulls in pits. That is ridiculous. Until the founder of the United Kennel Club, C. Z. Yes, they are terriers - they have a huge prey drive. But you see, this is exactly what training and socialization is for. Behaviours are epigenetic. That is, a dog has the predisposition for certain behaviours, and training molds these predispositions in certain directions. They say Herding is prey drive molded by training.

An untrained Border Collie will have the urge to go after sheep, but without training not know what do to and they often maim or even kill the sheep. It is only with training that they become skilled herders and stop attacking sheep. Likewise, a Greyhound or Whippet will always have the urge to chase a fleeing object, but can be trained to adapt that urge to something more constructive.
I work at a local animal shelter where the majority of animals we get in are Pits.

I can't believe you would be so naive- the laws of genetics state that a dog bred to fight will fight. Whether it is with another dog, or a person, does not matter in the slightest to me. They are STILL a danger to someone, and the law BANNING them is there for a reason- because they attack people! It doesn't matter how well the dog is trained, it can still 'flip'. Same with horses. Also, I'm not really prejudiced against them over other dogs- I would not leave a baby even with a chihuaha. I love animals and devote my life to helping them and caring for them, but will never ever put my trust in one, because ultimately they are there to look after themselves and their instincts are much stronger than ours. We can 'talk ourselves' out of fighting with someone, but a dogs' instincts are much stronger.

I had already offered my support before seeing this video and now I am pleased to have done so seeing the love and care this family have given to their pet. My family kept corgis which are reputed to be ill-tempered around children but we found this not the case if you treat the animal with care and love. I see only care and love in this video but both appear to be denied Bruce in his present situation.
Please put aside any fears and believe that this dog and owners can be trusted.

This dog is beautiful!!! He is definately a Staffordshire Bull Terrier...I have a staffy and Bruce is very, very similar to him, expect Max (my staffy) is brindle. He's obviously a lovely, lovely dog and does not deserve to be put down just because he looks like a Pit Bull terrier.
I have another dog who has bitten before and not been put down, so there's no way Bruce deserves to be!

It is very sad that some believe the breed is the monster, but take a second look at this situation and see who the real monster(s) are. All dogs are the same they become what people let them become (good or bad citizens), so punish the deed and not the breed. Unfortunately for some breeds its a bad stereotype that is very difficult to overcome.

OMG, I can't believe whoever has Bruce in custody can let him get in such horrible condition! They should have to get him good medical care. They are slowly killing this poor dog! His mental and emotional health have to be suffering, too, due to the confinement for 20 months, poor treatment, and loss of his family.
BSL are senseless and cruel and this shows just one example of that. Bruce deserves to go home to his loving family, who he loves also, and be taken good care of.

If my dogs were in the condition I would be prosecuted for cruelty. Who is looking after this dog welfare while it is incarcerated. Where is the RSPCA?? or a Animal Rights organisation who are suppose to protect animals. If Bruce has been treated like in the care of this organization is it being investigate and how many other animals have been and still are suffering in their care. Maybe the councils time would be better spent investigating the treatment Bruce rather than persecuting him.

Like many comments, please call in animal welfare agencies and get them to investigate the condition of the dog and how he is being kept. Wish you all the luck in getting your dog back - you might have to agree to keep him muzzled in public and have him i.d. chipped and various other measures that are in place when you keep a dog that is considered 'dangerous' he does not actually have to be a pitbull or anything - they term it pitbull type and it is based on various measurements of the dog -

If the dog is so important, why has the owner failed to respond to requests from the authorities and from her solicitor?

do they have the rspca in ireland? why doesn't the family have them investigate the neglect poured onto bruce by the compound owners? it's pretty damn obvious. My heart goes out to them, I have a purebred am staff, who is built like bruce was b4 he went into the hell hole, if someone tries to take my eric because they "assume" he is a pit bull they will have to kill me first.and to be fair, most pitbulls brought up in a loving home are fantastic family dogs; its just the morons who ruin them.

Honestly, BSL is the lazy way of fixing things(and what do you know, it hasn't fixed a god damn thing, has it?). Prayers for Bruce, hopefully he'll get through this and be back with his loving family. It's absolutely sad such a loved member of the family has to go through this, and that his family has to go through all this also. Why did the creators of BSL ever have to be born?? They are useless and are such ***holes!

I just heard from ARAN and it looks like the Monday execution may be postponed. They and face book members and other animal advocates all over the world are working for Bruce. Hold on, Shannon, we have pulled out all the stops.

BSL Laws are ridiculous. Target the real problem: idiot owners who will just get another guardian breed if one breed banned. Enact and ENFORCE strong dangerous dog/cruelty laws. This will put the onus on those who are the problem. If this breed ban stuff keeps up, then soon none of us will be able to own dogs. There will be no more dogs. And what a sad world this will be. It is a crime to see the shape poor Bruce is in now. Those who are "caring" for him should be charged with cruelty.

Oh please! Please let this dog go home to the people who love him. I respectfully ask the judiciary to put what conditions you want with that.
I find this so very sad. The dog is gone down hill because he thinks his family abandoned him.

To see this beautiful boy end up in the condition he is in - with quite obviously his heart broken as well as his spirit, and suffering unbelievable physical neglect as well has firstly made me cry my heart out - and now Im so angry... This is so wrong... Bruce ~ Im asking for a miracle for you baby.... This world is SO wrong... I wish there was something we could do at this late stage to change this...

What Bruce has suffered amounts to animal cruelty, please keep forwarding the updates and l hope we can save this poor dog, his family have suffered enough trying to save him and what kind of judge could order an innocent dog to be put to sleep? This is so wrong, Bruce was already offered a safe rescue home. This decision is like something from the dark ages!

So very very sorry to hear that Bruce hasnt won his fight for freedom and is to be put down, I hope the news isnt true, the authority who siezed him should be prosecuted for the condition poor Bruce got in while in their so called care. You didnt need to suffer like this.

hi i have never been so upset about a short video than i was with with one i think it is an utter disgrace that this poor animal and its family are being treated like this you can clearly see that bruce is a much loved part of the family and he needs to be home the people who have done this should be put in the same conditions as bruce has there surly could have been another way it makes me sick i hope the family get him home soon my thoughts are with you x
