  • Probably her best pop ballad. Also love "For Your Eyes Only."

  • This is a GREAT song. I'd forgotten how good it sounded.

  • Great song, bad video.

  • Writer is/was Lea Maalfrid. Has her own website based in UK. Drop her a line and she may be able to assist.

  • Wasn't Sheena a regular on Solid Gold?

  • Sheena hit #15 in Billboard, 2-20-82. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx. Have a great week!

  • this is an amazing song that I heard before I found her recording - when I was in an original band - and I wanted desperately to sing it. She is a great singer - and does it justice. HOWEVER - I am trying to find the charts for it and it never shows up. Does anyone know who the writers are??? PLEASE post!! Thank you.

  • @golfcats1 i have this on a various artists album from 1982 called"20 with a bullet".i will look up the writers for you and post tomorrow,i also have a book for British Hit Singles and the exact date of release will be on there, but im guess very late December1981/early January1982.i will post info sometime tomorrow.

  • This is my #1 favorite song and video by Sheena and they don't play it any more for some DUMB reason!! I have seen her in concert once in the '80's!!

  • Chills when she hits that high note, brr.

  • My favorite song by the beautiful and talented Sheena Easton!!!!! She is truly underrated!!!!!!!

  • I had forgotton just how good she was. what a great memory.

  • so true that "You cannot make him think"! LOL. Men!

  • She is an amazing talent. She is even better than that closeted gay Whitney Houston. She won't come out because she thinks she can hide it from God!

  • Is it the word "instead" that she repeats in the prettiest high tones? I can't quite catch the word. Nevertheless it's a lovely song sung by a very pretty lady.

  • Sixtiesarewe - who are you? this woman has never abandoned the husband that made her as no man exists! just who are you talking about and what makes you such an expert? Sheena took on an american accent through necessity and has not forgotten her roots I can promise you that so wise up before you make such ignorant comments!

  • wow way to go sheena abandon the husband that made you.change your accent

and forget your roots you can sing girl but you cant sing for home.

  • Billboard's #64 song of '82. Sheena hit #6 AC, #15 pop, in the US. How'd she do in the UK? God bless!

  • I'm so proud to call this amazing lady my aunt xx

  • As a fellow person born at Bellshill Maternity I wish I was as talented as Ms Sheena Easton...what a wonderful voice she has. I saw her playing in Glasgow circa 1981 - fab voice. Shame fellow Glaswegians struggled with that strange accent she had - her singing was top notch IMO!

  • @trendygirl2001 I was in the crowd in June 1990, when Sheena appeared on stage at Glasgow Green. She had done numerous TV interviews beforehand and her fellow Scots were horrified to hear her American twang. The moment she started singing, the beer bottles started flying on stage and the booing began. Deacon Blue came on after Sheena and screamed at the crowd. 'Are you proud to be Scottish'? The crowd went mental and DB clearly had no symathy for Miss Easton.

  • @trendygirl2001 Even though I am not Scottish, I am proud to say Sheena Easton is my favorite vocalist of all time. She has the most beautiful voice in my opinion. I have been a fan since 1981. I cannot find another vocalist like her. I never will. I just want to thank you for appreciating Sheena's singing and voice. Actually, Sheena did not lose her accent overnight like some Scottish people think. It took me at least five years to understand Sheena because of her accent.

  • Soaring voice, insightful lyrics. Classic Masterpiece, Sheena! Love your Scottish accent, also. My husband of Scot ancestry. Peace to ALL.

  • RC listen long and hard to this song!!

I miss you very much :(

  • You can LEAAAAAAAAAAAAD a horse to water, but you cannot make him drink

    *Turns Head away from camera

    *Quick head turn to camera

You can give a man your whole heart and soooooul, but you CANNOT make him think

    *Stands

You could have BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN with meeee instead of ALLOONEEE and LOONNNEEELLY

  • This was released in late 1981.

  • oh man does this song take me back to the early 80's and playing "barbies" with my cousins on the weekends!!!

for being a slow song, this really has a nice groove to it!!!

    SING IT GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i love sheena easton, she totally represents the "80's".

thanks for posting this video. i forgot all about this song.

  • HIt #6 AC, #15 pop in the US (Billboard). How'd it do in the UK? God bless!

  • This song takes me back to when I was in the USAF stationed at Holloman AFB N.M 49th EMS. Boy was I glad to leave that place!

    Good song though.

  • seventh son of a seventh son! up the irons!

  • so true you can lead a horse to water but you cant force him to drink

  • The woman has a great voice. Love the flash back hair, too.

