Aikikai seem to survive on pushing people out sometimes but at what cost ?
Had Tohei stayed in the Aikido world of Aikikai, Akido and Aikikai would have been healthier and much more rooted in Ueshiba sensei's ways than it is today.
Aikikai today seems diluted with (almost) only a bloodline to claim.
It was a true and huge loss for Aikidoka and their art when Tohei was lost...
@Peekingduck "With(almost) only a bloodline to claim",exactly !shin shin toitsu aikido and even yoshinkan aikido are more efficient than akikai aikido(in my view).
Koichi Tohei has been one of the greatest masters of aikido. The problem is that, since he was endowed with a uniquely creative character, his understanding of the Art transcended into realms that were unintelligible for those who intended to always keep close to the core tradition of Aikido...In any case, Tohei was an outstanding personality and an outstanding master of the Art of Peace. No doubt that he also merits infinite respect for the development of a new branch in the Aiki-tree....
Tohei is cool, but the leap at 1.08 from willing acting students is beyond absurd

I attended a couple of his classes in San Francisco and Sacramento, Calif back in 1970.
I still have his Aikido book The Arts of Self Defense which he signed for me.

Tohei Sensei, great master of Ki Aikido, has passed away leaving us the legacy of living Aikido.
