Pretty nice video....but you left out some very important lifters. Dan Woleber, first man to deadlift 900 in competition, 1982 or 1983. Check back issues of Powerlifting HAS.
Dave Waddinton, first man to officially squat 1000 in competition. Also in the early 1980's.
@goathead111 A raw squat is done without a suit or knee wraps. Occasionally you will see a lifter with what looks like knee wraps, but if it's in a true raw event then they'll be neoprene wraps that are IPF legal. Basically the only thing you are allowed with a raw squat is a belt.
@kiwilifter Oh, thanks. But why would one wear knee wraps when squatting? Is it good for squatting extremely heavy weights? I mean, I understand wearing a belt because it straightens your back but i've never heard of knee wraps specifically for squatting.
I always say Powerlifting seperates the man from the boys. That's why you can easly spot the lifters in a gym since most gyms are crowded with boys. Great stuff!
11:10 - 11:55 both clips are from Sotkamo, in first clip Ismo Lappi lifts in World Championships 2001 and in second clip Jarmo Virtanen lifts in Finnish Championships 1993 :)
This is a great video!!! But I do feel you miss one of the greatest squater of all times, and that is Dr. Judd who squated 603lb at 130lb. Please do not take this as a knock on your work because it is outstanding!!!!
This is possibly the best powerlifting compilation I have yet seen on YouTube. Thank you for taking the time to put it together. I shall view it many times before training, I assure you.
To all who toil in pursuit of superhuman strenth and power, I salute you. It isn't easy to continually apply pain and discomfort to to oneself, but we of iron know it is what we must do. And we all have our reasons.
@nvbaileys probably in a list with all the other multi-ply 1000lbs squats....surely you can see the difference between all those squats and a multi-ply 1000lb squat in the 275s? a great lift, great lifter and great coach, but an all-time great? probably not
@MrOnceinside ok well then why not name it ur selection of lifts, cuz u left out the biggest lift from each discipline so you dont have the worlds greatest on there
@dutchstrongman what so this list should just be full of multi-ply lifts?? you're totally missing the point. whenever someone posts a video like this there's always going to be people who disagree with the lifts/lifters included. bolton was in there, so was kennelly so just calm down!
@350dead no it shouldnt be full of multiply lifts but the 3 biggest lifts of all time warrant attention espicially considering bolton is the only one to deadlift 1000 pounds ever!!!
What is the difference between a "raw deadlift" and a "deadlift". Does the gear (lifting suit) make any difference at all? If it doesn't why make it a distinction.
@NOFseXy I am not sure but I agree that he is probably bigger than Ronnie or Jay. Scott Mendelson is probably bigger than pro bodybuilders even if he dieted for the stage.....monsters of men!
No probem. I just know for a fact it isn't Kovacs. I've met and eaten with Greg a few times back when I was an editor at MuscleMag International. When he became the first MuscleTech-endorsed athlete.
This first guy who squats 290 kg, how much does he weight (in kg if you know) and how tall is he (in cm if you know)? :) He looks so small, yet manages to squat that much! sick
@MetalDiffa Fedosienko competes in the -52 and -56kg classes, and I would guess that he was pretty close to 56kg when he did 290. I don't know how tall he is, but I would guess somewhere around 150cm. This is based on the rackposition in the squat.
I liked your video but... some thing i didn't quite so...
For example you did categorise lifters into sq, dl and bp BUT you didn't categorise them in raw lifters and equiped (which makes raw lifts lesser in comparison). There are some great raw lifters who didn't made a cameo in your video,.
@konjovi2 Thanks for the feedback, konjovi2. I do agree with the things you write, and I actually thought of making two videos. One with equipped lifters, and one with rawlifters. The resultat, however, is this...
@konjovi2 oh god! seriously?? "I love the video but I really think you should have cross-categorised alphabetically, raw/geared, by bodyweight and colour of soft suit, then I could have given it my seal of approval"
i am 18 and i want to do powerlifting and my weight is 91kg what weight group would i be put into

Great video! Thank You!
My opinion though that they ruined the true bench press with the shirts!
They should not call Raw Bench, it should be called Bench Press! And the bench with shirt should be called Assisted Bench 1,2 or 3 ply!! Period.
