When I worked at gamestop we had stuff like this happen all the time, if the item was a used game depending how long you had it, there can be more leeway. Since it sounded like it was new, once its opened its yours, its no longer new, as it can no longer be sold to someone else as new. The only thing that will be done is a swap for the same product if its defective.
I know it's not fair but there's always like people say RESEARCH TO BE DONE! to figure out ways that you can shop at gamestop with not so much with a fus. Don't blame the employees for things that really can't be done for your benefit blame yourself for not doing research on figuring out how to not get into that situation.

@UpcomingJedi why a store like gamestop has that policy. What kind of reputable store has a policy of no returns. Gamestop was always suspect, but now, you cant even turn in new games that you purchased like a day earlier. Its ridiculous how a couple of years before they had a 30 days return policy, but now it expires once the plastic comes off. So the person buys the game for $60, finds out they dont like it, comes back later in the day, and can only sell for $20. Yea, defend em..

They are not in the business of just holding someone's money until the "customer" returns the game tomorrow. If so, do they really buy it? Can they sell it as 'new' once its opened? No. Did they make money 'renting' it? No, the "customer" will want ALL their money back don't they, like this guy for example. That person should at least read the box before buying it.