  • I was in 8th grade when this was popular

  • @Novelist6369 Lol, me toooooooooo!!!! wow, the 80's....I miss em...

  • Sheena is a Siren! This is my favorite song from her.

Q: What Key does Sheena Easton sing "You Could Have Been With Me" in???

A: She sings it in the Key of F. From what I could tell playing along with this on guitar they're just using 1-4-and-5 chords

in the Key of F. I didn't hear any others. Great Song! :)

  • mine too

  • shelivade91 even your negative self is good for something...reminder of the #1 reason not to reproduce.

  • Summer of 1982, Camp Hillel on the road to Woodbourne in Bache's 1967 cadillac coupe deville

  • This song takes me back to my junior year in high school, 1980-81 - it was a difficult time in my life, but hearing this tune always perked me up-

  • Talented woman

  • Love this song. Sheena has such a beautiful voice-

  • Memories!

  • in 1983,this brought back memories when I has a good friend play this song.

  • memories memories

  • Love the voice. Love the song. The singer is great also. Thanks for posting.

  • Wow. I love this whole album though this is my fave song on it. 'When He Shines' and 'I'm Not Worth The Hurt' are also very emotional. It's the greatest album Sheena ever put out.

  • This is for the loser that dumped you in the past but today weighs in at 400 pounds.

  • yikes!!!!!

  • No, this is for the loser that dumped you in the past but is now with a 400 lb chick.

    I hope he's flippin' happy.

  • takes me back to the high school dance! It's been a while : )

  • nice song

  • Why did this only go to #15? This should've been a top 5 hit easily

  • this is a song u hum when u hear about an ex that was treated just as bad as they treated you!!

  • This was my FAVE SE song back in the day

  • I just heard of Sheena today. This is not the type of music that I ever listen to, but she does have an amazing and beautiful voice! She sings with great emotion and a soft tone.

  • Even though I am not a Sheena fan, I really like this song. I also had it on the old "45" record. Being a guy, I didn't sing the song in the mirror; instead I was the rugged bass player in the (imaginary) background she was singing about. I have spoken.

  • Andy, that's precisely how I imagined you.

A rugged bass player worthy of Sheena Easton.

  • :-)

  • The first time I heard this song was in 2003 on Radio Vh1 on the online radio station called "Plush." I have liked this song since! It is bittersweet but there is hope in it that things will get better. Fabulously sung by Sheena. This is not an easy song to sing.

  • so pretty good voice.. beats paula abdul.. she should be on idol

  • ya she had some great songs where is she shes great

  • I am not sure I understand some of these comments...yikes, but this is a sweet song that I remember...hearing after a weird breakup, retro, but still made an impact on me. Sheena is a great singer.

  • OMG.... keep your disgusting habbits to yourself

  • i still have this 45:)

  • this song I will remeber allways the time the feeling the way I felt exactly like her.

  • This song was one of the first 45s I ever bought. Remeber those?

  • omg what a voice, glad i was old enough to know her career in the 80s....love it,BTW HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHEEEEENA!!!!

  • What a Great Song, so true, but so SAD!!!

  • Hey, who thinks she should do a remake this song (not changing anything, though)just re-release it? That would be cool :D

  • Sheena Easton was one of my favorites in the 80's. This is one of my fave songs of her's. I like all her songs. Her song with Prince "U Got the Look" totally rocks :D

    80's rule!

  • I loved this song as teenager

  • I really htink that she should of been reserected by timbaland for his latest song

    Sheena Easton ft.

    Timbaland & Justin Timberlake

    "4 minutes"

    woulda been ace

  • One of my favorite Sheena songs ever - hearing her live on the "Private Heaven" tour was fantastic - simply Sheena on a chair under a beautiful blue spotlight.

  • i don't think cristina would do this song the justice it deserves. let me think...

  • Sheena Easton can act too. I remember her doing a great job in an episode of "The Outer Limits".

  • does anybody know what is the title off the song with the lyrics.......im not worth the hurt so sad and so unfair to make you want what isnt there......i sung that song a long time ago but dont know the title anymore....iff you know wich song i mean please reply, thank you

  • You might be thinking of her song, "I'm Not Worth The Hurt." It is off her "You Could Have Been with Me" album from 1982.

  • She wears tons of makeup to make her loook good.

  • She looks good w/o makeup! In the 80's it was all about glam and most artists did wear alot of make up (including guys) Sheena didn't need makeup to look good :) But you are entitled to your opinion, as am I.

  • this song made me cry as a teenager, trying to find love. I love Sheena for singing about what was in my mind and others.

