@scrtg This is Eric. HIV targets specific receptors on the white cells (CD4 and CD5 IIRC) to get inside them and take them over to replicate. It's seeking them out before the body has started an immune reaction at all.

I would encorage anybody and everybody to get tested, often. I felt fine, fit and healthy all my life and hadn't seen a doctor since school or even taken a pill for a headache, but I had a tast recently and it came back positive with a CD4 count of just 80. Meaning it most probably was not a recent infection. Although I felt fine and healthy I wasn't. Please people get tested, just in case.

I had unprotected oral sex. After 2 weeks I had mild flu like symptoms. I got tested both after 3-6 months, and the tests came back negative. I still have mild strep throat like symptoms, I've had throat cultures, and it all came back normal. I've also been tested for other STD's, and nothing was found. Could the HIV tests been wrong? :(

There's no record/evidence of contracting HIV from drinking from the same cup/bottle from an HIV positive person. But to be on the safe said...avoid sharing eating utensils with an HIV positive person.

Yea, welll a girl told me that she gave me HIV i waited like 2 weeks to get a test because my mind had gotten the best of me. In the end it turned out I was HIV negative and it had been way past the window of 6 months which is the margin of error on a rapid, and since I got what is called a long test which is two sample taken at the same time and inspected for two weeks. I did not have anything. Worst thing about my little scare is that my own doctor said a condom is not 100%

I had unprotected oral sex. After 2 weeks I had mild flu like symptoms. I got tested both after 3-6 months, and the tests came back negative. I still have mild strep throat like symptoms, I've had throat cultures, and it all came back normal. I've also been tested for other STD's, and nothing was found. Could the HIV tests been wrong? :(

How long the child will live depends on whether they are promptly diagnosed and appropriately monitored and treated thereafter. Yea, welll a girl told me that she gave me HIV i waited like 2 weeks to get a test because my mind had gotten the best of me. In the end it turned out I was HIV negative and it had been way past the window of 6 months which is the margin of error on a rapid, and since I got what is called a long test which is two sample taken at the same time and inspected for two weeks. I did not have anything. Worst thing about my little scare is that my own doctor said a condom is not 100%

@AIDSvideos Hi Eric! I want to make a question to u: if you do a test after 9 months of the last time that u scared and be negative, is there a possibility of having sex? I mean i know that after 6 months u can see by sure having the HIV or not, doesn't it?

@ninitomelgouin: This is Eric; I'm not a doctor. Generally speaking, if you get an HIV- test result at least 6 months after your last possible exposure to HIV, you are considered HIV-. The initial ELISA screening test has a low rate of false negatives. See our vid "The Top Ten Questions About HIV Tests" for details. Talk to your doctor if you have questions about your own test result.

@stussyboys: At 3:35, after we state important disclaimers (like reminding folks that watching videos is no substitute for seeing a doctor) and tell people basic information about HIV/AIDS so they're ready for the specifics about AIDS symptoms.
