ahh been looking at getting one of the tascam's you have, im assuming from this video theres no problem running it on a pretty standard laptop, everyone ive seen using them have epic home computers and stuff. My laptop's not shit but its not particularly mindblowing ether, so if i bought one it would be fine running into ether cubase(obviously) or ableton suite 8 on my laptop, which i have no current recording issues with? cheers.
It sucks that you have to use the Asio drivers.......this makes the tascam us 1641 a slave to the steinberg licence...
Unlike all my other interfaces (like the RME hammerfall and alesis Adat PCR) The Tascam drivers will not work as a multi in on Cool Edit and Audition because only the first 2 inputs and 2 outputs (headphone out) get recognised....
I'm thinking about getting a Tascam US-1641 to record my band. I noticed on your video you were using that to interface with Inspiron e-1405 PC. I was wondering if you have any latency issues recording to your PC and how well the Cubase LE4 interfaces with it?
hey i was going to upgrade from my analog mixer to a firewire or usb interface. Most likely a usb for price reasons. My main question would be - with the tascam 1641 when you record drums in cubase - does each drum (mic) come up as a separate track so you can eq all the drums separately?
Does the SM57 work good as a kick mic? I'm planning on getting a few condensers, and since I have 3 dynamics, I was going to use one for my kick. Would it work okay if I get the EQ right?
no you dont have to be rich, you just have to be dedicated to what your doing. if your playing shows all the time and getting paid, then its not a problem buying more expensive things. and you always get what you pay for.
im looking to buy those speakers for using guitar rig (software based amp) on my pc (just for practicing in my bedroom) just wondering if they're a good pick for this..
hi mate (or anybody willing to help me out), i want to start recording and my budget can´t reall cover all the aspects of recording so i'm looking for the best, most versatile, but on budget stuff, so far what i'm considering seriously is:
Phantom power is power that is supplied to some mics (condenser mics) and also some other studio equipment such as DI boxes in order to get it to work. It can be supplied by either the mixer or an external phantom power source. It is usually +48v.
Nice dude, but next time you should look into using stereo overheads and gateing your snare, itl take alot of the life out of it at first, but then put a little reverb in it, and you'll be good to go.
o how i wish to have a studio. i have everything but a computer in my basement. i have the mics, drums mixer. dang all i have is this family desktop for a computer :( sorry to rant. nice video
good stuff. i don't wanna be a wise ass but you might get a better(more neutral) sound if you put up your monitors so that the tweeters are on ear height and not in the corner or too close to your wall.
If im honest a AKG D112 is the best option for bass drums in the studio or in live sound venue's. Best at picking up high SPL frequencies. SM57's yes on the snare! A Must Have! for toms personally i would go for sm57's too, but other people prefer the samson tom kit mics and errr, over heads. In my opinion cymbals sound best on a CL8 or a B5 small diaphragm condensers. :)
instead of playing that beat though, you should have hit each drum a few times nice and solid to hear the sound. nice set up, awaiting m tascam in the mail today!
this was when i was experimenting on the versatility of the 57. it actually was pretty clear for recording, but lacked the boom. i now use an audio technica made for bass drum, and th e57 on the batter side of the kick.
awesome cuz i need to find out how everything sounds on ur kit because im thinkin of gettin the same. so please do a good cover!! what songs are you thinkin of?
I've been looking into these tascams because i need a few more inputs. I was wondering if the one your using ever pops or clicks during recording. My presonus Inspire preamp pops like hell on any computer with less than 2 gigs of ram. I would appreciate any input on this.
If the popping is coming from the output of the computers soundcard, or whatever output you are using to monitor from the computer, and not the analogue output of the preamp itself, then it could be that the latency you are using for a/d conversion is set to too short a time for the computer your using, which would explain why on computers with more ram it stops.
recommendation - if you want a good mic for bass drums then you should try the AKG D112 very good low end response and the sound is spot on. they're quite cheap aswell i think you can pick them up for around £90 in the u.k. also if it hasnt been mentioned allready try get another condenser for another overhead then angle one slightly left and one slightly right to get a broader sound. you could also try mic both sides of the kick drum front and back. and with the snare do top bottom and the side
Why don't u try to create some music? search for Reason , it has all the musical instruments and drums, mixers, sound effects... This could help you. Btw, nice stuff there. Which software is good for recording? And how much that microphone costs?
get another condenser and google glyn johns drum mic technique.
youll get a much better sound.
i watched this video because i wanted to hear what the hydraulic heads sounded like but there wasnt too much tom work so i guess ill just have to ask you how they sound? haha
The best thing do do is save up and go straight for the top end cymbals, i started on shit cymbals then went to intermeidiate cymbals, with all that money i could of just bought some proper nice k-customs ( which im saving yet again for)
its tempting to get some mid range ones but go straight for the top end cymbals, then you probably aint going to be buying all again
Yeah, I think all the m-audio pro3's have that problem after I did a little research. I couldnt mix like that. I got the DX4's I believe their called. I should have them by the weekend. Thanks for the input.
I had some m-audio monitors that were louder in one one speaker than the other. Do you have this problem with those? I want to buy the audiophile av 20's but not if they have the same problem.
you room is very "reverby" on camera, but the sound on mic sounds very nice, gives it a nice wide space sound, i would still suggest some acoustic treatment around the back of the room (opposite the drums, which usually sound better away from the corners (but i see the lack of space)) to attenuate those standing waves... but that's just my opinion, a bit. cheers

sleeplessinhfx 3 years ago 5
i would put the sm57 on the snare top and also on the bottom( phase reverse ON)...you get a much better sound
for the bassdrum i would use a shure beta52
and to get a much tighter sound i would recommend using the shure beta91 boundry condenser mic...
and i would use 2 overhead mics so you get a better stereo