  • she did a fantastic job on this, still sounds great, sorry, none of those other ladies could come close, and Sheena is better looking, verrrrrrry sexxxxxxyyyyy

  • Dear Mikebtko, I'm sure that Christina Aguilera would do a very good job with this song. Other singers come to my mind such as Teena Marie, Tracie Spencer, Gloria Estefan, Lagaylia Frazier, Desiree Coleman, Jaki Graham, Donna Allen, Shania Twain, and Denise Stewart. But Sheena Easton left a lasting first impression!

  • Christina Aquilera should cover this song! I bet it would be a big hit all over again.

  • this is really pretty!!

    the vocal range is awesome!!

  • lOVE HER! LOVE HER! she is awesome! a very talented actress also! miss seeing her! she was awesome on Miami Vice as "Sonny"s wife! Tragic ending tho! thanks for posting this! wonderful memories!

  • Though this song didn't make the Billboard Top 10 chart, it was truly one of her prettiest songs. Very sweet and magical, as one responder below put it. SHEENA, WE NEED YOU AGAIN IN 2008!!!

  • When this came out, this sounded magical. It still does after all the elapsed time.

  • gospel!

  • Absolutely beautiful. Love her.

  • Wow! This is a great song that I remember from the early 80's. I never knew there was a video to it until now. Sheena had some SERIOUS hair in this one; still beautiful, though.

  • And this song goes out to Pete..... the Man I Love most in the world, He keeps breaking up with me, every time we get back together and start to get close again!

  • Wow! Is she the bomb or what?!!!

  • The birth of the power-ballad? I'm glad it escaped Celine!

  • Great song. Sheena was my favorite singer in early 80´s

  • omg what a beautiful song wow!

  • Kovayaj, she's working on another project with Prince.

  • she da bomb...

  • This is one of my favorite all time songs. An important song which deals with life and relationships, and the harsh reality that not all love affairs can have a happy ending. Sheena Easton's voice and the haunting music were perfect for this song!

  • i love her music too, wonder where she is now....

  • I love Sheena and I love this song. That high note puts Mariah to shame. Thanks for posting!

  • she always reminded me of one of the ladies off the televangelist shows. but she sang with more passion than any of them! She had a string of great songs. I liked her first before Cyndi Lauper came around. I loved how they both sang so high.

  • seems everyone is saying all i could say. one of my all time favorite female artistes. she was eventually toppled by Madonna.

  • Gorgeous face- striking eyes-and that voice!

She really came out with so many great songs.

Weird how she kind of just faded into obscurity-especially considering her sex symbol status. She sings this song with true bittersweet feeling....Makes it one of the best of the heart wrenching"Look what we could have had" songs.

  • Uff-da! Being a mezzo soprano, it's a challenge to hit those high notes! Great song from a terrific artist!

  • One Of The Prettiest Ladies In Music! O Yeah, She Can Sing Unlike Most

  • Before Madonna, Sheena was making the blood race to the private spots! I think she went out on top, choosing to leave the games of the music biz to focus on raising a family. Class !

  • What a hot little package. But more importantly great pipes. Love this song.

  • Always thought this was her best song. Great memories from back when I first listened to this. Thanks for finding it for us.

  • A beautiful, talented, undervauled artist and singer.

I had a crush on her big time when I was a kid.

  • Sheena has one of the most powerful and distinguishable voices in the music business. She needs to put out something and give today's so-called young divas a run for their money!

  • great song from ...early 80´s. I love Sheena.

  • beautiful song, lost treasure is a great way to express it - thank you Slim, I don't even know how to describe the feelings this song invokes

  • This Shows If Contessa Brewer Hasn't Got Married To Somone Else She Could Have Been With Me Shows She

Dont Think About Anyone But Herself.

  • I just saw her in concert about a week ago in Atlantic City and she didn't sing this song. I was very disappointed. :o( But other than this one, she did most of her other hits. She still sounded pretty good and looked great....and she's now about 48 years old. Still a hottie.

  • Thanks so much for putting this one up. A lost treasure.

  • one of the best from her

  • Thanks for posting the video. I agree, her pre-Prince stuff was her best!

  • Excellent memories, thanks for sharing. Rare gem but aged like a fine wine.

  • I also think this was one of her best! Come back SHEENA!!!

  • I liked this genre of music for Sheena before she started singing with Prince...No disrespect intended

  • Title song off her 2nd American release peaking at #15 in early 1982, one of Sheena's best!!

  • Is this from that "Act One" TV special? Either way, thanks, hadn't heard this one in awhile!

  • Nice to hear this one again

  • I love this song, Thank you!
