  • Thumbs up if the AVGN brought you here.

  • That's pretty cool! I like it :)

  • @thelleht Atleast it EVEN WORKED

  • Alright, gonna play some Jag.

  • AVGN has two of these that dont work.can i have one? just kidding>

  • 5 people got the red screen of death.

  • OMG! A Jaguar CD operating!

  • thats why we stick whit playstation xbox and nintendo now a days to not have this BS made by fucking assholes that just need money :/ leave it to the profs mate

  • @exposed97 I tell you why. The worst games ever produced, which you couldn't buy at any local store, at least I couldn't. I had to order them from some company and wait for them in the mail. Terrible blurry graphics combined with an oversized impractical controller that resembled an old brick cell phone make this system a steaming pile of jaguar shit.

  • this thing is more rare than not ever having a red ring of death ever! the god damn jagurar wouldnt ever work with this thing

  • So much better than the cartridge boot up...

  • AVGN would be pissed to see that there is a working jaguar cd and he doesn't own it! =D

  • I loved the music in blue lightning. I somehow like that game.

  • LSDtastic!

  • Looks nice...

  • Ahhhhhhh.... So this is where Apple got all it's funky screensavers!!

  • LMFAO.

  • This is something I never thought I'd see in my life:

    A Jaguar CD that's WORKING.

  • LOL I remember what PITA it was to get the damn thing to work. That and the carts.

  • lol same thing i was thinking! :))

  • Atari wanted to hypnotize us to play more JAAAAGGGGG!

  • I wonder how much could have been milked out of the Jaguar. It WAS pretty powerful. Even if it wasn't 'true' 64-bit, it doesn't really matter as the bits aren't a good way (at all) to measure 'power'.

In a lot of ways it's like a PS3. The problem was that it was so complex that it was ridiculous to program for, combine that with the fact that it didn't offer much and nothing really happened with it.

BUT, Look at Rayman, Doom, Alien V. Pred, it wasnt the hardware itself that was shit. Marketing.

  • I think it was mostly the developers rather than marketing. Those commericals in my opinion were good. BUT MAN OH MAN did the games suck. You have mentioned about all the good ones except for Tempest 2000. but that's 4 games that are good out of it's intire library. I LOVE ATARI. I really really wanted ATARI to come back and have a US based council again... Sadly it didn't happen... But maybe they are right. Jaguar isn't dead... It's just sleeping... (Very active Homebrew)

  • A big problem with the Jaguar was that it was rushed; there were still flaws and bugs in the hardware when it was released, including bugs that could cause a system crash.

That, and the fact that there essentially were no devkits available for this machine are what made programming for the Jaguar more difficult than it needed to be.

Then you have inept marketing, deadlines, and relentless competition.

  • That's because they WERE big once... very big!

The 2600 had around 1000 titles!

  • No kidding. By then Atari was no longer a big name in video games. They hadn't done anything exciting and Nintendo was synonymous with video games. No body remembered Atari by then.

  • Atari released the 2600 in 1977. It was a HUGE success. Also, in 1977 there where no contracts made with game developers like there are now. this was mainly because the industry was young and fresh. So every serial box, and toy manufacturer were making games. Many of these games where simply to advertise a product. This created a temporary swell of customers, and Atari responded by flooding the market with consoles.

  • Then, in 1984, the over saturated video game market met an end to such high customer demand. this left ALOT of extra stock at Atari, and many more unsold games that suddenly nobody could sell. This was the beginning of the end for Atari. They had over-invested and lost out big-time. Meanwhile their was a mangement and owenership change to try and handle the red ink. Then along came a Japanese manufacturer who used to make playing cards but where starting to make game consoles.

  • That company was called, "nintendo". They offered to partner with Atari, help them design a better console, let them slap the Atari name on it, and give Nintendo a stake in the profits. had this partnership succeeded, we would have a very different Atari today. However the CEOs of both companies met with disagreements on the way they wanted things and pretty much parted company. Nintendo, meanwhile almost done with the console, released it as the Nintendo Entertainment System in late 1985.

  • Atari was eventually bought by Infogrames. Infogrames changed its name to Atari, and now Atari is no more than a name. However even the kids walking around have heard of Atari.. The name will never be forgotten.

  • I am familiar with everything you mentioned.

  • cool, I love video game history myself. Did you know the Playstation was originally going to be a cd based addon for the super nintendo?

  • @ericblr me too, i love catching up on video game history

  • I like this, but it would of been better to add some music to it like the Mega-CD did.

  • this thing was made by jeff "yak" minter if i'm not mistaken, this is why its so trippy

  • the GU words is screwed up in the 1st boot.

  • cool... better than the original Jaguar boot!

  • well, it was released around in the 80s or something.

  • Let me guess, you were born in the early or mid nineties?

    So was the Console ;-)

    Kids these days...

  • Oooooooooooooooh! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

  • Tell me about it.

  • *hypnotized* Those colors...they're, like, groovy man... XD

  • Boot screen comes - OOOOH!

    Next one: AAAAAAH!

    (like woah thats cooool)

  • O.O
